Why Kids Still Think Small
SPEAKER_00Thinking big. I know this is such a trendy thing to say. It's such a popular wording and all that other fun stuff. However, the reality is whenever we tell our kids to think big, the sky is the limit. They still think small. And why is that? So today that's what I want to discuss. Because it's amazing how kids don't understand the concept of thinking big. And once they can open their minds to think big, big things start to happen. I'm Marina, your host, the mother of two aspiring rock climbers and wife to an extreme athlete. And thinking big is an exercise that we try to do with our kids quite often. And we don't only do it as an oh think big and write big things. There's many different ways of doing this exercise. For instance, um, there's a way to be able to do like your ideal day or your ideal life. And a lot of kids, they simply cannot see past what is happening right now. Like they say that they want to be sponsored, they say they want to hit the Olympics, but when it's time to actually sit down and write it, they are so caught up in what's happening right now that they are unable to project really big into the future. It's almost as though they are scared of going there. And I get it, it's a scary thing. But you need to, this is an exercise that you need to practice with your kids over and over again because they have this story in their head to keep them thinking small, right? For whatever reason, it's all about stories, it's all about what our mind is telling us, right? There's very few people that actually have the capability of thinking big from a young age, and great, you know, but not all of them do that. And it's okay. Our kids don't need to, you know, be judged or criticized for that. But what we do need to do is work on them starting to think big, to see big possibilities. Because when they start to see those things, visualize those things. And I have an entire podcast all about visualization because visualization is the core of mental training. So please go and listen to it and apply that. But it's great to begin with the writing process. So thinking big, like I said, is an is an exercise that we do. And what I like to do is sit with my kids and write this out. What do you want? What is the greatest thing that you want? Imagine zero bars, like zero limits. Just go crazy, write it down. And I cannot tell you the how much my kids have struggled to go big, to write big in the beginning. And with time, and also with me being able to help them and talk them, and like just start throwing really big, outrageous, hairy goals or hairy like possibilities out there, they start to feel less of that fear of thinking big, and it's amazing how our kids hold themselves back. It's amazing. So, guys, this is a great exercise to do, not only for you and your kids, but for yourselves as well. You can certainly think big for your own personal selves, for your kids' careers, because it's nothing, it's nothing wrong with thinking big and creating these stories, right? Would you rather think really small and little minimal, like really crappy ass goals or crappy ass achievements versus humongous achievements? We're still doing the same amount of thinking. It's still not, it hasn't been realized yet. It's not in fruition. So we have the possibility to just go bonkers and think so big and just have fun with being big, right? Everything huge, everything weird and crazy at one point was thought out, right? The smartphone was a complete like it was something that nobody could have even imagined until somebody thought it out, thought big, wrote it down, and started going in that direction because they weren't scared to think big. This could be the same for your child. So just have fun. This is a fun activity, but you need to do it consistently until you break through that barrier of thinking small and going completely crazy and outrageously big. The more outrageously big it is, exaggerated big, the more your child can start to kind of feel bigger and go for those bigger goals. All right. And that really is an activity of writing. It's yes, you could certainly do it as an oral activity, but I don't recommend it. I recommend it to be both. If anything, both is even more of a powerful activity to do. So I don't know if you guys have ever done this with your kids. I'd love to hear which activities you guys are doing with your kids to open up their minds, to open up their possibilities, to show them their potential or just the potential of anything, right? I'd love to hear your feedback on that. And also please go and sign up.
