Advice to CEOs: if you have a head of HR or TA who you do not see as a business partner, replace them with someone who you do trust as a business partner.

In episode 2 of Season 2, host Jeff Lackey welcomes Ron Patrick, former head of recruitment for the CIA.

Ron Patrick had an unconventional career path, starting off as a Catholic priest before transitioning to a drug abuse counselor and eventually an intelligence officer for the government. He got the job after getting the right answer to a Trivial Pursuit question at a picnic with government employees. After that, the head of HR asked him to join the team.

Ron Patrick also served as the former CHRO of Tendergrass, a small successful company where he was able to recruit and grow his own team. Once he joined, he quickly realized the strain the current employees were under, working 16-18 hours a day. He began assessing the company, understanding the business, and determining what needed to be done to grow sustainably. In 8 months, he more than doubled the company from 8 employees to 20, creating a mix of skills that was critical for the company's growth.
