Welcome to the Truman Charities Podcast. I am Jamie Truman, your host. Today I want to take a moment and talk about our Halloween party that we just had on October 25th that benefited the Salute Military Golf Association. We raised$43,750. So we're very excited about that. And how your nonprofit can get involved with Truman Charities. For those of you who may be new here, Truman Charities is a hundred percent volunteer-based organization. That's right. We have no salaries, no overhead for staff, none of that. So every single dollar raised goes directly towards the charity that we are raising money for for that event. So the Salute Military Golf Association received$43,750. Jerry and I cover the cost of the event, and all of our auction items are donated. Nothing is on consignment. And that is how we are able to make sure that every single dollar goes towards the charity that we are raising money for. Since 2010, which is when we created Truman Charities, we've raised an incredible$2.5 million for local charities and their causes. Now let's talk a little bit about our recent event. It was an incredible night. As I had mentioned, we had raised$43,750 for the Salute Military Golf Association. This organization does amazing work using the game of golf to help rehabilitate our wounded veterans. If you haven't listened to our podcast episode with executive director CJ Johnson and veteran Jason David, that's episode 154. Jason David was actually at our event and said a few words about his experience within the organization. He's on the board now, and he also is a wounded vet. In episode 155, I talked to Ramon Bedelia, and he also talks about how he's been on a documentary and a lot of different news outlets talking about how golf, Salute Military Golf Association, really did save his life after he came back from Afghanistan after a severe injury. So let's talk a little bit about how we're able to raise this incredible amount of money. And we all love to have a little bit of fun during our fundraiser. So we go all out on our costumes, and our prizes are really great. So people come prepared with these amazing costumes. So our best individual costume. The prize was a two-night, three-day stay at Vasal Maners in Middleburg, which if you listen to me, you know that's my favorite place. I'm obsessed with their spa. So the winner of that was Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman and Brittany Allison and from Allison Collection completely nailed that costume. And then our best group slash couples costume. Their prize was a beach, uh beach vacation in Fenwick, Delaware. Our friends' beach house, they were so generous to donate to us. And their house is a half a block from the beach. So it is an incredible house. So it was it was tough. We had some really, really great group costumes, but it went to the Scotty's vodka flight attendants. They looked like they had stepped straight out of the 1950s, complete with Scotty's Vodka miniatures that they handed out, which was completely classic. So they did an incredible job with their costumes. And I also want to take a moment to thank our generous sponsors. Honestly, we could not do any of the work that we do without them. And here's something I like to remind everyone. You know, when you're looking to do business with a company, you choose one that gives back to the community. Those are the people who care, who invest locally, and who are helping to make a difference alongside us. So please listen to our incredible sponsors that we had. We had Aspen Real Estate Settlements, Electric Advisors, First Home Mortgage, First Washington Mortgage, Garrison, the Law Offices of Chip Limskum, Leto Civic Club of Washington, D.C., Lighthouse Insurance Service/ Forebright Bank, Lucy, PKC, LLC, Ross Residential, Sassy Agency, Select Financial Capital, Scotty's Vodka, Small Business Advisors, So What Else, The Urciola's, Tommy Joe's, Truman Wealth Management Group, One Hope, C Federal, Logan Home Group, Walker's Tap and Table, John and Maria Medina, Capital Bank, Allison Collection at Compass, the Giving Purpose Project, Urban Pace, Eric Skegum, SL England, PLLC, Schreiler, RBC, and RBC. So thanks again to everyone that has decided to be a sponsor. Again, we could not do this without you. So let's get into an email. I actually get emails and phone calls a lot about this question of how does our nonprofit get into the mix with Truman Charities? How can we be considered to be one of the beneficiaries? It's a great question. And I absolutely love when organizations reach out. So kind of let me give you the step-by-step of how it works. So, step one is that I like to do, when you reach out to me, I like to do a podcast interview with your nonprofit. I want to really understand how you're helping the community, whether it's veterans, children, families in need. We really kind of want to know your story. Step two, we look at how the donations are allocated. It's really important for us that the majority of the funds go directly towards helping the people you serve, not towards overhead and administrative costs. And finally, step three, I follow all the organizations we interview on social media once we've selected a date to interview. And this part is important. I look to see if your organization stays non-political. And kind of let me explain why. You know, we live in the DMV area, DC, Maryland, Virginia, where people can get very emotional over politics. Um, sometimes even I've seen in the past year that people have even stopped talking to friends and family over it, which honestly I think is pretty crazy. Uh, just to stop talking to someone because you disagree with them politically. So for instance, I completely uh disagree right with my sister on her political views. I mean, completely. But it's my sister. I love her. I would never let politics get in the way of our relationship. And that's how I view Truman Charities. We are not here to talk politics. We are here to help people, no matter what political party that they belong to. Our donors are amazing, some are liberal, and some are conservative. And that's what makes this community so special, is everybody is welcome as long as the goal is to make life better for others. So, yes, we have turned down a few organizations that were just a little bit too political on social media or were affiliated with a particular political party. We just want to simply focus on helping people in the community. So at the end of the day, Truman Charities, we exist to unite people around generosity, compassion, and community to everyone who has donated, volunteered, sponsored, and just, you know, help us spread the word about Truman Charities. We want to thank you. You're the reason why we've been able to raise over$2.5 million and support so many incredible causes. So if you're a nonprofit interested in partnering up with us, reach out. I'd love to learn more about what you do and how we can work together to make a difference. So thanks again, everyone.
