Surgery, Twin Pregnancy & Shared Parental Leave: Miss Zoe Barber

Mothers In Medicine Season 2 Episode 4

In this episode I’m joined by Miss Zoe Barber, consultant  oncoplastic breast surgeon,  and mother of twins.

Miss Barber shares her experience of going through a twin pregnancy, and discusses the challenges and the benefits  of life as a mother and a surgeon.

She shares why she didn’t love maternity leave and we discuss the stigma around the expectation of mums to enjoy what for many can be a difficult and isolating experience.

We find out how pregnancy changed her as a surgeon, and she shares her experience of sharing parental leave with her surgeon husband.

We also hear why and how she challenged the DVLA national guidance for drivers after having an eclamptic seizure, and of course there are plenty of tips and lots of advice for managing the juggle.
