Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis

WWE Hall of Famer TEDDY LONG addresses the loss of his son.

Mac Davis and WWE Hall of FamerTeddy Long

The wrestling world stands united through triumph and tragedy in this deeply personal episode of Wrestling's Road Trip After Hours. Mac Davis and Teddy Long begin by previewing Saturday Night's Main Event, dissecting the potential outcomes for Drew McIntyre versus Randy Orton, Seth Rollins facing LA Knight, and the heavyweight championship showdown between Gunther and Goldberg. Their seasoned analysis reveals why Goldberg's "final match" might not be so final if championship gold enters the equation.

The conversation takes a poignant turn when Teddy addresses the recent passing of his son Antoine. With remarkable grace, he acknowledges the wrestling community's outpouring of support, specifically naming Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, Mark Henry, Bruce Prichard, and others who reached out during this difficult time. "When people do stuff like this, they don't have to," Teddy reflects. "That lets me know you ain't faking. You're real."

Through fan questions, listeners gain rare insights into wrestling's golden era. Teddy recalls his first meeting with Vince McMahon in 1998, shares what made working with Vickie Guerrero special, and reveals surprising friendships with stars like Rick Rude. The hosts explore the creative differences between wrestling then and now, with Mac noting, "When Vince was there in WWE, it seemed like there was more creativity and fun things that happened. Today that does not exist, at least not for me."

Whether discussing the roughest bump Teddy ever took (courtesy of Big Show), his approach to not dating talent ("You don't mix business with pleasure"), or humorous stories about fans who couldn't separate kayfabe from reality, this episode beautifully balances wrestling analysis with genuine human connection. Join these wrestling veterans as they remind us why the bonds formed through this unique industry endure through life's most challenging moments.

Speaker 1:

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, we'll be right back. Hello everybody, welcome to an all-new edition of Wrestling's Road Trip After Hours. I'm your host, mac Davis, and, of course, my tag team partner. Every single week is none. In fact, this show wouldn't exist if teddy and I hadn't gotten together and said you know what? This might be a lot of fun.

Speaker 2:

And teddy here don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't. Blame that on me. I was not the one that did that. Okay, and then you're talking about your tag team partner. I don't want to tag with you. You never want to tag in. I got. Every time I try to tag you, this is what you give me.

Speaker 1:

You snatch right back well, yeah, of course, I'm a heel well, of course how did I not know that? Well, you should know that you ride with me enough yeah I don't know how the weather is where you are in atlanta right now. Have you had any rough weather lately over there?

Speaker 2:

well, not where I'm at. I'm around san diego springs. We just had a little bit of rain and that's about it for the day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we've had a lot of storms just blowing through here that we didn't even expect to come through and I know there's a lot of places where the weather has been crazy. So if you're in one of those places and they tell you something about the weather and they tell you to get in the middle closet or somewhere in your house, you something about the weather and they tell you to get in a, you know, a middle closet or somewhere in your house, listen to what they're telling you, because the damage these storms have been making lately, including the flooding, has just been incredible and the amount of people who we've lost a lot of children even from those floods. So, uh, pay attention to what those weathermen say out there and get out of the harm's way, if at all. Teddy, yes, this weekend is a big weekend for WWE and that's because we have Saturday night's main event.

Speaker 1:

Now, as far as I know, three matches for sure and one match. I think that's still possible. I want to go over these with you before we get into the mailbag and everybody's questions here. Just get your feel for what you think might happen Saturday night live on NBC. The first match I'll bring up is Drew McIntyre versus Randy Orton. What do you see happening in this match, teddy?

Speaker 2:

Well, I don't know, man, these are two tough competitors. Both these guys are really absolutely great in the ring and I mean you're going to get your money's worth when you watch these two, but uh, for the outcome, you know I, you know I, I, we just don't know. But I'd have to go with randy orton I I wonder if randy's um.

Speaker 1:

Maybe you know they brought drew mcintyre back just recently on a uh, on a wwe show. I can't remember if it was smackdown or if it was raw um, but when he back, the first thing they did is lay him out in the ring. He's been gone for a while and and he takes I think it may have been an RKO from Randy Orton, as a matter of fact, and he just laid out in the ring on his first night back after so long. I I wonder if maybe that's not a setup for Drew McIntyre to come back, because you know how they book now, it's 50-50 most times. If he got dropped by Randy, chances are that Drew may do something to Randy at Saturday night's main event. Would that be fair to say no, no, all right, here's another one. Now, this one, I think everybody knows where it's going to go Seth Rollins versus LA Knight. What do you think?

Speaker 2:

Oh God, I like LA Knight too. La Knight is my man. He really does a lot of good stuff. I'm really impressed with him. You would think maybe Seth would be the guy to take this thing, but between these two you might get a surprise.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I really kind of wonder what may happen, because LA Knight, he is a fan favorite. Seth Rollins, he's Seth Rollins and you know I think everybody expects him. Yeah, that's just all you can say. Now here's the one that everybody's tuning in for Gunther versus Goldberg for the heavyweight championship. Do you see? Now they say this is Goldberg's last match, but he's in a heavyweight championship match. If he wins, it can't be his last match, unless he just drops the title, which wouldn't make any real sense, or we might get a short run out of Goldberg. What do you think?

Speaker 2:

well, I think what you just said at the end there, if he does, uh, win you know what I mean comes out on top, then, like you said, I think they'll get a little bit of a run out of goldberg. I think he'll be around for a while. So I think to say that this is his last match puts a lot on it. You know, people, I mean that that kind of gives me a little concern too. Said well if you, well, if you come back, you know, and just for one match, you know why would you do that? You know. But I did hear that he really wanted to come back for his kid. His son has grown up a little bit now and he just wanted to do something, you know, for his kid or something. So I don't know, man. But then there's the other thing too by the kid being big enough now to be part of it, they may use the kid there somewhere.

Speaker 1:

And when we say kid, keep in mind we are aware that this kid's in college and he's playing football, so he's not that same little kid that we remember the last time we saw him on.

Speaker 2:

TV. That's right. That's what I was saying. Now that he's able to be a part of it, he may get involved.

Speaker 1:

There were some other guys. I think uh stings boys, or at least one of them, uh had some interest in wrestling. Um, you got rick steiner and uh scott steiner's you know nephew and son, uh in braun, and who else we got? We got a lot of up-and-coming older names that are coming back with their kids now all at the same time, which is actually pretty cool because they can really do something with that if they really get these guys ready, much like what we saw in the Ruthless Aggression era, maybe when we started getting Triple H with Randy Orton, batista, ric Flair it was Evolution was the name of the group, and I think we can see another one of those kind of scenarios come back around again, because some of these names are really interesting that are out there just kind of bubbling around.

Speaker 1:

All right, here's one last match. Now, this is one that I think may happen, but it's not on the card yet. There is a possibility, though and keep in mind this is in Atlanta, georgia, both home bases for goldberg and uh aj styles and they say aj styles may still end up getting a match with the uh injured. Dominic mysterio, uh, if we're in atlanta and this is aj's place, do you see, aj winning this match well, let me tell you something.

Speaker 2:

That used to be a time back in the day, you know, when a guy was in his hometown. You know that they put him over. Well, vince, quit doing that. Okay, guy in his hometown, vince would beat him. Yeah, he'd embarrass him sometimes, yeah, right. So, like I said, vince, I love him to death, you know, and I wish he was still there, but he's not there. So there may be a change in that, but that's kind of what it looks like Anytime a guy's in his hometown. Maybe they want to do it for the Atlanta crowd or whatever. You know what I mean, but Vince didn't look at it like that, because that's just one night. What are we going to do tomorrow night? Right, all right.

Speaker 1:

Teddy, we're going to step away real quick and be right back. We're going to get in the mailbag and, by the way, if you want to be a part of the show, it doesn't cost you a penny. All you got to do is leave your comments or, you know, your questions for Teddy on the comment section. We'll bring it up on the screen and get on the show. And is that what you're drinking there?

Speaker 2:

Orange juice Orange juice yes.

Speaker 1:

Man, that looks good. I love orange juice. I'm one of those cats that when I get up in the morning I don't want anything, but I do want a glass of juice.

Speaker 2:

That's the one thing I require when I get up in the morning, that orange juice in the fritter in the morning. It is outstandingly cold.

Speaker 1:

Man, what a great drink you know what somebody brought to me the other day and I haven't had one of these in a long time in a glass bottle, a yoo-hoo. Oh man, that sounded so good because you can pick them some of the guns in the freezer and get them kind of where they get ice crystals in it. Yeah, yeah, oh, that's so good on a hot summer day to have that Yoo-Hoo. Oh man, I'm going to have to go buy a damn Yoo-Hoo after this is over with.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, sure.

Speaker 1:

We'll be right back Letters.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we get letters.

Speaker 1:

We get your letters every day. Mailman, mailman, mail today. Reach right in and pull one out.

Speaker 2:

Oh, letters, I love those letters.

Speaker 1:

Let's find out what you've got to say. Mailman mail today. You gotta love those road trip after hours singers. They do a great job on that mailbag stuff. They're horrible. They're just horrible. Look, I don't want anybody to think that's watching right now that we're ignoring, uh, something that's happened recently and I think we need to address that before we get into the letters here. Uh, teddy I, I I'll let you take it from here.

Speaker 2:

Go ahead, brother well, uh, basically, I guess, uh, what max want to talk about is the passing of my son, antoine. He passed, I believe, last Thursday. We found him prior day. He was in his home and he was unresponsive. So basically I'm waiting on the autopsy to let us kind of know what really happened. And he was laying on his bed, still had his clothes on and everything, and one of his friends came there and found him in the house. So we're just waiting to see what happened.

Speaker 2:

And a lot of people acknowledge that and text me and stuff from the WWE and I want to say those names now too, so to let them know how much I appreciate it. And Mark Henry was one of them, bruce Prichard, michael Hayes, the Godfather, eric Bischoff, natalia Ron Simmons, jbl and Stephanie McMahon she reached out and she spoke on behalf of her and Triple H, you know, and gave me their condolences. So thank you so much, stephanie. And I also want to acknowledge Herb Simmons, you know, another guy that I want to let people know.

Speaker 2:

When people do stuff like this, they don't have to. So anytime they do this, then that lets me know. You know you ain't faking you real, you know, and they really do care. So these people that I mentioned have shown me that they do care. So, you know, like I said we, nothing we can do is God's call. So, uh, I just want to thank everybody. If I didn't get a chance to thank you or if I didn't, you know, for some of the people that came on Facebook and Instagram and all that, I may not be able to meet you, so, but thank you so very much, thank everybody for you know, for coming out and thinking about Antoine.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I know, nick Patrick. Um, uh, yeah, thank you. Thank you, man Robert.

Speaker 2:

Gibson too, right, robert? Yeah, man, god at least.

Speaker 1:

When that happened, you know, a lot of people didn't want to bother you, so they started reaching out to me and I started talking to a lot of them and I got to point one thing out. I don't think you've even noticed this, but when I posted that news, that news was not posted by Teddy or myself. Somebody else found out that news was not posted by Teddy or myself.

Speaker 2:

Somebody else found out that was a site called Wrestle-ish.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and they put it out there and it was something that we had to jump on almost immediately as soon as I saw it, because I wanted people to know that we're not trying to ignore anybody. But at that point we don't know if all the family knows the news yet and it came out a little bit early.

Speaker 2:

And the main thing is, I didn't give them permission no, no, they never contacted me. You know, it's really strange. I'm really not angry at them. I mean, what they did put out was nice. I appreciate that. Thank you so much. But it must, they must have a little bit of guilt or somewhere, because now I don't see them no more on instagram. That's why, you know, I guess they must have quit following me or something. So I don't know.

Speaker 1:

But, like I said, I was going to tell you, teddy, the one thing that when I did post that, there were over 10, this was yesterday, so I haven't checked it today Over 10,000 people reaching out telling you, uh, condolences and prayers to the family. Um and uh, I was driving Teddy crazy. My wife kept telling me you need to check on him again. You need to check on him. Teddy's like just tell her I said, leave me alone. But yeah, man, we, we're sorry about that, teddy, and no parent should ever have to go through that.

Speaker 1:

So I just want to throw that out there before we got into the questions, because I know a lot of people may want to say something and we just wanted to address it before we got underway well, I, you know, like I said, I really hadn't talked about it myself on my Facebook or anything.

Speaker 2:

I said I'll wait tonight until we do it on our live show. So if anybody want to question or say anything about it, I'm here to answer your questions or whatever you, whatever you need from me all right, let's see, let's get into these.

Speaker 1:

We do have a bunch of people waiting in the chat, so let's get these up here. Zach in the room. Happy Thursday, mac and Teddy. What?

Speaker 2:

are you talking about Zach? You act like it's Thanksgiving or something. Happy Thursday. What do we need now? Turkey.

Speaker 1:

That sounds good though, doesn't it? Good, deep-fried turkey, pretty classy lady. Hey, good to have you in the room again tonight. Thank you pretty lady Zach Minger. Nice T-shirt, teddy. What T-shirt are you wearing on right now?

Speaker 2:

I've got the hold on a minute player. Hold on a minute player. All right, let's see what else we got.

Speaker 1:

We got Macy or Mace. I hope I got your furious. I hope I got it right.

Speaker 2:

Teddy, I'm doing good man, Appreciate you checking in on me.

Speaker 1:

That's a muscle or something, I believe, but I'm doing great Plot twist Jones, mac, if I downloaded the Sportskeeda app, is your show with Teddy and Dutch on it? Yes, you know, I asked that question today. If you subscribe and become a member on the WrestleBinge or Sportskeeda page, that's part of what you'll get. You'll get the full shows, not just the clips, which you'll get the full show, and a lot of people have been asking that. I noticed in the last few weeks we've had a lot of people inquire about that. So, you know, go to Sportskeeda, become a member and pull up all the podcasts that you want and cause there's a bunch of them there. All right, let's see what else we got. We have Michael. We got, uh. We have, uh, michael. Hey, teddy, sorry to hear about.

Speaker 2:

Uh, antoine, uh, why, why were you never gm of raw?

Speaker 1:

I'm sorry, uh, that name is antonio okay mac, no, I saw that, but he said sorry to hear about antonio, but uh, yeah, no, yeah, you're right.

Speaker 2:

I thought okay, my bad, that's okay.

Speaker 1:

That's okay. Hey look, you wouldn't be telling me if you didn't give me shit.

Speaker 2:

I have been GM of Raw. Before I was GM of Raw and ECW and SmackDown all three of them.

Speaker 1:

You were actually. You debuted as a general manager on Raw, didn't you?

Speaker 2:

Yes, and I did it, but not full-time. Maybe that's what the guy's talking about. I wasn't there full-time, but there was a special occasion that I was put in a position to be general manager of Raw that night, yep.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's see Pretty classy lady saying sending my condolences. Teddy, very sorry to hear about your loss.

Speaker 2:

Thank you very much.

Speaker 1:

Let's see Plot Twist Jones. He's also saying he's sorry for the loss and I knew we'd get some of these to the final signal, praying for you, my brother in Christ, Thank you. And let's see, this is what happened on on the Facebook and Instagram and everything. And the other day, just everybody, I mean the sympathy that came out. Hey, Teddy, sorry for your loss. That's out. Hey, teddy, sorry for you lost that. Some zach uh pod twist jones saying whether he, and he's right too.

Speaker 2:

Sometimes the dirt sheets are sickening, yeah, because they all lie. They're just like you know, just to get people to read them, or. But the name of the game now is numbers, and they'll do anything social media, whatever for numbers. So that's why it's just bad that somebody will even take the, you know, play with the dead, you know know what I mean To get numbers, so, but that's the way the world is. So that's why you know it doesn't bother me, yep.

Speaker 1:

Michael, saying my condolences and love you, Teddy.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, Michael.

Speaker 1:

Let's see. Also, we have the final single saying holla at me, player, if you need anything, herb Simmons popping into the room as well. Now, good to see you, herb. Uh, good evening gentlemen. Glad to see you guys. Hope you're doing okay, teddy and you.

Speaker 2:

You had to be. You're not able to see herb now because herb has lost that weight and he's got himself in so tremendous shape. Man to you know, you just don't know who you're looking at right now. That's her playboy simmons.

Speaker 1:

I kind of like that name Herb Playboy Simmons, that's got a read through it there. Ralph Cutt, Rick Ruby. Hey, Rick, good to see you. Good evening, Mac. And Teddy. Yeah, good to see you. I think we have another one in here. Teddy, have you ever made a tag team match against the Undertaker?

Speaker 2:

Why are you going to do that? The Undertaker is a single.

Speaker 1:

Was there ever a time and that's a good question Actually, you never. You never said no, I know what he's saying.

Speaker 2:

It wasn't ever a time that Undertaker tagged with somebody and then I put them in a tag team match. Yeah, yeah, well, I don't remember doing that. If I'd have done that, it probably wouldn't have been anybody but Kane. I don't really think I ever seen Taker tag with anybody.

Speaker 1:

Did you ever go against Undertaker, or was he always? I mean I, I know that he, you know he did a lot of things to you, but did you ever go after Taker on screen? I mean trying to bury him or anything like that.

Speaker 2:

No, you can't bury the Undertaker.

Speaker 1:

Well, no, I know that storyline was. I wonder if you could.

Speaker 2:

No, well, we tried to. Vince tried to do something one time. You know where he was trying to get me to turn on taker. You know he, he tried that and we talked about a little bit doing the promos and stuff, you know, and he said to me well, you know, taker's gonna get you, yeah, yeah I still.

Speaker 1:

my favorite line is buckle up, teddy, let let's see. We got Ron in Memphis asking do you remember your very first conversation with Vince McMahon?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I do. The first time I met him is I went there in 98 and I started refereeing and one night he was going to the Gorilla Summit. He looked and he spotted me and he stopped and he saw me and he came over and he shook my hand and welcomed me into the WWF. That's what it was then and me and him talked a little bit and that was it. That was the first conversation. But after that I became gm and kind of, you know, got real, you know kind of close with him a little bit. There we had a chance to talk a lot of time but I didn't bother him unless he wanted to be bothered. You know I wasn't one of those guys running up to him every time I read how'd you like my match, vince I? You know all that.

Speaker 1:

I wasn't that guy how often would you say you would see vince, I mean, and actually speak to him? Was it not as much as people would think?

Speaker 2:

Well, you see him every day, you know. But I mean, my thing was with Vince. You know TV, you know. You had to learn when to speak to Vince you know what I mean. Sometimes you know it's best to let Vince speak to you, and that's what I would do. I would wait and see what kind of you know. Where are you doing that player? You know so that let me know. All right, I can talk to him today, all right let's see, we got another one in the chat here.

Speaker 1:

Rough cut rick uh saying hey, dirt sheets are the devil. That's why on falls count everywhere. Nice plug we focus on the facts and storylines yeah, nice plug gotcha hey look, uh, seriously though.

Speaker 1:

Uh, just just so we can make people understand. When we were talking about earlier, about you know, we appreciate all the love and support that was shown to Teddy from you know all the various sites. It was just in the very beginning, it was kind of early and it should have come straight from Teddy or the family, not from a dirt sheet. That's all we're saying.

Speaker 2:

And that site was Russell-ish. That's who they were.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's see we also have it's slow getting up here tonight. The final signal, teddy I watched your videos from 2014 when you were the GM on SmackDown. You had the best matches put together and I love the old Vince McMahon era day.

Speaker 2:

I miss it. I miss it too, man, and I certainly miss Vince.

Speaker 1:

And you know, teddy, we were on Sportskeeda the other night and you and I were playfully going back and forth to each other, but those are the kind of things that I miss. You know, when Vince was there in WWE, it seemed like there was a lot more creativity and fun things that happened. It wasn't just wrestling, it was. He would produce a show that you wanted to see what would happen next. Today that does not exist, at least not for me. In wrestling, I'm not so glued to the TV like I was back then.

Speaker 2:

Do you feel like there's a need to bring back some of those things that we used to do to make the product better. Well, you know, what can you really say? You know, sometimes that may be a good thing and then in another way, it may be a bad thing. You know, what makes the product better is the persons that are out there in the ring that make you believe and make you believe in what they just did and what they just said. That's what makes the product better when you make the people believe that what, what has happened with you, is real.

Speaker 1:

But we don't see the days anymore Like the Vince McMahon limousine blowing up. You don't see that type of TV anymore. You know that. I think that may have been a Vince thing. I think Vince understood that there had to be more than just the middle of the building where the ring is, that there's more to the story and more you can do. That's why he would go out. He'd take Brad Shaw and Jay I mean Ron out to the bars and tear up bars everywhere. You would see people on the top of bridges chunking belts out know belts out into the you know the ocean. That's real.

Speaker 2:

That's what I feel like is missing today.

Speaker 1:

I think that's what they need to tweak back into the show to make it entertaining. Hell, you know that's just me. What do I know? All right, let's see. Not much.

Speaker 2:

You're like me. That's me, Matt. What do I know?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, michael, hey Teddy. What was it like working with Vicky Guerrero?

Speaker 2:

Vicky Guerrero was a sweetheart. I love to work with her and had such great times with Vicky and a lot of stuff that Vicky did to me. I told her to do those things, you know, because we had to come up with stuff to do and she was like Ted, are you sure? I said yeah, yeah, but working with her was just absolutely great.

Speaker 1:

Man Like I said she's a sweetheart. All right, let's see.

Speaker 2:

Aaron on Facebook. What was your go-to snack for road trips back in?

Speaker 1:

the day.

Speaker 2:

Oh God, back in the day I ate pretty good. Like I said, when you're on the road you know you can eat really decent. So I'd be. Basically we'd stop at some hamburger joint and before they closed up or something and get some food to ride with. But I always get, uh, if I got a hamburger, I just get one piece of bread and I take the meat, and that was it. That's why I'd get three burgers. I got three pieces of bread and three uh, three, uh patties I can see.

Speaker 1:

Uh, chris wants to know who was the nicest and friendliest wrestler you've ever come across, male and female, by the way oh god, man, the guy who would be golly man.

Speaker 2:

There's so many guys that were just so extremely like Rick Rude was a really nice guy, man, really. Oh yeah, man, and I know you think that's hard to believe now. Yeah, but I rode with him and it was. You know, I swear to God I'd rather ride with him than some of the boys. You know what I mean. And he was real nice to get along with. Some of the ladies I worked with, like Vicky she was great Tori Wilson, golly, jackie Moore she was good to work with. Trish, stratus, lita All those girls were real nice, had great attitudes and they were great to work with.

Speaker 1:

It's funny because you brought up a couple of names. This isn't the next question that I got here that is from Hank, who's asking date, marry or kick to the curb or just friends? Let's put it that way. There's none of these women you would kick to the curb.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, there's some of them. You'd kick to the curb.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I don't think in this group you'll find one, though, but here we go. Now you've got three ladies that I'm going to give you, and this is the ones you've got to figure out. Which one are you going to marry, which one are you going to just date? You know what I mean? Or just be friends? Here are your names.

Speaker 2:

Rhea Ripley, trish Stratus and Miss Jackie. Well, I know already where I stand with Miss Jackie, okay, so I love you. Jackie, see, there you go. I appreciate that. Now, there you go. You should ask you that question. Oh my, God. So I wouldn't marry none of them, but just to have fun and be Trish Stratus. So Rhea Ripley would just be a friend. Just be a friend. Yeah, I don't blame you, wouldn't marry none of them, but just they'd have fun and drop it.

Speaker 1:

Beatrice gratis, and what about? So rhea ripley would just be a friend yes, be a friend yeah, I don't blame you. She's got a boyfriend that would kill you otherwise that's what I'm saying, all right, let's see.

Speaker 1:

Uh, we do. Uh, I think we got somebody else on here. Let's see plot twist. Jones, teddy, did you work with freddie? Uh, friends junior, yes, why do you think he left? Because he seems to really love wrestling. He was, or did, open his own company. I don't think it's still open anymore, but tell you, how was it working with him?

Speaker 2:

It was nice. He wrote some of my stuff that I did. Yeah, he was a real nice guy too. He had a great attitude, I think I don't know, but I just think he couldn't take Vince. You know, you know Vince didn't play man. That man was strictly business, you know, and you didn't have thick skin and you, you, you, you can't take this. You, you got to be a man there. So that might've been. You know about him coming from Hollywood with all that, with his father and all this, you know that background, following them around. You know he probably felt like he didn't have to. You know, put up with that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Rough cut Rick saying hey. Teddy, during your tenure as manager in WCW, can you remember the roughest bump you ever took and who gave it to you?

Speaker 2:

I think the roughest bump I ever took. It was Big Show. And when I first started working there, I was refereeing and Big Show grabbed me and he didn't tell me and he went to throw me out. I was refereeing and Big Show grabbed me and he didn't tell me and he went to throw me out on the floor. And when he grabbed me and threw me so quick he didn't give me time to catch the second rope there, to grab that rope and break my fall. So I went straight on through and I'll never forget that's the night I walked back in Gorilla and Vince stopped me and told me he said don't you ever let anybody else do that to you?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'd love to know from Big Show if we ever get him on, to see if he ever caught hell about that from Vince when he came through the curtain. I'd be curious.

Speaker 2:

I don't know whether he did or not, I don't remember. I think after Vince said that to me, I walked on, I believe.

Speaker 1:

Joseph, any fond memories or stories from Houston wrestling? I was born in 85, so I missed the heyday, but love the stories. Hower at you and Rufus and the Mag Daddy. With love from H-Town.

Speaker 2:

Well, I love you man over in H-Town Houston Wrestling. Only time I really worked in Houston is when the WWE went there, you know for a TV or a live event. So I enjoyed Houston. It was a great time. I enjoy going there all the time. In fact, after I started going there, I ended up meeting one of the rappers there, a guy called Little Flip, and so I was able to get on some videos with Little Flip, on some rap videos, and do a lot of stuff there with him. So Houston was a nice town.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's see. We have Denise Riley. Oh, hey, she's saying tell Teddy, I'm watching. I think he can see now that you're watching, and let's see Joey77. Hey, teddy, I watched your wedding in WWE. I thought that wedding was one of the best ever. How was it doing the wedding?

Speaker 2:

Well, let me tell you something. I'm so glad that this question came right after Denise said she was watching us.

Speaker 1:

Denise is a very special lady.

Speaker 2:

Yes, she's a very special lady. Yes, she's a very special lady. And the only thing I can remember about that wedding is there was somebody there that came to me and told me they hated it, and I was trying to explain to them. This is not real, I don't care, I don't care. And then I would say, well, no, you don't understand. And the next thing I hear I'd have killed that bitch, teddy. I swear it's a true story, you couldn't smarten her up.

Speaker 1:

No, no, just wasn't going to happen.

Speaker 2:

No, no, no. I kept telling her. I said this is not real, I don't care. I don't care.

Speaker 1:

Good thing you didn't have one of those shower scenes with one of the girls, like they used to do back in the day.

Speaker 2:

Oh, don't say that, because she's still watching.

Speaker 1:

I'm still waiting. By the way, I went out and had some banana pudding. Today. I found some banana pudding in the store because I haven't had any real homemade banana pudding.

Speaker 2:

I don't care where you got it. I don't care where you got it from. It ain't Denise's banana pudding I I had. I don't care where you got it. I don't care where you got it from, it ain't denise's banana.

Speaker 1:

Let's see we also have, uh, the final signal. Say my last condolences. May your son, may your son, rest in the arms of jesus. Thank you all right, uh, we got uh one more question now. We got time in here. We're actually a little bit over, but that's okay here. It's just one more question here, teddy. Uh, quentin, did you ever date what I hope denise keep watching. I didn't see this. Did you ever date any of the female talent in wcw or wwe?

Speaker 2:

no, that that yeah, a lot of guys did that, though a lot of guys, you know, like austin, you know, I think, uh, he met his wife, that I believe that when he first got married, you know I didn't never do that because that see, always I come from the old school and that's something you don't do. You don't mix business with pleasure and pleasantly, you don't date the women that own your job. So I, like I said I'm from the old school.

Speaker 1:

No, I never did that did that, thank God for ring rats, okay. Oh, wow, you done put over the ring rats. What, what? I didn't say that I didn't know. You knew anything about any ring rats? I don't know anything about ring rats, brother. Oh sure you don't. All right, you got to pick one of these questions for tonight to be the t-shirt winner this week. Who's it going to be?

Speaker 2:

Well, it'll be the person that wanted to know had I ever put Undertaker in a tag team match?

Speaker 1:

All right, let me see I got to go back and see if I can find that real quick. Why don't you tell everybody, teddy, anything that's coming up for you that we need to talk about?

Speaker 2:

No, I'm going to be taking it easy here the rest of July. We got some stuff coming up. In August I'll be talking more about that. I'm going to be up in Bellevue, Michigan, Going to be at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Going to be over in Albany, New York, I think August the 5th over there for Immortal Championship Wrestling. I'm doing something with them getting some type of an award. So quite a few things are going to be happening in August, but with what's been happening, you know, with my son and everything. So this this month here I'm just going to, you know, just kind of take it easy and get everything done.

Speaker 1:

Understandable. All right, plot twist Jones. That is our winner this week of the road trip after hours t-shirt. If you will just shoot me some information and we'll make sure that you get that T-shirt. Teddy, I'm out of here. I hope you have a good evening and tell Rufus I said hello, wherever he may be.

Speaker 2:

Where is he, rufus? Let's see if we can get him before we go out. Rufus.

Speaker 1:

Rufus. Let me tell you I've met Rufus again for the first time since he was just a little puppy and his head's bigger than Teddy's head. Now Teddy's got a peanut head, but his dog, he's got a head on him. Anybody that ever thinks they're going to walk up on Teddy with that dog around, good luck, you'll get eaten alive.

Speaker 2:

You've got a cantaloupe head.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I do have a cantaloupe head. It's got a little fuzz growing on it, maybe mold or something. Let me tell you, rufus is, he's know what he's doing now. He knows I'm calling him and wants him. He ain't gonna come. No, he's not wait. Mostly a pretty classy lady, mac. I thought you had on a sling for your back, uh, but no, uh actually.

Speaker 2:

Uh, you're right, pretty glad he's working it, he's, he's, he's working the gimmick brother, believe me yeah, I got a few more days of having to wear this sling.

Speaker 1:

I had a shoulder, tricep and bicep surgery done a couple weeks ago, and so I'm looking forward to getting out of this damn sling. I already told Teddy. I told you the other night I don't even know why I'm wearing it, because I'm moving it around like I shouldn't be, but it doesn't hurt, that's probably a good thing you got to take it easy, man, don't get in a hurry.

Speaker 1:

No, no, because, like I told you, I got to go. Once I get out of here, I'm going to get back in that gym and hit it hard like I used to and see what kind of shape I can get back in at my age. So all right, let's see. Is there anything else? I hate cutting anybody off.

Speaker 2:

Michael. Hey, teddy, what was it like working with Drew McIntyre, great guy. I had a great time with Drew. He probably remembers when Drew was the one that Vince, he was the chosen one and he had me on my knees and he went to the thing where I told him this too. I said, well, he said what can we do? I said I tell you what you do. Everybody loves their grandkids. I said so use that. I said I'll go to walk out of the ring and you hit me with what are your grandkids going to think of you? Then I'll stop and I'll pause and then I'll turn and then I'll look at you. But now you know you got me.

Speaker 1:

All right, guys, we're out of here. We hope that you'll come back and see us again next week. Thank you so much for being a part of the show this week and all the nice comments for Teddy and his loss, and thank you everybody. Yeah, it really does mean a lot. We'll see you back here next Thursday night, same time, same place, seven o'clock Eastern. On YouTube and on Facebook. See you again next week.

Speaker 2:

All out of play.
