Welcome to raising extreme athletes uncensored. This is your reality. Check in home for uncensored, trusted advice and stories from the Trail Blazers who came before us because it takes a strategic village to raise an extreme pro athlete. This is your village today we're going to be talking about something really hardcore. Are you ready? Your kid does not have to make up for your lack of success. Yeah, that's right. That burden is too much. Remove it from them right now. That's not their responsibility. I'm Marina, your host, mother of two aspiring rock climbers and wife to an extreme athlete.
Let's talk about this really important topic, because it's enough. I see it too often and it's got to stop. So let's get something straight from the very beginning. I'm going to repeat it. Your kid does not have to make up for your lack of success. We don't care what you did or didn't achieve. That has nothing to do with your kid. I can't even tell you the amount of times I hear parents talk shit.
Like I could have been this, I could have been that. Ah, who cares? Ok? I could have done this. I could have done that. What does that even mean? Or I wish I did this. I wish I did that. Living in the land of regrets is not going to make your kid makeup for your own lack of success. Ok, and then we see, and this is common and I know you've seen it. You see these parents book that put that lack of success and doing it and putting it into their own kids in a really bad way.
Look, here's my thing. Everything I ever did before my first son. That was my other life, right? Everything, whatever regret I've done, whatever success I've done, it ends there. Because it brought me to my greatest success, which is having my first son. So it erased everything I did before that, right? Whatever the reason, because it brought me to him now, if he wants to start his own journey, it has nothing to do with my last journey, right? It has nothing to do with my achievements and my failures; anything yes, I could, certainly.
Work with teaching him some mistakes that I've made, but I'll never put my own lack of not being what I thought I would want to be and putting it, you know, put pushing him on it. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen, you know, they call these soccer moms soccer dads. I've seen it in so many sports, like because of their own lack of not doing, not achieving that they put it on their kid and it destroys. Everything destroys the relationship. It destroys the kids interest in that sport, it destroys the parents and it destroys the kids mind.
The kid is not responsible for your lack of success. Get over it. That shit has got to end now. Now, if you're actually really serious about helping your kid, you're gonna start working on ways to make it happen rather than put your own inefficiencies into them. It's got to stop, all right, guys, it's got to stop. And when you see it happening with other parents, you could intervene just the same. I do alright? I'm Marina, your host for today. I want to hear your story. I want to hear what you think of this.
