Now, originally, a"},{"startTime":299.6,"endTime":303.24,"body":"few years ago, I went about setting up and building the ultimate digital"},{"startTime":303.24,"endTime":307.08000000000004,"body":"marketing course. And what I found was, while everybody told me"},{"startTime":307.08000000000004,"endTime":310.73,"body":"that they wanted something like that, when, when it came down to it, they"},{"startTime":310.73,"endTime":314.53000000000003,"body":"didn't need it. It was just too much. And it is a fantastic"},{"startTime":314.53000000000003,"endTime":317.65000000000003,"body":"course and it is available. If you look on my YouTube channel,"},{"startTime":317.65000000000003,"endTime":321.29,"body":"Mr. WebmarketingTube, you will find that course there. And"},{"startTime":321.29,"endTime":325.09000000000003,"body":"it's everything you wanted to know about SEO and digital marketing and all sorts"},{"startTime":325.09000000000003,"endTime":328.77000000000004,"body":"of elements about selling online. But people didn't"},{"startTime":328.77000000000004,"endTime":332.57000000000005,"body":"buy it. It was just too heavy, there was too much content. And"},{"startTime":332.57000000000005,"endTime":336.18,"body":"the worst part from my perspective is that I put so much"},{"startTime":336.18,"endTime":339.66,"body":"effort into building this thing, so much brain power, so much time"},{"startTime":339.98,"endTime":343.58000000000004,"body":"editing all those sorts of things, and I can do that myself. So I saved"},{"startTime":343.58000000000004,"endTime":346.34000000000003,"body":"a lot of money. If you paid someone else to do it, it would have"},{"startTime":346.34000000000003,"endTime":349.66,"body":"cost tens of thousands of dollars to complete this course."},{"startTime":349.82000000000005,"endTime":353.54,"body":"Minimally. So huge mistake, but a valuable"},{"startTime":353.54,"endTime":357.18,"body":"lesson most people don't get past. Most people don't get"},{"startTime":357.18,"endTime":360.90000000000003,"body":"past module three in large courses. And it's pretty well"},{"startTime":360.90000000000003,"endTime":364.19,"body":"the same when it comes to reading many books. They don't get past"},{"startTime":364.35,"endTime":368.07000000000005,"body":"chapter three because they get caught up. So I apply the"},{"startTime":368.07000000000005,"endTime":371.83000000000004,"body":"same theory when I write books now. I don't write them too heavy, around 120"},{"startTime":371.83000000000004,"endTime":375.55,"body":"pages so that people can finish them and learn all the information"},{"startTime":375.63,"endTime":379.10900000000004,"body":"that I've put in them. So if you're looking at doing a course, think very"},{"startTime":379.10900000000004,"endTime":382.83000000000004,"body":"carefully before you go down that row. Just start with some small courses and start"},{"startTime":382.83000000000004,"endTime":386.59000000000003,"body":"selling them. Build a market. Get people to know you for what"},{"startTime":386.59000000000003,"endTime":390.36,"body":"it is you do. The expert trap is one that"},{"startTime":390.36,"endTime":394.20000000000005,"body":"I think we should mention here. Most course creators overwhelm"},{"startTime":394.20000000000005,"endTime":397.92,"body":"learners because they try and teach them everything. You're"},{"startTime":397.92,"endTime":401.68,"body":"trying to set people up to see you as the only expert to"},{"startTime":401.68,"endTime":405.44,"body":"go to, but by giving them everything, they can't complete"},{"startTime":405.44,"endTime":408.8,"body":"it. You don't need to teach what's important,"},{"startTime":409.28000000000003,"endTime":412.84000000000003,"body":"you need to teach what sells. Remember,"},{"startTime":412.84000000000003,"endTime":416.40000000000003,"body":"people don't buy prevention, they buy cures. So sell"},{"startTime":416.64000000000004,"endTime":420.13,"body":"solutions. You're looking to solve those little problems"},{"startTime":420.45000000000005,"endTime":424.09000000000003,"body":"with little courses that are worth big money to"},{"startTime":424.09000000000003,"endTime":427.77000000000004,"body":"you because you can solve those problems. Micro courses"},{"startTime":427.77000000000004,"endTime":431.25,"body":"also let you test different ideas fast, without months of"},{"startTime":431.25,"endTime":434.73,"body":"filming. So if you come up with an idea and you think that you've got"},{"startTime":434.73,"endTime":438.45000000000005,"body":"the solution and the people will buy it, then you can actually put"},{"startTime":438.45000000000005,"endTime":442.13,"body":"that out there and see if people will pay money for it."},{"startTime":442.61,"endTime":446.37,"body":"Smaller specific topics sell better than general learn everything"},{"startTime":446.69,"endTime":450.27000000000004,"body":"courses. I don't know how many courses I've been through in my"},{"startTime":450.27000000000004,"endTime":453.87,"body":"life. A lot of them I suppose. But whenever I"},{"startTime":453.87,"endTime":457.63,"body":"felt overwhelmed when I'm studying, it's generally because people are trying"},{"startTime":457.63,"endTime":461.43,"body":"to cram too much information into too short a time. Now, I know"},{"startTime":461.43,"endTime":465.27000000000004,"body":"that you can be self paced online, but people are often trying to get"},{"startTime":465.27000000000004,"endTime":468.83000000000004,"body":"to an end so that they can solve a problem. And if"},{"startTime":468.83000000000004,"endTime":472.63,"body":"there's too much information going in There I know myself, I get overwhelmed and"},{"startTime":472.63,"endTime":476.31,"body":"I just give up and I try and find a different solution. And you"},{"startTime":476.31,"endTime":479.99,"body":"don't want that. You want to be seen as a solution. You want to"},{"startTime":479.99,"endTime":483.55,"body":"be seen as the one that they need to go to. Now, a lot of"},{"startTime":483.55,"endTime":487.39000000000004,"body":"people don't know this, but my background, I've had a few jobs along the"},{"startTime":487.39000000000004,"endTime":490.51000000000005,"body":"way. I did an apprenticeship as an electronics technician, but then I went back to"},{"startTime":490.51000000000005,"endTime":494.31,"body":"uni and I studied teaching for three years and got a Diploma of"},{"startTime":494.31,"endTime":497.99,"body":"Education and went on to complete my Bachelor of Education in Computer"},{"startTime":497.99,"endTime":501.71000000000004,"body":"Education. And finally I did a Master's in Curriculum"},{"startTime":501.71000000000004,"endTime":505.48,"body":"Studies with honours, which means that I studied writing"},{"startTime":505.48,"endTime":509.12,"body":"courses. Writing curriculum for people, that's my"},{"startTime":509.12,"endTime":512.8,"body":"specialist area. So more than anything, I understand about building"},{"startTime":512.8,"endTime":516.6,"body":"courses and yet even I've made mistakes along the way with"},{"startTime":516.6,"endTime":520.32,"body":"things like the ultimate course. This"},{"startTime":520.32,"endTime":524.16,"body":"is really important. Courses are great at building"},{"startTime":524.24,"endTime":527.44,"body":"authority, but you need to understand"},{"startTime":527.9200000000001,"endTime":530.87,"body":"that if you overwhelm people with content,"},{"startTime":531.35,"endTime":534.47,"body":"it's just not going to work for you. So take the time"},{"startTime":534.71,"endTime":538.51,"body":"niche down, look at micro courses and push them out"},{"startTime":538.51,"endTime":542.19,"body":"first. Eventually you can bundle them all together and actually make them into"},{"startTime":542.19,"endTime":544.95,"body":"the ultimate course. Online content spreads faster"},{"startTime":572.669,"endTime":576.35,"body":"than word of mouth, so the referrals you get from those"},{"startTime":576.35,"endTime":580.07,"body":"micro courses from people saying how good they are, is going to"},{"startTime":580.07,"endTime":583.72,"body":"build your business very quickly. Speaking gigs will"},{"startTime":583.72,"endTime":587.5600000000001,"body":"also become easier to land when you've got a course to back it up."},{"startTime":587.88,"endTime":591.52,"body":"Because people have tried your course, they see how good you are and they take"},{"startTime":591.52,"endTime":595.08,"body":"the opportunity to then get you in to speak to their people."},{"startTime":595.88,"endTime":599.72,"body":"You become the go to expert in your niche, even if"},{"startTime":599.72,"endTime":603.32,"body":"no one knew you before. There's many times in my"},{"startTime":603.32,"endTime":607.08,"body":"business where I have had a course, people have tried"},{"startTime":607.08,"endTime":610.84,"body":"the course and then they've hired me to come and speak at an engagement"},{"startTime":610.84,"endTime":614.08,"body":"for their people. And this has happened time and time again."},{"startTime":614.48,"endTime":618.16,"body":"Having someone sit and do your course exposes them"},{"startTime":618.16,"endTime":621.96,"body":"to you in a way that they don't normally get.
