To make Irish soda bread, follow this simple recipe:
- Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour Marie used KAMUT FLOUR - plus added chopped dried figs, dried dates and dried apricots.
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
1 - In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk.
1 - Stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute.
1 - Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf.
1 - Bake for 30-35 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
