Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Truman Charities podcast. I am Jeannie Truman, your host. If you don't know already, truman Charities is a 100% volunteer-based organization that has raised close to $2 million for various different charities over the past 14 years. Today, we are doing our 2023 Recap, since it is 2024. And if you like this podcast, this would be a huge favor for me. It really does make a big difference of rating and reviewing this podcast, so please go into your Apple app, scroll down, hit the five star review and then write a review on, honestly, just a couple sentences, on maybe your favorite podcast that you've listened to. What's your favorite organization that you've heard about so far? I would love to hear your feedback. So, happy new year to everybody. We want to go over the best year yet that we have had and then also tell you a little bit about what we have going on for 2024. So you can mark your calendars All right. So last year we had our best year. We raised a total of $248,375 last year and remember, like I said, 100% volunteer-based, so 100% of the donations made go directly to the charity that we are helping. So last year we had a, we have a couple different parties, we have larger events and then we also have a couple smaller events that are family fun events. So we had a large event for kind and we had a kids family event for Chad, test defeat DIPG big event for strongest hearts. We also had a family fun event for just trying it. We had our annual Halloween party for Main Street and then we did a little fundraiser for my birthday for napkin network as well. So I cannot believe how much we were able to raise. We've never raised that much in one year, so we're really excited about that. But I want everybody to know that we could not do this at all without our extremely generous sponsors. So I went through throughout the year and I found out how much our sponsors have helped throughout the year, and our sponsors have spent $125,000. Our sponsors are the reason that we've been able to raise $125,000 out of that $248,375. So they are a big deal when it comes to our events and we could not do this without them. So I want you to remember, of course, that when you think about doing business, look at our sponsors, because they are helping the community. Here are some of our top sponsors. I can't thank everybody, but we went over the sponsors that we had throughout the year and we got our top sponsors. So we have the Glickfield Family Foundation, truman Hall family, the Ursula family, Intel Shift, lido Club, cyrus One, julie and Bruce Hunter, the Shownoff Turkey Farm, joe Chen, scottie Zvodka, sassy Agencies and Rob Mercer with First Home Mortgage. So thank you guys so much for our top sponsors here that have helped so much throughout the entire year.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about a little bit about what we have to look forward to in 2024. Trumentary needs to take a little bit of a break. Let everybody kind of get through the holidays. Saw the craziness with kids and grandkids and just family in general. We take off December in January, so we start back off. We have our Bethesda's Best Happy Hour.

Speaker 1:

Now this is not one of our large events that we have. It's not charitably inclined. It is just a really fun happy hour that we do once a month at Tommy Joe's. We're just getting good people in the community together and getting to know one another and see how we can help each other. So we have one of those, usually like once a month. If we have an event, we skip it, so then it's the following month. So out of the 12 months we probably maybe have like seven, seven or eight, something like that.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so our first one, our first Bethesda's Best Happy Hour, will be on February 15th, so make sure to hit your calendar for that. And then our first event we're going to be benefiting so what else? In their after school programs in the DC area. This is really near and dear to me. It's a little bit different than our typical event. I've been working on a book for a little over a year now. It's about the importance of fathers in a child's life, and so over the past year I've been conducting interviews with people of all different walks of life and grabbing research and statistics and putting together a really great book show the importance of a father in a child's life. So it'll be a book launch and, of course, all of the profits from this book will be going directly to charity. Right now will be for so what else? So it's kind of like a book launch and a charity event all in all in one. I'm really excited about that, a little bit nervous that it'll be fun. We're finishing up everything right now, so that will be March 14th, please, please, mark your calendars. Of course, as I said, every single dollar raised will be going to. So what else they're after school at DC programs. April 11th we're going to have another Bethesda's Best Happy Hour, and then what we're going to do? I think the first week of May we're going to be doing a party for kind and then we are not exactly sure when our next Bethesda's Best Happy Hour is throughout the summer, but towards the end of the summer. Dominic of course does the triathlon, the kids' triathlon, for just trying it. So we're going to be doing our family fun event at probably end of August, maybe beginning mid-September, depending on kind of what. Everybody's back in school and then we have our big annual Halloween party and that'll be for interfaith works, montgomery County. So that is going to be really fun. That'll be on October 26th and after that we will be having another happy hour or another Bethesda's Best Happy Hour to kind of close out the year. So it seems like that is, you know, give or take. That's going to be our schedule for the year.

Speaker 1:

Make sure that you are on our newsletter, our list for a newsletter. I sent out a newsletter. I try not to do it more. I definitely don't send anything more than once a week, but I try to do maybe every other week, unless we're having one of our larger events, and then it's once a week. So I try to be very mindful of your inbox because I know how many emails that I get per day, so I never want to send too many. So make sure to sign up. You can go on trumentaritiescom and you can sign up there, but if you want to just email me at infoatourmajoritiescom and I'll make sure that I put you on that on that list. So again, I want to thank everybody so much for supporting us.

Speaker 1:

This podcast has been amazing.

Speaker 1:

Unfortunately, we can't help everyone, so this is kind of where I started this podcast was, so I can interview founders of different organizations that we unfortunately aren't able to put on the books yet for an event.

Speaker 1:

We do donate to everyone that we interview, as well as a thank you and for what they're doing within the community. So that's great. So I really want to thank everybody for being a part of Truman Charities and really supporting us. Without everybody you know listening in and supporting our podcast. We really want to thank everybody for supporting us. $248,375 or 2023. I cannot wait to see what we're able to do in 2024. Make sure you get on that newsletter list and I will see everybody for our event on March 14th benefiting, so what else? All right, I will talk to everybody soon.
