And after we won those two games against Tulsa and Yukon, we didn't win another game all season. We basically banked seven wins and ran that all the way to the bowl game. When we lost to Marshall at the Bad Boy Mower's Bowl I didn't even, I thought that was a joke, but it was actually the name of the bowl game.
Track 1:What we wouldn't give to go to the Bad Boy Mowers bowl again. Well, I guess that one doesn't exist anymore, but a bowl game again,

I, you know what else I really liked about the traditions and everything was our team going over at the end of the game. Two for the, I don't know if it's the naval alma mater or what, but it was good that they were all prepped and knew to do that. Shows good coaching there as well.

You have to watch the coach, but you also have to watch the game'cause you don't wanna get tackled, get run into, listen to that first episode. If you wanna hear a story about how Bobby got tackled. not watching the game, but it's tough. And then you're tripping over the court and it gets all tangled. And if a coach goes running, so any school that's still doing it, hats off to'em.'cause that, that, that sucks.
Track 1:But also up your equipment manager budget if you're still carrying cord over there. The only guys I see till carrying cord are like the camera guys. We were watching that a little bit at the Navy game of,

Track 1:Remember when we were watching that European soccer match pre-game, we learned that you can also tie out there. So

But red, there's two options and you got it wrong. Yeah, but you know, didn't get it wrong. I think they're listening to our pod because we saw what we wanted to from U S F for the most part.
Track 1:Yeah, again we took what the defense was giving us on offense. We were hitting those underneath throws getting byman rhythm. We liked to see the offense the run game get a little bit better on offense. But it did what it had to do. We avoided the backbreaking mistake. We were able to respond when we made mistakes and those types of things. Never gave the game away, even though it sure felt like it at the beginning.
pookah_1_10-03-2023_194116:Yeah. I mean it was, I guess we'll talk about it in a second, but that was a tough spot. The other thing I saw from the offense is I think the players are listening because we called out, well, Jennings wasn't playing, but
Track 1:RJ Perry. Yeah, Perry had a great game. Yeah.

Track 1:defense I think was pretty great too. I mean, we stopped the run. We got navy behind the sticks. We had five, three and outs. So that's a way to get out off the field. I mean, we still got killed in time of possessions'cause that's the way it works with Navy.

Track 1:We asked for them to be disciplined. Disciplined in the passing game. We kinda got a little lucky there. Only gave up the one shot play touchdown, but there were like two or three where their quarterback just missed a wide open dude.

But we avoided, again, them just running wild and running free. We'd make a tackle, make'em work for it, a couple extra plays here and there.

Track 1:First half defense got stops. We overcame early mistakes. I mean, all of their scores were on short fields. It was driving K nuts. He was ready to murder someone. I mean, it was 14 nothing before our of offense did even run five plays. But we settled down.

Track 1:We came back, we scored twice. Long touchdown drives. We converted two fourth downs on one of those touchdown drives. So you can't really say, oh, we, we need to stop going forward on fourth down. You know, it led to seven points there, even though it led to seven the other way earlier. I mean,

pookah_1_10-03-2023_194116:But I mean, on the other side of that, it gave this team an opportunity to respond to adversity. Can you do it? Can you get punched in the mouth and come back?
Track 1:And I think there's a little bit of intention to that too. I think you want to see early on, what's my team got today? Are they here to play? Are they, you know, and maybe you're not feeling it, maybe you want to give them something to respond to and punch'em in the mouth and say, these guys need a wake up call out here too.

We knew he was gonna be in cover four, did some deep crossing a little post behind it, and then intentionally flew the through the wheel inside where the The safety had overplayed it and then fell down when he tried to adjust to it, and Atkins was off to the races showing off

Track 1:Not to hate on him too much, but you know how they usually, like on big plays like that, they're like, oh, he reached a top speed of 24 miles per hour. If you're tired, you kill. Well, Atkins top speed was under sub 20 Hey, no one caught'em though. That's the

Track 1:After that we got a big stop. Looked like maybe we'd start getting some momentum, but we fumbled it right back to them. Be probably Bebe's worst play of the game. He got caught with a striped sack. I mean, you didn't have much time, but it was just a. A good defensive play and then they managed to bring it back. So it was 20. But the important thing, when they did score on that, we had that all important dropped snap on the extra point. So it's, we went from a 21, 21 game to half to 2320

pookah_1_10-03-2023_194116:That sucks. Take that in the half. You think you're good, you're going in Tide, and then you make some sort of mistake like that to where you're just like, damn, a little thing. There's a little bit of luck

Track 1:Yeah, we're, and we're gonna have to talk about that a little bit'cause we're all excited about a big win here. But I'm gonna break down how maybe it's a little closer than we really think about. I mean, we talk about a two score win, but when you add up, Three points swing there. They had another three points on a missed field goal. The returned fumble for a touchdown. That's another seven points, so that's 13 points directly gifted to us there. So now we talking about a one point game. Now I know we gave them some points too with our turnovers, but they at least had to go down and score on those. They just directly gave us 13 points
pookah_1_10-03-2023_194116:that's a difference in skill because It takes some athletic ability to scoop and score.
Track 1:Hey, and I mean, coach Go talked about it too, of, you know, a lot of people say, oh, the ball bounced your way today, but it's all about creating the opportunity for the ball to bounce your way. If Tremmel Logan is not in the right position, he doesn't even see that ball squirt out behind the line and he's off looking, tackling a fullback somewhere, and instead of scooping and scoring, you know, or if we don't make a tackle on the third down to even get it to fourth and one, the opportunity for that. Play never even happens. So you do create those opportunities For sure.

Track 1:Now, I will say on the the dropped snap return for two points, we created that by allowing a touchdown. So that one's a little, we just have to thank the football gods for I think

Track 1:So let's get to the second half. We played shutdown defense offense. Did enough to put it away. It was Navy came out, made it 2323 with a field goal. Very next drive. We take it down, we get the TD to go ahead. This is the nice uh, throw to Michael Brown. Stevens on the third down in the corner of the end zone. Great placement to throw. Great catch. Touchdown. I really loved that play'cause that was right down in our end of the field. Byron Brown was fired up. He had 500 family members there. He was getting'em all going, so

Track 1:it was awesome. And then the very next drive, we get that fumble return. Touchdown, just a gift. Now we're up 37, 23. All momentum's going our way. Maybe we can close it out. Ugh. We get the ball, we get a stop, and we fumble it right back to him. First play we got back. We, it was that Western wolf fumble. They missed a field goal on that drive. And then we got another TD to break it open. So three score at that point. And we were hoping maybe we could just party and relax, but then we just give up the dumb touchdown to Navy so fast. We're like, we're up, we're we were celebrating. We're like, we're up three scores on Navy. A team who doesn't pass the ball with, I don't know how many minutes left. We were in the fourth quarter somewhere

Track 1:just enjoy this and first play Navy just boom, smokes us. So dumb. But then we did get the closeout drive. We got the ball back. We got helped by roughing of the punter. But hey we made'em. Pay for it. Capitalize on it. Run game. Finally was good enough on that last drive. Look, man, your voice is shit. If you're gonna try and interrupt me, you gotta raise a finger or something'cause people aren't gonna hear you over there.

This is the difference maker because he coaches, well, he recruits decently, right? He, got some great

The X's and O's are coming together it looks like too. maybe this is some culture, but I think it's also player development is even a lot of guys who aren't transfers, guys who were here last year but weren't necessarily playing or starting, I don't know if it's just getting confidence and culture change or if it's actually developing their technique and their skillset, but we've got a lot of guys who are on this football team who didn't do Jack last year, who are every down starters for us now. he's doing it across the board. If we wanna talk about the X's and O's a little bit more. the passing offense we're adjusting to what they were getting. You know, we Navy plays a pretty simple defense, or at least they did against us because I think they were kind of challenging us and weren't gonna give up the deep ball to us, even though they did eventually. we were hitting those underneath routes, hitting those hitches confidently and just adjusting to what they were giving to us. So I think that'll change each week.'cause I don't think other defenses are gonna play us the exact same way, but, I like that we're able to take advantage of that. The rushing offense I wasn't as thrilled about. I really felt like we struggled a little bit there, but again, that's just the way they were lined up and playing us. A lot of, I think, I don't know if it was a conscious effort not to use Byron Brown in the running game'cause he didn't really. Getting his legs in this week. I think some of that was him trying to stand in the pocket and make things work there. But also I think some of it was the way Navy was playing us. They seemed to have a guy on pretty much every read option play who was assigned to bb. so I think that negated some of it.

Track 1:that's the nice thing about being on offense is when the defense does something like that, you hit'em with something else and you just gotta make those adjustments and you have the advantage when if they're gonna take a guy essentially out of the play, then that's one less guy who's in coverage or rushing you, whatever.

Track 1:On the defensive side, I think we passed the test against Navy. Yeah, we gave up 240 yards or something. But They're gonna get their yards. They're navy, they do this for a living. But you know, we tackled, well, we stayed pretty disciplined. We gave up a couple runs, but like I said, all of their scoring drives were on short fields. We didn't let them just take the ball, hold it for 15 minutes and drive 80 yards on us,
