Raising Pro Athletes
Your kid wants to be a pro athlete. Now what?
Behind every pro athlete is a parent who believed first, who showed up, adapted, and refused to quit. Nobody talks about them. Until now.
Raising Pro Athletes decodes what the parents of today's top athletes actually did.
Host Marina Kuperman Villatoro moved her family across the world for her son's rock climbing career and learned the hard truth: the parent is the hidden variable.
Richard Williams drove Serena and Venus to cracked Compton courts at 5 AM, filmed training videos, and mailed them to coaches who laughed. Everyone called him crazy.
We know how that story ended.
Real talk. No playbook. Just parents figuring it out, one episode at a time.
It takes a Strategic Village to Raise an Athlete. This is your village.

Mental Toughness Exercise: Visualization
SPEAKER_00Mental toughness exercise number one. Visualization. Are you guys ready for this? Because it's so fun and it's doable. And once your child understands how to do it, I guarantee they will actually want to do it without you might not even be able to tell you that they want to do it. That's how cool this is. So, what is visualization? Visualization is something that we've been hearing quite a lot about, especially Michael Phelps, who is probably one of the most successful athletes out there. And he is constantly saying that visual without visualization, he would not get to where he has gotten to today. So visualization is basically you are literally visualizing what you want the outcome to be. And it could be you could have many forms of visualizations, right? And as a matter of fact, I actually recommend to do several if necessary, sometimes just the one, maybe right before competition, visualizing whatever that outcome is, being podium, getting to the finals, simply having fun at the visual at the competition. Whatever it is that your child is necessary needing and is able to visualize properly, that's where it begins, right? Visualizations. You could also have visualizations for longer-term goals, like being a sponsored athlete, being, you know, getting rock climbing trips that are fully paid for, whatever your child's sport is, or whatever that long term. And we're going to talk about the specific specificness of it, I guess if that's a word, is through the goal setting, right? Which is so so important. And that's the next one that we're going to be talking about. And again, everything we talk about is kind of interlaced and you put them together. So visualization, also what I will recommend to do after we meditate. And again, meditation is number three. So please go listen to that particular episode as well. Understanding meditation and how we it all works together. So to be to visualize, it is really important to first of all visualize as if though it's happening right now. It cannot be something that's going to happen because that's all that's ever going to be. Again, for kids, it needs to be a little bit more that they could align themselves with and that they could understand. But you could also, what I recommend is discussing with them what they want to visualize so that you are able to tweak and help them being able to visualize it a little bit better. So now we're going to talk about goal setting. So go to the next one. Goal setting. That's the number two mental uh toughness exercise. And that you cannot do a proper visualization without the proper goal setting. I'm Marina, your host, mother of two aspiring rock climbers, wife to an extreme athlete, and this takes a village. And I would love to know what you guys are doing. Are you doing visualizations? How is that working for you guys? So please share. That's what it's all about. I want to get the conversation going. There is no right or wrong at all. If you enjoyed this episode, please leave me a review. Please share it with your friends. Like, subscribe, do all that cool stuff, and let's talk soon.
