The Rollercoaster of Life as an Australian Sporting Icon – Kim Hughes

the dashing and ever entertaining Kim Hughes.
Kim shares his life story from growing up in country WA and his path to becoming
WA’s first ever Australian Cricket Captain, at the age of just 24.
He discusses some of the biggest moments in Australian cricket including a few of
his phenomenal innings, as well as moments of great despair – such as the
terrible treatment he received from team mates when they returned from World
Series cricket, and the lack of support he received from cricket authorities.
Ever humourous, but always brutally honest - we hear about how Kim became
the youngest player to make the WA cricket squad at just 15 years of age, to then
breaking his back as a 18 year old and how he recovered to become one of WA’s
and Australia’s brightest cricket stars.
We delve into how he felt facing the fearsome West Indies pace attack for most
of his test career, when they were in their prime, and ponder how he would go in
modern cricket, with the big bats; small boundaries and protective gear.
Kim is also brutally honest about his personal challenges and the steps he needed
to take to get on top of one of his biggest life battles – his addiction to alcohol – a
battle that he is proudly winning.
