Carrying Cord: A USF Football Pod

Biff's Whiff (UNCC Recap)

Pookah and Red Season 2 Episode 26

Send us whatever is on your mind.

The Bulls are going Bowling! A big thanks to Biff Poggi who made it all possible with his incredible Jeff Scott-esque coaching decisions. But a real congratulations to this team and the fans! Come on in and celebrate with the guys.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Ooh. I love the sound of that. Welcome to Caring Cord, the official, unofficial podcast for a bowl eligible football team.

Track 1:

Just as I expected all along.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

you. You sure had the faith thread. Never in doubt.

Track 1:

Never.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Never. USF is quickly becoming the only Tampa sports team worth watching. I mean, the bolts without Fazzy not doing

Track 1:

He's back, you idiot.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, but still they haven't been doing that. Great. The Bucks

Track 1:

they just set a record for most goals, on least amount of shots ever or something on his return. So

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, they suck. They were never in doubt. Kind of just like this game, right? There were never any questioning moments where we thought, oh my God, we might actually not win this one.

Track 1:

I never had any doubts because I'm a man of faith and belief beyond all reason. there were a lot of people around me who were very scared to, to start this game, that's for sure.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it was ugly starting out. That's the tough part about this USF team is like the starts, you never know what you're gonna get. It's like a Forest Gump esque box of chocolates, but then also, even when the game is in hand, it never actually feels like you're winning. Maybe that's just me, but there was never a moment in this game, even at the end where I was like, we got this.

Track 1:

Normally, I'm with you. I felt pretty good for most of the fourth quarter on this one. I was able to relax

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

No,

Track 1:

so.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I just, I maybe I'm too tough on the team, but there were definitely even like in the fourth quarter where there are moments where it's like, what are we doing? What are doing? Trying to give him game back and we're up. 16 scores

Track 1:

You were not a fan of taking Byron Brown out. Got it.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I actually thought that was great. I just don't know why we didn't let Archie cook

Track 1:

Right. No, I agree with you there. let's, we'll just fast forward to the end here.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

And that's the pod ladies. Gentlemen, thanks for tuning in. Glad you're with us.

Track 1:

let Archie cook

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Let Archie Cook Brown got his and I'm mad that we didn't get Atkins' his thing. We'd just get bar his thing and his record and let Atkins just, I don't know. Speaking of Atkins and I'm sure we'll talk about this, but if there's one thing that dude needs to figure out with his game, it's those punts.'cause he's catching some scary ass punts. There was the one where he like sidearm it and I was like, oh my God. That's going right through

Track 1:

we could just find another punt returner on a team of a hundred guys and let that guy focus on doing what he does offensively. I don't know.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Matt Hill, baby.

Track 1:

explosive out there on the punt return. So,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

No. Matt Hill almost had one. He's cooking, but I mean, yeah, they came out and you could tell this was their leave everything on the field game. They started with, they had that touchdown. Then they tried to get us with that onside kick. They

Track 1:

worst on sidekick I've ever seen

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

was Ben

Track 1:

by the way.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

It

Track 1:

pretty sure that thing landed in the first row of the stands,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. It was bad. And then like at one point Biff was having no more of this shit. He took the hoodie off, he got the sleeveless arms and man crushed 22 Keytones and said, I'm gonna win me a football game.

Track 1:

The team certainly embodied their coach, that's for sure. and I guess maybe that's a thing that's been going on all season of, they're just a chippy, scrappy fight team. Like, just like him of, because Goli alluded to something on the post-game, pressor of asked about that and he kind of said, yeah, you can see it on film. So I guess they were kind of expecting it going in that, all of that extracurricular type stuff. But hey, that's what you gotta do. If you're the worst team. Maybe Jeff Scott could have done some of that of motivating his team and,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

he also, Biff said some stuff, I was watching some sideline interview with him and he essentially was talking about like, there's nothing more to this game than tackling and blocking. Like, I don't care what guys are saying to you. I don't care what, what's happening out there. Get out and block and tackle. So I don't know if that, like, that's just what he says. And then he gets in there and he is like, punch those motherfuckers in. But I mean he definitely is that guy that when stuff goes wild at the trailer park family reunion, he's sitting back instigating it. Like, I mean, I'm trying to stay outta this, but I heard Rhonda said, you're a horrible father. just like walk away. Go ahead Biff. Handle the business.

Track 1:

Well, whatever he was thinking and trying to start over there, I don't think he realized that if he just let USF sit back, that we'd make the mistakes for him instead of beating us to the punch and going for it on fourth down from his own 10 yard line over there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean he really, he was like, we've got nothing left. I've got nothing left. That is a broken man. He came from what Jesuit High School of the North and First College coaching gig, whatever. Who cares? We handled our business. we got our shit taken care of.

Track 1:

Yeah. You can't control who you play. You go out, win the game, took care of senior night,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

honored a bunch of guys. Crowd was actually pretty good. I mean, nothing amazing. It was, took some while trickling in, but it wasn't, temple levels bad or anything like that. night games, so you get the lights going and all that kind of stuff. It was all fun, all around. A lot of recruits in the stands. were on the field. Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

yeah. That's awesome.

Track 1:

the most important thing, look, we got the win and you gotta, we're podcasts, we're doing this for our own entertainment mainly, but some of y'all's entertainment as well.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

what are we doing this for?

Track 1:

No one knows we made a deal with the devil. That is Kay. I don't know.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Fucking got us, man.

Track 1:

but so yeah, we're gonna critique some shit still, but for the most part, just enjoy the wind. We're going bowling baby. it's nice.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

How could you, I mean, that's the thing. You can appreciate the team and you can really like enjoy the win and notice things that need to improve for next season. But that's the thing, we're at a spot where you can improve, right? Like where, okay, we, we have some good stuff on paper that are, we figured out kind of some of the talent we already have. We've figured out a scheme that works, maybe not so much on defense, but that could just be a talent gap. Now we know what we need to do. Let's go bowling. let's play for something, let's make this a wild ass turnaround. And then next season, let's just start recruiting. Let's start filling those gaps.

Track 1:

It is not even next season, man. I think Transfer portal opens up, next week. So

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

There it is, which I nobody leave. And if anyone wants to come back, we'll let you return hat in hand. But you have to apologize to the fan base. I'm looking at you.

Track 1:

not sure.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Guys that maybe went to other

Track 1:

Jimmy

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

aren't going bowling right now. I'll forgive you if you want to come back to a program. That's not a shit show.

Track 1:

are we not a shit show. I think, I don't know about all that, but.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

we're not a Colorado shit show. That's for sure. Yeah,

Track 1:

But let's talk about this game. all three of us, you, me and Kay included, called this one correctly covered one pretty easily, and it was very, I know you said you didn't relax, but for me it was nice to see, you know, after the first quarter, the team come out and do what they're supposed to do and take care of it.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

It was good. I mean, it was, I kind of joke being AUSF fan, you like really never know what's gonna happen, but it was good to so handily. Beat them towards the end of that game. Like, get into our rhythm, you know, get the yips out or whatever was going on, and just get into it and do what we were supposed to do. We were who we said we were.

Track 1:

you know, you were 11 and one on the season with your projections. I mean, that was

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Gosh, man, a football genius. How did I pick it like that?

Track 1:

If only you could predict USF to win every time and still go 11 and one. That'd be

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

still go 11 and one, but I'm sorry. That's not the way this works. I predicted the losses. The only one I missed was one. We should have won.

Track 1:

I don't know about Should've won. You predicted to win?

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

We should have won it.

Track 1:

We'd, look back on it and we definitely shouldn't have lost the way we lost in that game. That's probably FAU and UAB or kind of some of our regrets, especially as you look at the final standings and see where they finished below us in the conference and everything.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. The damn children's Harbor game. But really it's FAU that gets me UABI can, I can accept FAU. there are three Florida teams that are not bull eligible. Do you know who they are?

Track 1:

FAU Florida

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yep.

Track 1:

and Miami.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Nope. F-I-U-F-A-U-F-I-U and Florida. So there's a new big foreign town, baby. U-S-F-F-S-U-U-C-F. Miami. Let's do this.

Track 1:

The last time we tried this, it did not go well, but

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

We're back baby. We're so back. We're fifth in the conference.

Track 1:

fifth in the conference and a hundred second in the nation. But that's Big four in Florida, baby.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Woo.

Track 1:

Hey, 1 0 2 is better than one 30 or wherever we were last year though,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

That's true. Although I think our defense is one of the worst in terms of giving up points. I think we're like one of the worst in the nation.

Track 1:

we definitely were before last week, so hopefully last week helped. I didn't look at the individual unit rankings, but look, defense played well, offense played well, better team won.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

it's the same thing as the week before when we were on the other side of it. UTSA handled it against us. Maybe we stick around play, have want some plays you could take back and all that kind of stuff. But, overall the result is what the result was. And we played with confidence, belief that we would win. And Byron Brown mentioned that post game when asked about changing the culture, which is kind of a telling statement, was playing each game that we believed we could actually win it. So that's pretty condemning of the previous staff of how they were motivating their team. But

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, I mean that's an unenviable position to have to be in, to try to motivate a team that's clearly worse on paper, and is like not won a game since the beginning of the season. To then come into the end of season and be like, all right guys, maybe temple is good. Maybe not but just get out there and do your best. But I mean, it's a culture. It is a culture, and. That's what I really love about Coach Go is that he's a process oriented guy and when everything else falls away, if you stick with the process, right, change comes, you can just go back to the process. It's, I think it's a great way to coach a team.

Track 1:

My favorite thing about Coach Go is he just listens to us and incorporates that into the game plan because on offense, I liked it. No, three and outs, that was my big point up until the backups running in the fourth quarter. So there was one interception in there on the second play of a drive, but that's still not a three and out, so it doesn't count, but

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

But also, if we would've let Archie Cook, maybe we would've been,

Track 1:

Right. That I didn't, I'm with you. take by arm out, but still run your offense with Archie in there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

yeah. Why? Why change anything? I mean, I think that's where there were some moments where. we didn't wanna see with the offense is not getting cute with it. Like if something's working, stick with it. And there were some moments where maybe we tried to change things up, maybe running the ball when passing the ball was working. but even still, right?

Track 1:

Yeah. the missed running back pass on the first drive in the end zone. That was a little bit too cute for me. That's an example of that. One thing I liked where we stuck with something was, I think it was, I think it was the touchdown that opened the second half for us. it's against kind of what I was saying, a little bit of don't force it deep

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Sure.

Track 1:

too much. We went deep three plays in a row and it was on, it wasn't because we were just saying, fuck it. We were targeting a guy, like the first play was incomplete and the guy was fairly good coverage. Second play, we went right back after the same guy and it was. pass interference'cause he was just gassed and tackled the wide receivers. He was trying to chase him. Third play, that guy subbed out because he was tired and so we targeted the guy who came in for him and hit. That's when we hit Jayden Alexis for that touchdown.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

And there was a beautiful ball and

Track 1:

was great and great run after a catch. yeah, for sure. biggest complaint about the offense didn't get atkins' Thousand yards.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, at the very least, why not even send a message over to Biff and be like, Hey man, it's the end. We're gonna run a go with Atkins. Just tell your guy to stop. just get him the yards, right. Just like it doesn't matter at that point, just how we didn't try to get him that. There were opportunities for it. I almost feel like we underutilized Atkins towards the middle to the end of that game. I don't know what was going on. Maybe he was just tired.

Track 1:

underutilize his arm.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well, I'll tell you what I think even the announcer was like, man, that guy could have been a quarterback. He didn't read any of the bios on any of our players. Way to go schmuck clean.

Track 1:

This just in though this just in the bowl game counts towards stats. So Ikin can still get his a thousand yards.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well, there it is, folks. There it is. You all thought it was over. Atkins is gonna get his season, single season record. I know it. I know it's gonna happen.

Track 1:

Oh, the Russian game. So it was, it's usual sputtering self for a while and then Dukes came in and just took over for a drive. I was worried'cause it was like the second rush of the game. Quan Wright just decided to fall down

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

for a five yard loss on the handoff. And so not his best performance. I think he ended up with like 10 carries for zero yards or something. But Dukes came in and we just fed him for a whole drive and he took that thing over and eventually we passed it for a touchdown.'cause I think he was just tired. We tried to feed him, we tried to reward him with the touchdown, but then he was outta gas. And so we passed it in. But that was the offense had been doing all right. I mean, we'd been, we were up 14 seven at that point, but the interception we'd had, you know, had to use some trip play, stuff like that. But that really opened it up, you know, made it 21 7 to go into the right before the half. And then from that point we had six straight drives where we went down and scored points. So once you get that running game going, we could see how that changed everything.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

and Dukes was, I kind of felt for him because that whole drive, he was work horsing it, right? He was finding the gap. He was making guys Miss, I think it's all the way to end of the field and we pass for that touchdown. I was like, man, get that guy his six. But you're absolutely right. Right. Once they and Charlotte didn't have a whole bunch of depth to where they could be moving folks around or shifting things like you're either committing to one or the other, and once they started guarding the run pass game was just fine.

Track 1:

Even more important than that with complimentary run game and pass game, had some complimentary defense out there too.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Woo. I tell you what, best defense in the nation, baby

Track 1:

we've always said

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. This is defense of the best.

Track 1:

Everyone was saying that right after that for opening drive. TD too,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Oh my gosh. They just, oh man.

Track 1:

they went down the field, but it was what I wanted, to be honest, like not the end result, but we didn't give up the chunk plays of. Easy touchdown. That came later, but,'cause we can't have a whole game without one of those.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

No. They gotta get at least one

Track 1:

I was a little scared. I was like, oh man, this is exactly what I call it for and it's not working. but that was their, they got that was their only third down to conversion of the night was on that drive, on that opening drive. So, look, you figure you, you calm down, you set you, you settle in, you figure out, oh, you know, this is what they're running. These are the guys I'm lining up against. Take a breath and go. You're like, okay, we can handle this after the first drive. cause they came back after that and went for the fourth down from their own 10. And we got stopped there. And from there on out it was smooth sailing. they were one for 13 on third down for the night, zero for four on fourth down we got three turnovers. Probably could have had a couple more.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. And that's, I think that's where offense is fine for me. It's always waiting for the defense to miss their assignment or for someone to crack open that big play, right? You're never actually safe.'cause you never know when someone's gonna just, you know when a DB's gonna jump for the ball early and the receiver's gonna catch it and run right by him. I mean, at least it's not like a Bills defender on the goal line. Just watching Jalen Hertz run into the end zone and not trying to tackle him or anything, but you never know when it's gonna happen.

Track 1:

I think this was the case of, things got rolling a little too well for us and guys got a little overconfident and is like, oh, he is throwing this ball right to me. Oh wait, there's still a wide receiver there who can also play the ball. Yeah, I mean, if he just plays the man instead of jumping, like you said, for the ball that's, yeah, sure. He catches it maybe a 30 yard catch or whatever it was, and tackle him. Pretty routine play, but just, got a little ahead of himself, thought he had an interception and, but not the end of the world.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

No

Track 1:

I'd rather see that, but you know, it wasn't like he just completely busted the coverage or, you know, wasn't in position or went to make a tackle and missed the tackle. Unfortunately, you know, we've seen plenty of that all year. So I can deal with a guy with a little bit of a mental lapse of trying to make a play and, forgetting

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

But isn't that where their true freshman quarterback had just come in? That was like his first drive.

Track 1:

it was like a second throw or something

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

like he, he comes in and he ends up, that's kind of demoralizing. So we gave him a concussion. We said, you're not How dare you. Meet the turf.

Track 1:

Yeah. We made the, made him pull the first quarterback for bad play, put in the second guy, and then we're like, no, you're not allowed to play with this toy over here. Crushed that man.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

He, as soon as he hit the turf, his arms went up. I was like, oh damn. Like we, we actually hurt that guy. Like it wasn't intentional, it wasn't a dirty player or anything like that. I mean, he finished the hit, took him to the turf. His head bounced off the turf. That's instant concussion. I just, I really felt for the dude.'cause he was feeling himself too.

Track 1:

Yeah. I mean, it was interesting to see him come in and not the other guy we had said potentially could come in the senior. I think they were like, screw that guy. we're trying to see what we got for the future, I guess.'cause then even after the injury, they went back to the first guy and didn't go to the third

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

They're like, all right, you're better than the other dude apparently. So just we're rolling with you even though you've shit this game down your leg the whole time.

Track 1:

even without, you know, again, nothing dirty or, there's no bounty gate going on here, but that's gotta be like the fourth, fifth quarterback change we've seen against us during the season.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

we're definitely finishing tackles. We're definitely hitting guys and I mean that, like I said, I don't think it's intentional ups to the strength and conditioning guy, just creating beasts out there.

Track 1:

Let's think about that.'cause Navy switched quarterback, but I think that was for'cause the guy couldn't hit the fucking cyber barn. Memphis got hurt, rice got hurt. Alabama change quarterbacks.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

But that was just because. we were killing them. and now they're back in the college football

Track 1:

boomer bust. Yeah. That I don't under, I do not understand how that Alabama team, we saw it all as a chance to go play for the playoff, this coming up weekend. I guess'cause we didn't see Jalen Mill quarterback, just Saban was worried we would hurt him, so we sa pulled him out for that

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

out like keep that guy out. This team is gonna hurt quarterbacks. It is an interesting point. We have definitely, we have struck fear into the hearts of quarterbacks. Not if they're passing, right. If they're passing, they love our team. They're getting a career day, but if they get hit, it's bad. It's, bad juju.

Track 1:

boom or bust. He either. Walk off the field a hero or get carried off in a

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Get carted off that thing with the gyms.

Track 1:

special teams? I think it was, kind of exciting this week, you know?

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

We had some returns. That's all we've been asking for. Good, solid punting. We didn't miss any field goals or extra points. we put that, onside kick. That was cool.

Track 1:

yeah. our on sidekick was way better than their on sidekick

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well, we didn't just kick it outta bounce for whatever, like, all right. The trick is we got, you know, just put it down the middle of the field. That's an interesting little wrinkle. That's the first time I've seen that onside kick done that way. But I mean, it's interesting'cause you're always huddling up the kickoff team, so just don't break the huddle and run from there. It's super cool.

Track 1:

It was, I think someone, you know, to coined it like a stampede or a running of the bulls type situation. Where,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

the announcer was like, that's an avalanche play. I think he had seen it before.

Track 1:

he missed the easy reference there with the bulls mascot.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Oh, they missed a lot of references. They weren't that, they were not that great. Those E-S-P-N-U announcers, they never are. And then Matt Hill, the redeemer got himself a little bit of return.

Track 1:

I thought he was taking it to the house, man.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I did too.

Track 1:

On senior night. That'd have been huge

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, I did too. I thought he was, man, I was like, the first time in the season it happens. And it's the last fucking game.

Track 1:

Last game we were up, whatever it was, 28, 14 or something like that point. Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

We did it We did it. Woo-hoo. But we didn't do it. And we also, now here's the tough part about penalties. For me, we played a relatively clean game, but did we, it's tough with these American reps.

Track 1:

Yeah, only one penalty for five yards. That was the offside. but there were a couple others that got declined and stuff like that. So,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'll take it. You know what? I won't take hot or not uniforms. Ugh.

Track 1:

what aren't you taking? What aren't you taking about the

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Here's the thing, and I gotta stay true to my word. I can't be a wishy-washy piece of shit here. I talk trash about the matte gray. When UAB warm for Children's Harbor, I didn't like them, thought they looked like crap. And I'm sorry, Lee, but I didn't like them this week. I didn't like'em. I don't like'em. I don't like the look with the slime green. Just go with slime. Now, there was something about the uniforms I liked. I did like the helmets. I did like the decal. I also liked the kind of gold. Shiny face guard mask things, but also if you look at those with the face shields, they even had like matching numbers on the little tabs that stick up and the hardware all match the uniform. It's details like that, that make a uniform look clean, that like kind of separates you from the lower tier programs and the upper tier programs. I liked that. I just did not like the look of the matte gray and the slime green just trying a little bit too hard for me.

Track 1:

you're going soft in your old age. Man.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

I hated these things with a fiery passion, mainly because they're not practical. I couldn't read the numbers for. Fucking anything. Couldn't tell who's who out there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

the announcer said the same thing. The announcer was like, this is a nightmare.

Track 1:

But I get sure you wanna do something splashy for recruits and all that kind of stuff. That's fine. I just did not like this combination look of the slime with the gray. To me it felt like they had like four different concepts for a alternate uniform all thrown into one uniform.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

It's the

Track 1:

like the decal you talk about with the bulls, I like that. I just didn't think it was the right look with the gray helmet and then the gray

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

uniforms and all that. Like,'cause it seemed like they were looking for the, had a similar kind of script theme with some basketball alternate uniforms I've seen online, of like where they went, like with Tampa Bay on the uniforms and stuff like that. And like, that cursive font type thing. And it looks cool. It's like a retro throwback, but then you're doing retro throwback with Gray, you know, new age, it's,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it, you're right. And then it also throws you off when the other team is in dark green.

Track 1:

yeah. Oh, yes. I forgot about that as well. Yeah. Let's, on the senior night, let's put the team in our home colors. Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. And so it's like, all right, we're running around in gray with the slime doesn't match Everything. Looks kinda like you're saying all thrown together. It just wasn't my, it wasn't my favorite.

Track 1:

At what point did they come up with the, the backstory for the uniform too, of this was the, uh, cement foundation for the future of this program over here. who came up with that is the tagline?

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

did not hear that. Where the hell did that come from?

Track 1:

I saw it on Twitter somewhere. So, yeah, it was

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Oh my gosh. It's almost as bad as the damn graphics that they're putting out for these, for the games, whoever is in your media and marketing. I'm not saying that person's bad at their job, but I'm saying, I'm saying, that's some corny shit that is lacking the riz. As they say

Track 1:

Oh, look at you with the terms. I guess you would be of the, opinion that we should fire the marketing coordinator.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

But you know what I really am wondering? Hey, should we extend Coach Alex Goli yet

Track 1:

Wait, what'd you say? Did you say extend?

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

extend him? Man, keep that guy for as long as fucking possible. As long as humanly possible.

Track 1:

I like it. I like it. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Coach Klich got us six wins.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

I guess I was sitting next to his parents at the San Antonio game,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Really?

Track 1:

the other week, but didn't get to talk to them or anything. But,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

That's on you. Hey, aren't you? That guy's parents? How's Russia?

Track 1:

Yeah, that's pretty much how the conversation would've gone then. I think they would've tried to talk to me in some Russian and it would've been awkward.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

and walked away. Sorry.

Track 1:

yeah. But look, coach Golish doing all the right things, got six and six. He had a lot of, his press conference is chockfull of a lot of good sound bites. you know, he talked about even though he was happy, he is proud of the guys and celebrating all that stuff. He was very clear that this is not the standard for where this program should be or will be going forward. Right. Six and six is

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

nice for year one. But even that, he wasn't like, this was not our goal for even this season, you know? So,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well,

Track 1:

just a taste of what's to come. So.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

that's where I think what he's doing is really important because he's essentially brought in some talent, and we've talked about this in other pods, but basically took what we had and said, all right, this is what you can do with this right now. Let's build on it because it's tough. What was it, Nebraska or Northwestern or something that. The biggest improvement season to season from

Track 1:

North, Northwestern. Yeah. Yeah. Northwestern.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

had the biggest improvement. I mean, that's not easy to do, right? Because there's a whole bunch of stuff you're competing with, and we've talked about this, like you have to kind of pick one or pick just a few because there's just so many things and it looks like his focus on culture and process and finding the guys that fit where they're supposed to fit, going with the talent you've got, it's worth it. Now you can build off that. Alright. If the Greg informs is the foundation, I hate it. It's fucking corny, but it makes sense.

Track 1:

Maybe that means we're getting some, some wood uniforms next year as we build the frame. I don't

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'll tell you if we go better than six and six, someone's seeing some wood.

Track 1:

but Coach Go talked about a couple other things in there too. and I, you know, he, just to your point of how hard it is to turn around and taking the big first step there, you know, the bowl game is huge for the extra practices he talked about. That's a big reason why the good teams stay good and the bad teams stay bad is because the good teams get to spend more time together and keep practicing and develop, you know, younger players and all that kind of stuff during these extra practices. he also had some nice sound bites of just talking about different points in the game, and he's not afraid to kind of let it rip during The press conference. I love that he'll tell a reporter like, no, that question just doesn't make sense. I know I've said that before, but he did it again in this one. Like, and then the reporter tried to rephrase the question. He was still just like, no

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

No, not.

Track 1:

but he was talking about going into the game, kind of talking pre-game with all the players and just like we wanted, you know, is the fast starts and not being able to finish some of these other games. He talked, he told him, we're gonna choke'em out. We're gonna keep the foot on the throat. And you know, a lot of coaches probably wouldn't use that lang, they'll use that language in the locker room, but wouldn't talk that they're then saying that in the presser. Right. in today's day and age, but I'm all for

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

He's a genuine dude.

Track 1:

Yep, exactly. He is who he says he is. And then he was talking about, someone asked him about the onside kick and he said, he gave credit to Morris Brown for that one, for, came up to him after.'cause they, we just settled for the field goal right before that. So I go him for it on fourth down and he said that. He'd promised him that he was gonna unload the clip. So that's what the onside kick was for.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, I love it. I love it. I also in in building a culture of like. Recognizing the players and anyone can be the next man up and just like really trying to get guys competing. I like how, and I don't know if this is Coach Go thing, but how they've started recognizing on social media, like the Practice Quad Players of the Week. I don't know that I've ever seen that before.

Track 1:

Yeah. No, that's definitely been new this year.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

And it's like you're competing wherever you're at on this team, right? There's always something to compete for. You're always trying to get guys like, yeah, you want to get out here and unload the clip. Let's do it. Let's do it. This is your program. I think it shows a genuine respect and love for the guys. And I'm telling you, at the beginning of the season, last season, I was not a fan of this coach co hire I have, I am.

Track 1:

Yeah, it seems like the players have really bought in, just'cause what you're saying too, they all get their shot genuine opportunity and we see that reflected when a guy like Matt Hill, who has been our, our punching bag for a better part of two years here.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Sorry, Matt

Track 1:

way to take it, way to stay with the team and keep shooting your shot too. How to, you know, he's made some good special teams plays all through the season. gotten in on defense a couple times and then this week had the big return. So with him and both him and Daquan Evans, graduating honored on Senior night, we're gonna have to find a new name for our Player of the Week Award next year.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. I don't know. This week it's supposed to be someone Good because we won. Yeah. and so it would be the Daquan Evans who had himself a pick that was almost returned for a touchdown as we've discussed. I don't know who it's gonna be. Maybe it's gonna be the coach Go Player of the Week award. I don't know. And then if they're bad or good, we'll change it.

Track 1:

The coach, Orlando

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, we'll change it to the Coach Orlando, player that we get the defensive line sucking. It can be Coach Patrick. It's good players though. And I mean, I just don't know, I don't know how you could pick anyone but Byron Brown for it this week. I mean, he set a school record for passing yards, passing two of the best quarterbacks we've had. Quentin Flowers and Matt Grothy. He got all conference honors for like the sixth time this season. The dude is a workhorse and he doesn't hit every pass. He's not accurate every single time, but he is learning. He has come a far away from the beginning of the season to where he is at now. I'm hoping he sticks around'cause he's the future of this program.

Track 1:

Yeah, I think that's the easy choice. And everything you said is spot on about him. He needs to stick around.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah, don't.

Track 1:

giving him the bag, give him the bag. But I'm gonna, you know, just for argument's sake, throw out another name who had a quiet season, but I thought finished it out on senior night. Kelly Joiner, who's guy, maybe we expected some more out of all throughout his ESF career. had a nice night with catching the ball on that touchdown and had nice few runs in there. So he's gonna be my player. the week just kind of a epitome for me of guys who stuck around and bought into Coach Go and maybe weren't utilized, fully during their USF career, unfortunately, and could have been different if we had Coach go all along.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

sure. And I, you know, it's a great point. I think the other thing is I didn't really see any bad play from any of our seniors, right? Donovan Jennings played a great game, great quote, unquote, right? Like D Evans, Kelly Joiner, even Matt Hill, like these guys played a, a badass game. Good on them. All of'em. Get the Daquan Evans Player of the Week Award.

Track 1:

Daquan Evans and Matt Hill. Even though it was, win, Matt Hill gets the naming for the

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

He gets the naming for it too. Yeah. Especially with those little bit of extra yards on that return, which kinda, it's not one of'em, but bring me to the macro, the holy shit. How did he do that play of the game?

Track 1:

I mean, if he'd taken that return to the touchdown, he would've won. He would've won the Mac Growthy. Holy

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

He for sure would've.

Track 1:

tackled by the kicker takes him outta the running.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Wwo. I mean, kickers are dangerous, man. You never know.

Track 1:

The guy was still mad about his onsite kick launch into the first row. Had to take

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it's a, yeah, I'm going for that guy.

Track 1:

What do we have for plays in this category though? we got, Simmons without sick one-handed touchdown grab.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

that thing was nasty. That was a wild catch. That was instantly like. My, my pick,

Track 1:

Okay. Okay. he's shown us, I don't know why this one will be in there'cause he does it all the time. But Atkins with the passing touchdown, I think was on the money for joiner too.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I think because we had tried a double pass already and we were like, why did we, why do it with anyone else? But the goat Atkins, he could do it all.

Track 1:

And then a third one was, on Byron Brown's running touchdown. Just the cut that he put on that one

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Oh

Track 1:

ankles Nasty out

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

gosh. That was, oh, I went back and watched that like 15 times. because just the guy like laid out Oh, I love it. Absolutely love it. there were some great plays in this game.

Track 1:

There were,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

and I don't know that we talk about it in the cream, but there's some great defensive plays too. There was one point where like, where, Ross not only tackled the ball carrier, but like tackled two or three other dudes at the same time. I don't know if you saw That one. Right. Like where he like blew up three dudes of the one tackle. Like, holy shit man. How did you do that?

Track 1:

Yeah. Yeah. Uh, day, day's return. Could have been up there. Yeah. There's e even the Logan Berryhill interception at the time. When he got that first one, I was like, wait, our safety was standing behind the wide receiver when it was overthrown.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

He was right where He needed to be.

Track 1:

to catch it before it hit the ground. Oh my God.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well, that's the thing, like I might've even said in the group chat that's group chat. That's the only time our safety has managed to like. Accidentally be in the right position at the right time.'cause he wasn't even making a play on that guy. He was just kinda like, I think he was running coverage against someone else and just was like, oh, Paul. Cool.

Track 1:

I,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'll take it.

Track 1:

it's better than n seeing the ball.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Speaking of n seeing refs,

Track 1:

Yeah. The refs didn't see shit out there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

see anything, didn't really call anything that, that the end of the half we've already talked about ad nauseum. That was some bad, that's a bad rein.

Track 1:

that was a shit show that the refs bailed themselves out of at the end of the half, I mean. I was already on it. Like first I was telling Evans to go down'cause I thought there was time to then like, hit a field goal if he'd just like gotten 20 yards and gone down. But then he did Spin Aama, then time was out, then it's like start lateral and they're doing whatever you gotta do to get in there. they called a blindside block on that play, which was just completely wrong. they were confused about which direction, which team was going. and then they got, were all, didn't know whether there was an untimed down or not, where to put the ball. Eventually they figured out that, I guess he was down at the one so they could just review it and go with that and forget about all the other bullshit that's going on at the end

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

the way they were talking about it, it was stupid. Like with the penalty, you're supposed to have an untimed down, but if they say, if they review it and say that he wasn't actually in and he was down, well, then Charlotte gets the opportunity to decline the penalty, and then essentially it's the end of the half. And that's what they did. The penalty was bullshit. I think he was in, I don't think he was actually down, but

Track 1:

I did not look at a replay of it, so I might need to do that after this. I know. Didn't do my homework.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Didn't do your homework.

Track 1:

but more important, that wasn't even the most egregious review by the refs though. Worse than that,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Go on.

Track 1:

they didn't give Atkins his goddamn catch. And I fully believe, you know, it wasn't enough yards to get him the record, but if he gets 10 or 15 more, whatever it was on that was pretty early in the game. Maybe we started to take a little more notice. Oh, he is only X yards away. We keep feeding him a little bit more, you know, but

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

The refs took that from Shakin, and I'll never forgive them.

Track 1:

it looked like a clear catch to me. I don't understand why it was not overturned, but I guess you guys didn't have replay angles for TV or something so.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention. I was eating Chinese food that made me sick. I got creamed

Track 1:

had Chinese food. Creamed

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

It got me. Ugh.

Track 1:

Not in a good way.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Nope. It not in a good way. We creamed that quarterback.

Track 1:

Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

We had

Track 1:

trying to remember what his name was. Steven Johnson or

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Tyler Johnson. or something, some Johnson.

Track 1:

Johnson. You got creamed?

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

his Johnson in the dirt. What we did. I mean, that dude got the shit smacked at him. There were a couple other really good plays. was one early on where, I don't remember who it was, it might've been Brown, Bunky brown Bunky who came up and like just leveled their really big,

Track 1:

Oh yeah. Stuck a guy in the flat.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

I remember that one. Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

one. I, you know, put it right in the group chat. That's the cream.

Track 1:

I don't think it was this one, but there's another similar one where they're tight end or full back, whatever he is, was going across the middle and like, we went low on him and I thought he was getting his ACL blown out

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

That's the only way you could tackle

Track 1:

kept and he kept going like it was no problem. I was like, Jesus.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, that dude

Track 1:

I mean, he kept going for like, when I say kept going, he fell forward for a yard after that. But,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Forward Momentum baby.

Track 1:

yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Got it. You know what? Didn't get it. D Gamt.

Track 1:

D Gamt so much better, so much easier to do when we're d GAMTs didn't cost us the game. Instead, look, easiest one on defense, that second touchdown dag Gamt. tackle the guy and stop trying to get your, you're thinking you're getting an easy interception over there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Trying to make it onto the sports center top 10 instead. You meant it on the

Track 1:

everybody else getting one and thought he could get one too. Didn't realize it was a new quarterback in there who could actually throw the ball.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Who? Who caught you slipping?

Track 1:

Yeah. we talked about the Dayday Evans won already. one that we, on one of the other turnovers, it ended up being a moot point. It was on that big hit of the QB where he fumbled and then we were running it back or whatever. Ended up reviewing it and saying he didn't actually, it was down or whatever, but I was screaming Dad gambit on that one because we had a convoy of like four guys. With him. And no one blocks the one guy who came and made the tackle. Like they're all just running next to him. Like, oh, you're on the other team. My bad. Like,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

we don't know, we haven't done that since like Navy, and we don't know what to do in that situation. Everybody's like, whoa. I don't know. I just, I'm just along for the ride.

Track 1:

yeah, I'm just running to the end zone. there's nothing else to do, nothing to worry about here.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

coach told me to run.

Track 1:

if I'd actually been a fumble, I would've been real pissed. That definitely would've won. D game it for

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. But you know, the guy got a concussion, so it wasn't a fumble.

Track 1:

D Gammit. that guy's just got a concussion.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, he looked like he had been taken back to the Korean War. I mean, he was looking shell-shocked on the side.

Track 1:

I'll have to, I'll have to watch that one too. When I'm going to look to see if state A got in or not.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

one of my dad gamuts, I guess is like the camera crew. And just like the offense was going so fast, the angles and the shots were like really bad and we couldn't see what was going on. But that play was an example because like play continues and for some reason we are watching this now. Concussion. Drunk dude fumble his way to the medical tent, right? Like he's stumbling all over the sideline and shit's happening on the field and like, yeah, he is not looking great. What are you doing Get back to the, what do you like? we'd be looking,

Track 1:

it was probably like a fourth down or something after that too. Yeah, it was. Exactly.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

we not looking at this shit? There were other times where like the play's happening and we're zoomed in on like. Atkins lined up behind another dude and like the ball actually gets snapped and they all start running down the field. And all I'm looking at is the back Atkins jersey Dad gammit. What are you doing? Show me the feel.

Track 1:

I mean, that sounds like a smart choice if that's how, what we should have been doing. They just assumed every ball was gonna Atkins, so they're just following'em around the field over there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Well, you know dad Gammit.

Track 1:

that's a typical dumb complaint from you.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

they're all dumb. They're all of'em dumb. You know what else is dumb? Tweets? USF fans, the people

Track 1:

Yeah. So the first one is from the bulls pen. It's the return of the great bull cocky.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I thought he was leaving.

Track 1:

He's, he, apparently that was all for show. He's been listening. He said he's been listening to the pod all along and that we talk about him all the time. I'm pretty sure we talked about him for like two episodes now. Bringing him back for third, but that's'cause he mentioned us first. You know, I said he's enjoyed it and I think he's ready to get back on board and start rowing. He had a big long post, but he about how he needs to know where we're rowing to though, and where this program's going and how we're gonna be above Florida and FSU and I'm like, look man, I'm on board, I'm on board for getting above those programs, but he wanted in the next like five to 10 years and I'm, unless you got like Bill Gates, billions of dollars to start dumping on this program, none of us, none of our fan contributions are gonna matter, man. They got hundreds of million dollar Head start. We gotta get there. We gotta start taking the right steps to go that direction. But it ain't happening in five to 10 years.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, I think, you know, I hate saying this, but if you're looking for. a framework of how to do it because you know, FSU Miami not doing that great, but Florida's doing even worse. You know, like these are teams that have long histories with like alumni all across the spectrum. And I'm not just talking the autism spectrum. I'm talking like all across the spectrum of, you know, resources and success. And they're pouring money back into these schools. USF just isn't there yet. UCF has turned it around and kind of benefited from conference realignment. Even though they're not doing that great, they're still winning where they went. Right? And that gets eyes, but there's kind of this expectation management of, unless something turns around USF is not that program in the near term, right? That's a long term goal.

Track 1:

right, and Like, what are you measuring? Whether we're better than, you know, there's so much history and

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

getting, all those programs are getting hundreds of millions of dollars every season. I mean, you look at someone like a Texas a and m where they're like, oh yeah, we're gonna spend, we$80 million on firing our coach. And it's a drop in the

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. And they're just like, cool, whatever. Got that laying around.

Track 1:

it, you can't, you just honestly can't expect to say we're on a level with that program. We can, we get there, can we keep improving and do the right steps to say that one day we're there and we haven't been doing that for the past 10, 15 years, whatever it is. Sure. But like, we gotta work on getting outta this dog shit conference. Yes. We gotta work on getting our athletics donations and everything, all of that kind of stuff up. And the On-campus stadium, all of those are in the right direction. Like, there's a Kind of article posts making the rounds about this kind of a hundred million dollar divide in college football athletics of, there's 60 ish teams that spend more than a hundred million annually

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Gosh,

Track 1:

on their football program. And we're at 40 million, so we gotta get there.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

there's this idea too, and we have this in running. I'm a runner, and it's when you get out there, you have, you know how fast you can run, right? You have your pace. And so when you start running, you don't actually run against the other folks. You Run your own race. right? You get out there,

Track 1:

Yep. I've heard that.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

you run your own pace, you run your own race, and if that ends up being the fastest time, that ends up being the fastest time, but this is the same thing, right? USF has got to. Turn in on themselves, establish the process, establish the culture, start winning where we should be winning. And if that puts us at a level where now we're competing with these bigger programs in the state, fantastic. Right? But we're not trying to compete with them right now. We're trying to compete with ourselves. And that's a critical distinction. We have not gotten out of our own way since Charlie Strong.

Track 1:

Yeah. No, that's a great metaphor and well explained, but I gotta add my own in here. Going back to the rowing here, look, we got across this vast ocean. We just gotta get to the other side. Doesn't matter who else is over there when we get there, we just gotta get there. we're in our little row boat. And we see all these other teams with fucking yachts and a goddamn battleship next to us, and there's five of us in this fucking rowboat. And this dude's like, well, I don't wanna row unless we're gonna beat those guys over there. I'm like, sorry dude, we're It is not happening. Get your ass in the boat in fucking row

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

just.

Track 1:

and we'll get there,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Because it's either that or we, die of starvation out here in the ocean.'cause because people aren't rowing, so hop on or know you contributed to our downfall. I mean,

Track 1:

There you go. Yeah.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it's a great point. Welcome back, Bullocky. It's great to

Track 1:

Welcome back. glad you're back on the bandwagon.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it's good to have you. You know, who never left the bandwagon, I guess this next one,

Track 1:

This next guy. Yeah, I've seen him on Twitter a lot. I'm not sure, where he became a fan. this is M grow, the eight, uh, and he said BB is the goat of USF. And I gotta say, I mean, there's some other quarterbacks out there. Who might have that, who might take issue with that

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I think maybe m grow the eight I take issue with that. You know, I think that's just him being humble. He's always a humble guy, you know. Quentin Flowers. Andre Hall. Okay.

Track 1:

Bebe, I'm happy that was Mattie by the way, in case you guys didn't catch you, em grow. The eight was, I'm happy that he's supporting the guy and can see the talent there. I mean, certainly a, an amazing season by Byron Brown. I'm personally not ready to crown him the goat yet. I think you still gotta do it for a career and make sure he doesn't leave this off season but I think obviously we see the talent there and what he was able to do in his freshman season. There's no reason he wouldn't reset all the USF records if he sticks around. So.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I mean, he's already first season. First full season, he's got one. Right? that bodes well for a guy. He stayed healthy through the whole season.

Track 1:

You just mentioned, running your own race. Now he's got his own mark to, to go beat each season going out from here, so go be go beat himself.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

That's early in a relationship when you end up like overdoing it on gifts and then like the next year for an anniversary or birthday or something, then you had to compete with this. Like you, you blew your load the first go around like three thousand's pretty hard, but brother, you did it. No one could take that from you. You know what else? They're not taking from you. We're going bowling.

Track 1:

Going bowling. What you guys have all been waiting

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

we're going bowling. Where are we going? Red? Nobody fucking knows. Nobody knows anyone that says they know where we're going. They're lying.

Track 1:

Unless we've taken too long to edit this, in which case it's already been announced. But as of right now, at this time, no one knows where we're going. I assume Lees will be one of the first people to know when we, when they do know where they're going. And he'll tell us early. I'm sure

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'll get that text message. I probably already have it. I just have it looked down at my phone.

Track 1:

I might get the message. You won't get the text message until after the game has already occurred and

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I guess where we're going. Yeah. whatever.

Track 1:

But there's like, a dozen tie-ins or something with our conference, but it's all made up. And ES ESPN's just gonna change'em around and put whoever they want, wherever they want for however they deem a ratings or attendance or dollars or whatever's driving their decision making. So

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I feel like this, the bowl landscape has changed wildly from what it used to be of like, these are your bowls and that's it. And you can usually

Track 1:

no, I liked it so much more where like your conference had these bowls and like some of them even had like ranked choice of this bowl's taken the first team and this team, this one then can choose from these remaining teams and all that kind of stuff. Now it's just like, throw it out there where do you want to go in the

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

have these 62 bowls and, I don't know. We'll figure it out from there. So.

Track 1:

I mean I knew it was bad when The Bahamas Bowl isn't even being played in The Bahamas this year. So

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

The Bahamas of North Dakota, wherever that's at.

Track 1:

but the ones were loosely tied to the Fenway Bowl, the Armed Forces Bowl, the Hawaii Bowl, military bowl, cure bowl, Frisco Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Myrtle Beach Bowl, Boca Raton Bowl, first responder Bowl, Birmingham bowl and gastro bowl. Some of those we've played in before. I think the.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

times.

Track 1:

Five or so, most likely probably that I've seen kind of rumored and floated around Fenway Bowl, Myrtle Beach Cure, which is in Orlando, Boca Raton or Gasparilla. I really don't want the fucking Gasparilla bowl.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. I would, that's pretty low on my

Track 1:

It's nothing to do with not wanting to play, UCF or whatever too. It's just, I just don't wanna stay home for bowl season. I think that's unfair to the players and everything like that who've worked their asses off to, that's the best thing about, you know, even as equipment staff, guys, fucking bowl week, free week of travel.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

I mean, it's a lot of work'cause you gotta move all your practice equipment all out there and live out of a hotel and all that kind of

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

and you're setting up. at like a high school field or something like that. It's a shit ton of work, but you get the per diem.

Track 1:

Yep.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

banking, you having a blast wherever you're at. I think you probably share my hope for this one, but I'm kind of leaning towards the Myrtle Beach Bowl. I think that would be a cool one.

Track 1:

I think that's different. It gets you outta the state, but still not shipped off to negative degree weather in Boston or whatever it's gonna be in December. And yeah, I think Myrtle Beach is my number one. I wouldn't mind, like Boca or Orlando as kind of fallbacks, you know, at least then you're still getting outta town. But, and those are a little easier for me to travel to personally. Maybe most USF fans.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

it would travel well. Yeah.

Track 1:

yeah, hopefully we do travel well. I mean that's a big part of, we talked about, you know, rowing the boat and building this program, bold attendance and how well your fans are out there spending money for these things. That's a big time. commitment. So that's, you ask what you can do for the program. That's a big one right

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah. Bull travel, baby. Just start gearing it up. Just know it's coming. I mean, if Myrtle Beach happens, I'm going, that's right. Up the road.

Track 1:

There

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Yeah.

Track 1:

Look at you giving out docs in yourself. Again,

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

one knows. I mean, there's a lot of roads that lead to Myrtle. Right. All roads apparently. It's interesting. All roads lead to Myrtle, but I don't, Fenway, we kind of talked about Boston a little too cold for my taste. and yeah, would be a cool bowl to go to. I don't hate it, but, and in terms of travel, I don't know that too many Floridians make their way up to Boston for that one,

Track 1:

Right.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

so we're, yeah.

Track 1:

we'll definitely be back once it gets announced though. you're not done with the pod yet, so.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Is that, what, is that what we're doing? We're gonna do a preview episode, I guess once we know where we're going. Yeah. we'll probably do a recap of whatever that game is, and then probably one more end of the season recap. Maybe we'll do a recruiting one, see how the team's looking. We'll definitely do a spring game pod. I say definitely. But

Track 1:

Yeah, definitely. And then, we'll see if we're renewed for season three or not, I guess if the network picks up our option.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

there's nobody paying for this red There's nobody, gosh. Oh man. But we have some followers. And for that, you know, it's been a long season. Last season was even worse. But I mean, to come back and have some success in that, folks consistently grow in the pod and downloading it, that's pretty cool.

Track 1:

Yeah, definitely something to be thankful for around this time of year. maybe we'll do a, maybe we'll do a fan episode. We can just invite all everybody into our little recording and see what people have to say.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'm telling you, we've already kind of talked about doing something like that with the group chat, the original equipment staff kind of talking through what this pod should

Track 1:

Some, off season interviews.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Tell me why you don't like Puka

Track 1:

Let everybody hear directly from Bobby

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

I'm sure it, Ugh, let's just mix that idea right now. There you have it folks. We are going bowling.

Track 1:

I don't know what to do with my hands.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

Me either. I've been doing something with my hands since, since that win,

Track 1:

Oh, that's why you've been sick.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

yeah. That's why I'm not feeling well for the folks that were calling this program into question, I just want to point out and highlight one last time we went from one win last season, four over the last three

Track 1:

Yep.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

to bowl eligible in just one season. That's progress. That

Track 1:

Just a reminder Bowl eligible is six games as well.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

yeah. Six months. For those folks at home who probably have a PKA level knowledge of football. There you go. When is, when are we doing the next episode,

Track 1:

I don't even know what I'm doing for the rest of today, man.

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

You should

Track 1:

Enjoying the

pookah_1_11-27-2023_122753:

enjoy it, baby. Either way. This season is officially a win. The whole damn thing. Everybody go, bulls

Track 1:

Go Bulls.
