We're really having to look at how we approach this podcast. Cause it's something we love doing, but. It's tough.

Yeah, I was looking back on a lot of our stuff, trying to put together some of our thoughts for the season and going back to last year, I'm just glad it's just an off season to change. we've got the same coaching staff sticking around. We've got most of the huge returning squad of players. So it's nice in that regard of we've got expectations. We didn't have those for the last three years, at least. So that's a nice change. Welcome change. And God, I don't know what to do with myself a lot of people were asking about the episodes and stuff like that And quite honestly, it was a lot easier to do this shit when there was so much shit to complain about and hate on and laugh at and Now that we're hopefully, you know building on a seven and six season Expectations are higher than that. We want more wins. We want a conference championship God, am I a little nervous about it? Am I anxious? am I? Worried I'm going to be let down because God knows I couldn't be let down for, I was immune to that shit for a little while.

This is how USF does it. This is, they give you a little bit of hope. You start coming back, you claw back, but that one, the conference championship has always just been a bridge too far. We always just barely miss it. And it's like, I not to keep talking about them, but it feels like the Stanley cup for the Florida Panthers, right? Like 20 years of trying to get that just coming this close and again, blown out by Vegas last year, and then coming back and winning it this year in seven games against Edmonton, well, maybe that's the way this works for yourself. We have had great seasons. Under a bunch of different coaches only to feel the bottom of the barrel for a long while and then start to claw out of that and then drop back down in the bottom, coach go is giving us a little hope here and he hasn't made anything sound bad over the off season. We're like, we're trying to grow a program. I'm sure there are guys getting in trouble, but I don't feel like I've heard one about a ton of it. And two, if it does happen, they're just gone, right? but that was, and as relieving as it should feel, that was the USF defense that kept showing up, like a guy that hasn't scored a touchdown all season. All of a sudden has a career day against our defense and it's like. What are y'all doing back there? What's happening? I if we're going to turn this thing around, which I think we're predicting we are, we already did last season, they're going to have to show up. It's not just, I don't know that this team is built yet for a shootout style of play where we are continually scoring, coming back and like making those big plays. It depends on how well this offense is gelling to be able to come back from constant lapses on defense.

Yeah, here's the nice thing. So you've got returning coordinators on both sides. So you got to feel good about seeing some continuity, some improvement, buy into the system, et cetera. Really trying to, you're not just trying to teach guys. You've now get them up to speed. You've now been able to kind of mold them into what you expect and figure out who can do what. on that front, besides Byron Brown, let's start with offense. Who are you most excited to see return? And then who's a newcomer on offense you're looking for?

I think for my return, folks, it's gotta be all the way, Sean Atkins. There's nobody else in my mind that has done more for that offense than Rahman Yassin. aside from Byron Brown, right? I'm excited to see those two continue to gel. I guess the newcomer I'm most excited about is that transfer from Purdue. Abdur Rahman Yassin, I Has he seen his whole I don't know. We're gonna figure it out. We're gonna see. We don't have the media pronunciations of these guys names. We need the media guy. I'm excited him as a wide receiver only because I think if we can spread the ball out and open that game up, we can really open up the running game in a way that gives Byron Brown options, gives Naquan Wright options, gives us the ability to really have that offense. Cause I know there were some complaints last season about how maybe limited or predictable our playbook was. And with just more talent on offense, maybe we're not having to fall back and play it safe, Yeah. What about you?

You have all this stuff that you said you needed. on campus stadium in the works. It's moving, right? are you going to do? It feels like very much a pivotal moment with conference realignment happening, like us not wanting to get left behind. We're seeing UCF getting their balls kicked in. And not being able to do anything with being able to move up, hoping that maybe, Hey, they want another hot market team to come up and move out of a conference. this is a pivotal moment in USF history.
