Ghostwriter Ruby Peru talks with me about her true crime-inspired novel with homicide Detective-Commander Herman Hinton from Birmingham, Alabama, who commanded over 500 death investigations and initiated the Birmingham police department’s “Cold Case Unit.” During this time, he mentored retired Detective Christopher Anderson, the lead detective in the A & E crime series Reasonable Doubt.
