Hello, brothers and sisters. This is Cisco Terrazas coming to you from another From Wrong to Strong devotional. I'd like us to begin with Galatians 1:10. "For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ." One of the greatest struggles many believers face is the desires for approval from others. We naturally want to be accepted, appreciated, and understood. While there's nothing wrong with loving and serving people, a problem arises when their opinions begin to carry more weight than God's truth. Paul confronts this issue directly in Galatians 1:10, reminding us that a servant of Christ cannot make pleasing people their highest priority. The reality is following Jesus will not always earn the approval of others. There will be times when standing for a biblical truth may bring criticism, rejection, or misunderstanding. Jesus himself warned his followers in John 15:18, "If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you." Our calling is not to confront to the expectations of the world, but to faithfully follow Christ wherever he leads When we become consumed with people's opinions, we often compromise our convictions. We remain silent when God calls us to speak or follow the crowd when God calls us to stand apart. Proverbs 29:25 reminds us, The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe." Seeking the approval of others can become a trap that hinders our obedience to God. Jesus provides the perfect example. Throughout his ministry, he spoke truth with love, even when it offended religious leaders, challenged cultural norms, or caused many to walk away. His focus was always on fulfilling the Father's will. He declared in John 6:38, For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent me." As believers, our goal should be the same. We are called to love people, serve people, and pray for people, but never at the expense of obedience to God. When faced with a choice between pleasing people or pleasing the Lord, the scripture is clear about where our allegiance belongs. As Peter boldly stated in Acts 5:29, "We ought to obey God rather than men." At the end of our lives, we will not stand before people to give an account of our faithfulness. We will stand before God. Therefore, let us live each day seeking His approval above all else, trusting that his opinion is the one that matters most. Ask the Lord to reveal any people-pleasing tendencies in your heart. Commit to making decisions based on biblical truth rather than the approval or acceptance of others. Seek to honor Christ in your words, actions, and convictions even when it is difficult. Put it like this. If someone offended your earthly mother or father, how would you react? Would you be willing to fight or defend them, or would you walk away from the situation? I'm sure most of you would be willing to go all out and defend them since you love them with all your heart. But do you see it any differently when someone from your group is calling out your heavenly Father and mentions blasphemous things about him? Would you defend the heavenly Father? Do you love him enough to stand boldly to protect the gospel? How much are you willing to lose in your personal life if you're willing to protect all that is of God?
