Once everybody, welcome to Resolution podcast. So this is part two of how I got started with my profession, how I became a chiropractor, how I started my business. So if you haven't listed the first part, check out the first part before you listen to this part. But basically I left off lastly at the guy that came to that was walking by in Staples, and he said that he's gonna go to a chiropractor tomorrow. And I told him I, I was just. I out of desperation, I said, No, you're gonna come see me tomorrow. And so from then on when he said he grabbed my card, he was like, Oh, okay. And as soon as he said that, as soon as I said that, I was like, . Wow. That was kind of rude. I mean, I'm not gonna lie you out. I was like, Wow. I mean, the guy already had an appointment somewhere else, but I was so desperate. I was like, I gotta get something. I can't just be talked to nobody at Staples. I stayed all these hours here. So the guy was just like, was like, Oh, okay, yeah, I guess I'll come. I'll come see you. One thing is this guy, to this day, I still see him and he comes once in a while, a few times a year. He's a good guy. So a long story. Um, so he grabs my card. I gave him my card. I gave him an appointment on the spot. I was like, Okay, you're gonna come this and this and that. What day's good for you? You know, I had all the availability you wanted. So I've never had, that was my first patient ever. And so the guy was like, Okay, this time, So I go to my office. And the day comes that he decided to come and I wait. I wait and he shows up and I was so excited. I was like, Wow, I can't believe this is work. This is great. But you know, I got one person out of all the time, so I was just like, I was nervous. That was my first patient. I didn't know what I was doing. I just started practice. So, um, I go along with it. You know, back in the day I was trying to look like a doctor. As much as I had a white suit on, I had a tie on. I was looking professional as you could be, because my office, if you guys listen to part one, you'll see it was a tiny room that was renting for 200 bucks a month. You can imagine what kind of room that would be, right? If a room is $200. Is an office space is probably not the best. Right? So the guy comes and I hook him up and he, he's a ex military, he was a veteran and stuff like that. And, uh, he had some pain and stuff. I fix him up. He was, he was so amazed by, he was just like, Wow, I feel so much better. I said, Okay, great. Uh, he was like, I'm gonna bring my mom. I said, Okay. And that, at that moment, The day I met him was, I would say, one of my, you know, throughout business guys, I would say you'll see, um, certain sparks that would just take you to the next level. And what was important about this one patient? It was just, it wasn't just my first patient. He actually took me to the next level because his mom came and his mom, after I did some work going love me so much that they actually had started a church. and that church boosted me one big boost to the next level where I started seeing some more people just from that just word of mouth. So that was one of my big boosts that I got throughout business. And so at that angle, I'm, I'm going through the motions here. I'm starting to kind of get, get into routine of it, but I still need some make, some make to make some real money because, you know, it wasn't enough to survive because my student loans kicked in six months later and I was like, I gotta work somewhere. So I started looking at, um, Some jobs, chiropractic profession has some coverage you can cover for doctors that are either sick or they're outta town, or vacation some. So I found this doctor that, um, said, Oh yeah, I need, He broke his leg. And he was like, I need somebody three times a week. I said, Okay, sure. So I decided to actually five days a week, sorry, all week, but certain days it was a little bit less hours than other. And I said, Okay, sure. So I'm working there. So this place is all the way in Solomon Island and I used to live in Maryland at the time, but it was still an hour and a half away from. In my house from my house, and then it was an hour and a half to Springfield, Virginia to my office, and then my office was 40 minutes from my house. So what basically what would happen is that I would go there, I have to be

there 9:

00 AM so I leave around 7, 7 30.

I get there by 9:

00 AM. I drive all the way to some island, hour and a half work till 7 37, 7 o'clock at night. Leave at. Get to Springfield at eight 30 or so and work from 8:30 PM to 12 11

12, sometimes 12:

30 AM pm I guess 11, 11:30 PM 12:00 AM and so. it was a lot because I would leave at seven, come back, and then I would take 40 minutes back. So I'm driving an hour half there and I'm driving an hour half to Springfield, Virginia, and I'm driving 40 minutes back home. So that's about three and a half hours, three hours, 40 minutes of driving every day. I did this and it was just getting really tiring. So I started, but it was good money because I was making some money now. It was getting a little bit more stable so that I can, um, live. Not depend on my office for money, you know, hardcore at the time I was living in my in-laws basement and stuff like that. So I was trying to kind of get myself out, pay the student loans a little bit. So, long story short, well, maybe long story, long honestly, because we have the time , uh, I started working for another. I started looking to see if there's another practice that I can work for that's a little bit sooner, closer. And um, and I found one that was affiliated with University of Maryland Medical School, and I always wanted to work at, in a medical school. So I called the guy, I said for an interview, I go to him and I say, Hey, listen, this and this and that. Um, he's like, Okay. He looked at my resume. I have a spectacular cv, so he was just like, boom. On point. He's like, You're hired. I was like, Okay, cool. But just so you know, I have another office in Springfield. I'm working there too. Um, , I can't work here full-time. He's like, Well, I only hire full-time. I need a full-time job. I said, So what is your job? You know, what are your hours and stuff? He said, Well, all my doctors work about 35, 40 hours a week. Um, as long as you can figure that out, I don't mind. I said, Okay, so can I work for you?

7:00 AM to 7:

00 PM Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and I don't have to come to you Tuesday, Thursday. He's like, Okay, that's. So I'm working Monday, Wednesday, Friday now. I got a full time salary, stable, about 40 minutes from my office. I don't have to drive there to drive there, to drive there, and I'm going to my office Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I was like, Yes. So I'm making, now I'm making like six figure salary. I'm kind of coming to myself, plus the fact that I'm working in my office here. So it came out to a point I was like, I can breathe now because I was paying off student loans and stuff. Even though I was making a lot of money, I was still paying off a lot of loans. So, you know, it was hard to, there was no money, but it was kind of nice to kind of break, break it that into your, uh, break it dent into the debt. So, Coming down to it. I worked there for a couple years, so I contact the guy. I said, Well, I'm, I'm kind of talking to my boss and at the time I'm like, Listen, um, you know, you told me that you are gonna get him to Univers of Maryland. And actually that was part of negotiation table where I was like, Okay, I'll work for you full time, but you have to try your best to get me into University of Maryland. He's like, Okay. You know, that was part of negotiation. So, um, you. Yeah. Yeah. Keep going. Oh, okay. If it moves, I'm just gonna use the Oh, okay. Gotcha, gotcha. Okay. Okay. So, um, so then what happened was that, um, he said, Okay, so as we kind of go and we're talking, so about a year passes by, he's like, Okay, well, you know, it's hard to kind of get you through once you, you know, it's hard to, once you come and shadow. and I'll introduce you to everybody. Okay. I was like, Sure. Where is this all the way into Baltimore, Maryland. And it's kind of far as you guys know, Baltimore, Maryland from where I'm at. Um, it was, it was about an hour or so, but with traffic coming back, it was like two hours. It was while. And um, so I go to, I start after about a year, he allowed me to come and shadow him. So I'm going to the hospital with him. And what happens when the hours, it's a. So Thursday. Okay, great. Which actually worked out from two to 7:00 PM So then I will work Tuesday for myself on Thursday. I work till about one. I leave at one. I get there at two. I work from there. Two to seven. For free. For free. I worked there for free. Why? Guys, let me tell you guys, this is one of the lessons of life. The more you give, the more you get, and it has.. It has been my motto, like every time I've given, I've gotten 10 times tenfold more. And I will tell you that from my experience, I worked there for free for about a year. And what happened was that the way I got my big break at units, because every day, you know, we kind of go in the back and forth. They have to see a need for another chiropractor at a hospital. It's a teaching hospital, so it's a medical school's complicated. The dean has to approve it, the hospital has to approve it, the claims direct the has to approve it. So there's a lot of hands that need to be signed in the paper. So I'm going every week I'm going, I'm driving two hours back, one hour there, two hours back traffic, and I'm there from two to seven every week. Every weekend I'm doing this, and I'm just, towards the end of the year, I'm just like, Oh my.. So here's what happened. I gonna tell you. Delicious whiskey. Um, so here's how I get my second big break within University of Maryland. So, as you know, I went there, worked for a year, and what happened was one day I was at the clinic and the clinic director had an emergency. and he said he went to the doctor, the other chiropractor there and he said, Hey, can you see this patient? And the chiropractor doctor said, um, you know, you can see me, I'm kind of backed up. There's people outside. I can't do it right now. But you know, residents available. He's been here, he can help. And I will tell you what, I don't know why they came up. Okay. I will tell you what, that was my biggest break right there. And I saw I was ready and when I tell you I was ready when he said, RE is over there, he can help. I was like, Yes he is. And he ready? Why? He's ready because I've been there for a year. It, and I was seeing blood of my ass. I was ready. I was ready for this opportunity because this is gonna be my big break. If I do this well, I might just get a job here fully contracted, and that will be huge for me. I said, I got this. So they gave me a room and I was like, Okay, this patient, this is my, this is my big break. If I don't get this right, it may not work out for me. So I hooked her up and she was like, I feel great. This and this and that. I was like, Um, if you truly feel great, I need your help. Go tell the clinic director how well, how good this was. So they know. She said, Okay, no problem. I don't know what she told her, but the next time we had a meeting, the next week after. The clinic director, all the other doctors and the chiropractor there too, and the clinic director goes. So, um, what do you think is getting too many people here and the chiropractor? I don't wanna name names, but the other chiropractor said, uh, you know, it's kind of kind busy and I'm only here one day a week. You know, we can use two, we can use two days, and I can't come twice a week. So, We, It's probably time for another doctor, another chiropractor, doctor. And guess what? The only person they knew that knew the system, knew the patients, knew the other doctors, knew the culture was this guy. And who else are they gonna pick? Somebody that's been there. So I've been there for a year. I pay my due diligence. I was there every week. They can rely on me. They know from lot of aspects. I'm on time for free. I'm on. You understand what I mean? You know how hard it is to work for a year for free. It was one of the hardest things because I was just, I remember towards the end of, I was just like, What am I doing? Like I'm getting nothing. I might, I might get nothing out of this. I might get really, It was, it was big gamble because if that one opportunity doesn't arrive this and this and that, it was a big gamble. But you know what, That's one of the biggest lessons I learned that.. You give, give and give. You never know, but don't expect it. But nine times outta 10 it will come back to tenfold. Really, it's just one of the lessons I learned is that always give, and I will tell you that from different aspects, like I don't judge people based on their looks, how they talk, who they are, what they like. That's and that and that. None of that. I've noticed that you never know. You never know what kind of person they are. You never know. You cannot judge someone based on any other aspects. And that's the second thing I learned in practice. I've had patients where you never think of, they're amazing people. They don't look at maybe, but they're kind people. I have patients the other way. They look very kind of, you know, whatever that means. And they're terrible people and so, and. I don't judge people based on what they look what they're wearing, this and this. I've had patients that they look poor as you can be. Then they have a lot of money. They spent thousands of dollars. right with me. And I've had patients where they come in, blinked out here and there. They don't have a dime to their name, man. It's just, it's on a level. So that's, those are a couple things I learned right there. So, but always giving, it's always important. So then becoming back to that situation, that week happened, boom, they agreed to it. So we went through the process and I.. It was awesome. And I will tell you one of the biggest things. So then now I'm working at three places. I'm working at my office, I'm working at University of Maryland, and I'm working at the other chiropractic office. Cool. So we go another year or so and sometime passes it by. Everything goes well, and it is time for me to sort of move. But I'm scared to move on to fully go on my practice. I'm really scared, so I'm, I'm comfortable where I'm at and you know, comfort is a problem. When you're comfortable, that's when you need to change because once, when you get too comfortable, that's a problem. So I'm kind of going and. The other guy that worked for that was a year, an hour and a half away in Selmon Island. He contacts me, he goes, Hey, Reza, um, hey, why don't you come back, work for me? I said, Okay, but you gotta pay me like, you know, 130 K for me to come and I only want, and I only can work three days a week. He said, Okay. He told me we're talking, you know, this and that. We, we've met in person, we shook on it, and that's another lesson I learned. always have shit on paper, bro. Like, especially when some big contracts like this, people will screw you over. So coming back, um, so I resigned from my job and the guy was like, you know, he was ready to gimme a job. I hit him up. I said, Hey, you ready to, you know I'm ready to come over. He's like, Oh, re oh man, I wish I told you a little early. It's not a good time right now. I said, . I just quit my job, bro. What do you mean it's not a good time right now? He's like, Yeah, yeah, I can't. And then he just ghosted me and I was like, Oh my God. That day was one of the best and one of the worst days. because it was one of the worst days because it was scary at that point. I was counting on this job, I was so happy. 130 k, boom, boom, boom. That's a lot of money and it's just gonna, you know, and I only have to work three days a week, but, But one of the best days because that forced me to go to my own practice. That forced me to, it was like I got thrown in the ocean and uh, and I gotta sink or swim. And that sometimes is the best places to be at because when you are in a situation, we got sink swim, you're surviving, man, you wanna survive that, that thing in you comes out ready to fight. And I went into my business. and I was ready. And, um, so I started kind of going at it, What am I gonna do now? I'm full time by myself. I quit everything. The, the other guy, this and that. I still have University of Maryland, but, you know, um, for some unforeseen reasons, maybe because I, I don't know why. Okay. You guys can just guess by yourself. But they said that, Oh, the business was, you know, they sort of. Making the, the integrated medicine center a little bit smaller. So they let go of me after another six months or so after I quit. After I quit this job, they helped me get this job, get the University of Maryland job. They randomly shrunk. So whatever that is. So that's what the answers they gave me. And um, so now I was like, Man, I wish I could work at gw, but, and now there's. Angles to this situation. Now I have my home life, I have my practice, I have my, um, you know, Maryland job and I have the other guy I work for. But what you guys don't know from this angle is that from that $200 office. Now I'm gonna tell you a different story from that $200 office that I was at, I was kind of growing. I needed to go somewhere else. And so I'd go on Craig again. I found this. It was an old Mary Kay . It was a Mary Kay office. Walls are pink, everything like that. I was like, maybe I can rent something there. So I'm going there. I go into that. They gave me a room there. And um, anyway, long story short, it didn't work out at all because they have Mary Kay parties and I apparently just. Hit within my realm of work because I was there at night and they would have their parties at night and they would kick out my patients. And I was there. I'm driving from Solomon Island, this is right before I go work at the new, new boss I had with University of Maryland and stuff like that. So before it, while I was in Solomon Island, I was at Mary Kay. And, but the thing was, because it was a transition, I paid a rent for the O older. And the new Mary Kay office at the same time. So I still had access to both and so this happened twice where they just called my patient coming up. They're like, Yeah, they have a party. And I'm driving all the way from some Solomon hour and a half. I was like, Okay, well then let's go back to the old place. Oh, I gather everybody up. We go back to the old place. I can't believe my patients would come up, man. I went through, this is at like eight at night. people would go from here to the other office just to kind of be like, just for treatment. And that was one of the most amazing thing I think that patients, my patients back then, and even now, honestly, they ju, I mean, I'm genuine with everybody really. I mean, if you see me on camera, I'm the same person off camera. And I think that really helped people understand like, I'm real. And uh, my patient would just come with me to the other place. They didn't say nothing. They do nothing. And so I would go over there. This happened twice that pissed me off. So I told the Mary Kay people, I'm not coming back. So then I would go back to the old place. I'd say, Hey, let's. To renew the contract. But what happened was she's like, All right, let's just do month to month now. And I was like, Oh God, this guy's gonna kick me out, so now I gotta look for another place. I was like, I really need more, some, somewhere more stable, not making some money, you know? And this is Solomon Island, so this is before I was making six figures. Um, but I was making good money and, um, So I was like looking for a place. So I called my sister, my sis sister was in real estate, and I said, Hey, I need a place. What can we, can you buy a place for me and I'll rent it from you and this and that? Um, he's like, she said, No, you know what? I'd rather you get it yourself. I don't wanna be intertwined with the business and I'd rather you do it yourself. I was like, Okay, but how am I gonna, I don't have money like that to rent out a. For like $1,600 a month, this and that. She said, No. Um, let's see what's out there. She was like, Let's see what you can buy something. I was like, I don't even have any money. What do you want me to buy? She said, Let's see. She goes on Zillow as she finds this one place, small little office, 600 square feet, three rooms. Fantastic it, and, but the best part was it was sell by. What that means is that it's called balloon financing. For those who don't know about balloon financing, listen up, This is really important. This might help you cuz this by itself took me to the next level, this next stage of me going, getting the next boost. And so when I got, um, so I, I agreed to a term, a certain amount for this office. Um, we agreed about 5%. and the way balloon financing works is that the owners become the bank and I become the owner. So I'm responsible for any of the breaks. Like an owner, just like imagine you have a bank as your owner. The bank doesn't, something breaks, you gotta pay for it, you gotta do the, the taxes, you gotta pay for them. So I'm responsible for everything. The name of the, the property is under my personal.. And so if the business goes down and I can't pay for it, my, my credit goes down. I mean, it's attached to me personally. So I made a five year term with them, 5% down and 5% interest. So I'm supposed to pay them 5% interest based on the lumps of money that I owe them for up to five years. so that will help you guys. If you don't know about balloon finance, you wanna buy a place and your business doesn't have credit or you don't have, you can't get money from the bank and stuff like that because it's hard to get business loan. It's very difficult. They don't just give it out, especially for new businesses, they'll, they'll shut you down before you get started and. Or they try to get a lot of assets from me where you'd be like, All sign off on this, Know your house, your, your, your life insurance, this or this, this or this. And cuz I had to do that finally. And so basically what happens, the owner become the bank, I become the owner. I'm paying all the interest, all this da da da. And I have to pay 'em 5% every month. Um, so it all came out to thousand dollars thousand $50, 10. I was like, Okay, I can do that. You know, I have another job there. Something comes back this and that. I do. Um, so I was kind of excited. I signed off on it. Now I own a property. So one of my patients happened to work in the same building I was at, where the $200 a month it, the building was called the Miracle Building. God damn, it was a miracle I got outta that place too. And uh, so one of my patients worked at the Miracle Building. She owned a business there, and she, I said to her, Hey, by the way, I'm leaving. I'm going to Alexandria from Springfield where we're at. And she go, Oh man, I love Alexandria. I wish I could go there. This lady. Black lady, Super nice lady. And I said, Well, I mean if you want, I have three rooms there, I only need one. I work somewhere else. I'm not there Monday, Wednesday, Friday and I'm only there Tuesday, Thursdays and stuff like that. And Saturday she was like, Okay, that's possible. And you know, I'm Middle Eastern. We negotiate things so we usually like be like, okay. She was like, How much is rent? And I don't know, mine was 10 50. And I was expecting her to negotiate, so I said 1100, and she said, Oh, that's not bad. We can do that. I was like, Oh, snap. Wow. Yo, I just got caught up with, So let me get this right. I get to have an office for myself. I get to have the biggest room there, which was kind of cool. I, I had a waiting room. Now, now I had a waiting room. I get to not be kicked out of their left and. And I make 50 bucks., not only, I don't have to pay rent, but I make 50 bucks. That was awesome. That was one of the one. And so, so she moved in and, but, but before I tell you, she moved in, she actually backed up for a minute and I was just heartbroken, I'll tell you that that was, you know, but then she worked it out and she was able to, And so anyway, so she came in, It was all cool, everything was good. Super nice. She had a couple staff members. It actually made my office look a little bit more presentable cuz they were, they had more like stuff there kind of made it nice. And so we, we went along and, and on time goes by. This is a time where I also. At the University of Maryland for that other guy as well. So now I'm now transitioning. So there's a lot going on, a lot of missing pieces here where like a lot of tentacles I would say, where, you know, I'm doing this over here, I'm doing that over there and I'm doing this over here. And at the same time over here, I'm having a baby. I have my birth baby. There's a lot going on in my life. I have so much stuff going on. And, but that's how it is, man. You gotta, you gotta pay attention to a lot of different things when you're business owner, especially in the beginning. And then as things get better, then you start to, as soon as possible, you gotta have, you hire people to help you and kind of get everybody next level. And so at this point, I'm over here, I'm everywhere. Going back to Univers of Maryland. I go through that phase that I just told you and now I'm kind of growing out of my small little 600 foot office because those, those other people in there now I have two choices. Either I have to leave or I have to not resig their new contract and I kind of like them. They're really nice people. I don't wanna put 'em bad predicaments, so I'm just kinda looking around to see what I can do. The office next to. Where I'm at currently was for rent for months. I don't know if it was bad timing or so they couldn't give it to rent then, so because it was rent for months, then they put it for sale. I was like, Okay, I still don't have money, but I learned this new thing called balloon financing. From my current position. So I called them up. I was like, Well, when am I gonna lose? I say, Hey guys, I'm right here, 2 0 4 and um, I'm a chiropractor. I need a bigger office. And um, have you heard a balloon financing And then I was like, Yo, this is a long shot. Right? So they said they were interested in that because they were sort of d. So I called the, the number that was the office for sale and I said, Hey listen, I'll run next door. I actually own a property right here. So that actually gave me some credibility. They know I'm not BSing and I a bigger spot and I was interested in buying your location, but the thing is, I don't really have any money and I wanna buy balloon financing. And they said, , Actually, I'm gonna leave that for part three. So tune in for next week to learn what happened, on what they actually said and how it went about the process there. Till next song.
