Under Watch: IPV, Vehicle Surveillance, and Maternal Separation

Today the girls discuss IVP which stands for Intimate Partner Violence. They both discover that the abuse they went thru was more violent when they became pregnant and then had their children. Looking at other DV cases there is a pattern of the jealousy of one partner not getting the attention the children are. 

Next, they discuss that Ford announced they have the patent and making cars that pretty much are going to control what you can do and cannot do, Yikes keep those old cars running. 

Ginger has had tech issues with Facebook messenger, Arlo camera not updating, HP printer acting up not wanting to prin, and her Rav4 not displaying incoming text messages. It's been a week.

🔹 IPV + attachment / bonding

• McIntosh et al. (meta-analysis on IPV and attachment security)
• Zhang & Shen (2024): IPV → postpartum depression → weakened mother–child attachment

🔹 IPV + maternal–infant bonding

• Park et al. (IPV during pregnancy → poor bonding mediated by postpartum depression) 

What is less directly studied but clinically recognized:

• targeted interference with caregiving routines
• parenting sabotage behaviors embedded in coercive control systems
• emotional competition with the infant for attention/control

A well-documented area of IPV research is usually framed as post-separation abuse, custody coercion, and legal/administrative abuse, rather than a single clinical category. There is strong literature on partners using systems and institutions to restrict a mother’s access to her child.  

Behaviors:

• Reporting the mother to child protective services with exaggerated or false claims
• Triggering repeated investigations without substantiated findings
• Using anonymous or third-party reports strategically
• Exploiting mandated reporting thresholds (schools, doctors, therapists)

Function:

• Creates state-mediated interruption of custody or visitation
• Increases surveillance and stress on mother
• Can lead to temporary or prolonged separation during investigations
