What To Expect At Truman Charities Family Fun Event | Ep. 147

Jamie Truman

Truman Charities, a 100% volunteer-based organization founded in 2010, has raised over $2 million through three annual charity events.

Our upcoming Family Fun event on September 7th will benefit "Just TRYAN It," a local organization supporting families with children undergoing pediatric cancer treatment.

My 9-year-old son, Dominic, has even created a team to involve his friends in the triathlon.

The Family Fun event will take place at the Knights of Columbus from 2 PM to 5 PM on September 7th. We will have the Morazzi Pizza Truck, Clayboys Shave Ice, a Moon Bounce, and an open bar.

Welcome to the Truman Charities podcast. I am Jamie Truman, your host. I am the co-founder of Truman Charities. We started back in 2010 and we're 100% volunteer-based organization. Since we started, we've raised a little over $2 million. We do that through hosting three different charity events a year for various different charities. Each year we have our annual Halloween event derby party and then we have our family fun event. This year, our family fun event is going to be benefiting Just Trying it and Just Trying it is a local organization that raises money for families that have a child in treatment for pediatric cancer. If you check out our episode 118, I spoke with the founder, molly Darby, and Molly speaks about when her son Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia, what it was like when she went into the hospital and she would see other children not being able to have their parents there with them during some of their treatments, and then, after seeing that, she decided to create the nonprofit.

Just Trying it, and Just Trying it raises money by hosting a kids triathlon each year. So the triathlon is going to be September 21st. Dominic is going to be participating in it again this year. He is going to be nine when the triathlon is. He'll be nine by then, and he's participated in this since he was six years old. He'll be nine by then and he's participated in this since he was six years old, and my stepson, who's 22, he also participated in just trying it, starting at six, and then he went up until, I believe, the last year. Either 13 or 14 years old is the last year that you can participate in it and, interesting enough, we've been friends with Molly for years, and Zach, my stepson, and Ryan, her son, went to preschool together, and so that's how my husband, jerry, met Molly. So we've been great friends with them for a very long time.

And this is a wonderful organization that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for local families. They can help pay for anything that they need electric bills, helping with the mortgage, anything that these families need so they're able to go and be with their children during this really difficult time. So we're going to be raising money by hosting our Family Fun event, which will be September 7th at the Knights of Columbus from 2 to 5 pm, and, just like we did last year, we're going to have Morazzi Pizza Truck, which is the best brick oven pizza that I've ever had. It tastes just like the pizza that you get in Italy. It's so good. We're also going to have Clayboys Shave Ice and we're also going to have a Moon Bounce open bar. It's going to be a really great time and you're going to see both of my kids and their team.

So Dominic decided last year that what he wanted to do was create a team so he could invite his friends to participate into the triathlon and they could do this together, which has really been such a wonderful, wonderful thing to watch. Watching the kids fundraise together, help plan and execute these fundraisers together has really been great. And then watching them on race day get excited, get nervous and then watching their faces afterwards, as you can see like the sense of, like real accomplishment, and it's such an incredible thing for your children to participate in. I believe I'm not sure, but I believe you can still sign up for the triathlon now. So if you are interested, go to Just Trying it and sign your child up, and if you would like to participate in our fundraiser and it's a family fun event so bring your grandkids, bring your kids or just come by yourself. You don't need to bring kids, you can bring whoever you'd like to just kind of have a great afternoon and raise money for local families in need. You can email to register. You can just email me at info at Truman charitiescom, but you can also go on to Truman charities and there's a link there to register. So I hope to see everybody on September 7th at Knights of Columbus for our Family Fun event so we can help raise money for local families who have a child in treatment for pediatric cancer.
