Week #52 - 2-Minute Devotional w/ Omar Calvillo
As we close out 2025, the apostle Paul gives us the right posture for moving forward, not regret, not complacency, but purposeful pursuit.
In this final Two Minute Devotional of the year, Omar Calvillo unpacks Philippians 3:12–14 and reminds us that spiritual maturity doesn’t mean we’ve arrived - it means we keep pressing forward. Paul’s words challenge us to let go of both past failures and past victories, fix our eyes on Christ, and pursue faithfulness over comfort, recognition, or results.
This devotional speaks directly to our lives in ministry, our families, and our personal walk with God as we step into 2026. Wherever you find yourself today, be encouraged: the same Jesus who took hold of you is still leading you forward.
Let’s press on - together. In Jesus' Name.

This is Omar Calvillo and welcome to the Wrong to Strong Two Minute Devotional Family. As we come to the end of 2025, it's natural to look back. We think about what went right, what went wrong, what we started, what we finished, and what we wish we would've done differently. But before we dwell on the past or rush into the future. The Apostle Paul gives us the right posture for moving forward. Let's begin by reading God's word together. Philippians three, 12 through 14. Not that I have already obtained all this or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward In Christ Jesus. Paul begins with humility. He says plainly that he has not arrived. This is the Apostle Paul speaking. Church planter, theologian, missionary. Yet he refuses to pretend he's finished growing. That alone teaches us something important. Spiritual maturity does not mean you stop pressing forward. It means you press forward with great clarity. Paul reminds us that Christ Jesus took hold of him first. Our pursuit of God is always a response to God's grace towards us. We don't run to earn salvation. We run because we've already been rescued. This truth is echoed in one Corinthians 9 24 where Paul says, run in such a way as to get the price. The Christian life is not passive. It requires intention, discipline, and focus. Then Paul says something powerful, one thing I do, he refuses to be distracted by the past. Forgetting what is behind does not mean denying past pain or success. It means refusing to let yesterday define today. Isaiah 43:18-19 reinforces this when God says, forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing. God honors the past, but he works in the present and leads us into the future. Paul finishes by saying he presses towards the goal. The goal is not comfort, recognition, or numbers. The goal is the upward call of God in Christ Jesus becoming more like him and finishing the race faithfully for ministry, we move forward without pretending we've arrived. God is not calling us to maintain momentum from yesterday, but to remain faithful today. Past Fruit is a testimony, not a resting place. We press on by staying obedient, teachable, and dependent on Christ. Not chasing results, but pursuing faithfulness. Galatians six verse nine reminds us, let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Ministry requires perseverance, not perfection. For our family. Pressing forward means refusing to let past failures, arguments, or seasons define what God can still do. Healing, growth and restoration are ongoing processes. We commit to loving better, listening better, and leading with grace, knowing that God is still working in our homes. Psalm 127, verse one says, Unless the LORD builds the house, the builder's labor in vain." We press on together trusting God with our families, For individuals. Some of us are stuck because we're either trapped by regret or living off yesterday's victories. Paul challenges us to release both. You are not who you used to be and you're not yet who God is shaping you to become. Growth requires movement. Hebrews 12, one through two calls us to Run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Fixing our eyes on Jesus." Forward motion begins when our focus stays on him. As we close out 2025, let this be our declaration. We haven't arrived and we are not quitting! The same Jesus who took hold of us is still leading us forward. So we press on, in our faith, in our families, in our ministry, and we step into 2026 with our eyes on Christ and our hearts fully committed to the call. Have a blessed and happy new year. My name is Omar Calvillo and I've gone from wrong to strong.
