Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
When a Duck Walks into a Wrestling Podcast...
Thunder rumbles outside, but inside the virtual studio of Road Trip After Hours, the wrestling talk crackles with electricity as Mac Davis and WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long settle in for another engaging episode. The pair kicks things off with SummerSlam predictions, offering expert analysis on the most anticipated matchups of WWE's summer spectacle.
Teddy doesn't hold back his admiration for performers like Jade Cargill, who he believes will dethrone Tiffany Stratton, and Jelly Roll, who's been diligently training at NXT to prepare for his in-ring debut. When discussing Gunther versus CM Punk, Teddy provides fascinating insight into character development: "I don't think Gunther needs the belt to impress anybody. You can look at him—he's got a look that scares you." This sparks a broader conversation about how championships enhance certain wrestlers while others command presence regardless of title status.
The mailbag segment unveils remarkable stories from Teddy's storied career, including his surprising revelation about WWE performance venues: "When I was in WWE, we were in Fort Worth, Texas, and that's where we was in a barn. There were horses, everything was in this place while we were wrestling there." This shatters the misconception that unusual venues are strictly the domain of independent wrestling, demonstrating how even the biggest promotion sometimes embraces unconventional settings.
Perhaps the most heartwarming moment comes when Teddy shares the story of bombing a promo after forgetting the word "episodic" that Vince McMahon specifically wanted emphasized. Rather than facing anger, Teddy recalls McMahon laughing it off with advice he never forgot: "If something happens out there live, then it was meant to be." This glimpse into the supportive relationship between the chairman and his talent reveals the human side of an often-misunderstood industry.

boom, boomity, boom, there we go. Hey, teddy, how you doing this week, my friend I'm doing good man.
Speaker 2:We're just sitting here, uh, waiting on the storms and things to go away. It's been really storming pretty bad.
Speaker 1:Whoa, really, you've got storms up that way, yeah. Damn we haven't had any here. We have been dry as a bone. The grass is brown. It's crunchy under your feet. We're waiting for some of that rain and storms to get down this way, as long as they're not destructive.
Speaker 2:Well, we had it last week. Well, not last week, I mean last night. It was really bad Thunder and lightning all last night, and then we got some today about 6 o'clock. I was taking Rufus to run and we got caught right in it, God, dog.
Speaker 1:yeah, we get rained around here like I get. You know, the hoop-dee-doo from the wife. You know I get it almost every day, almost Monday, almost Tuesday, almost Wednesday. Hey, let's talk about SummerSlam before we get into the mailbag here, Teddy, while everybody gets into the room. And, by the way, if you'd like to be a part of the show, all you have to do is leave a comment. You don't have to get a super sticker or any of that kind of stuff. All you have to do is ask a question. Teddy will answer any question you throw his way. Whether you like it or not, he'll answer that question. So it's that simple but real quick, Teddy. Before we get into all that, let's talk about SummerSlam matches and some of the bigger ones, and that being, first of all, champion Tiffany Stratton up against Jade Cardio. What do you think is going to happen in this?
Speaker 2:Well, I think you're going to see an outstanding match. I've seen both of these ladies in action. They both are great competitors in the ring. I mean, you're going to see a hell of a match and, in my opinion, I do think Jay Coddell will come out on top.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'm curious to see what they do here because I'm not exactly sure what will happen, but this is SummerSlam and this is one of their big events, so they put a lot into these matches when we get into them. Uh, let's see the other match now. Here's a tag team match that I really am curious to see what they do with it. Uh, it's Randy Orton and Jelly Roll versus Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. Now I I thought from the get-go that Jelly Roll should have been the one receiving a lot of the abuse going into this match. Do you think we're going to see Randy Orton and Jelly Roll pull out a win here? Or do you think, because of all the grace that Jelly Roll has been getting lately, maybe it's his turn to take something?
Speaker 2:Well, I think Jelly Roll and Randy will come out on top. I really do. Jelly Roll, you have to give him credit, I mean the guy's. I mean he looks phenomenal. He's lost a lot of weight, man. He's been down at NXT getting in the ring, getting himself in shape and getting ready for all this. So you gotta give him credit for that. And, like I said, I've just watched him his body language and stuff. I think he's gonna do a hell of a job. And Logan Paul I also like him too. So this is going to be a great match. It's going to be real entertaining, but it's also going to be a good match too.
Speaker 1:Another one of the big matches, of course, is the champion, gunther, up against CM Punk, and man, I like both of these guys, so there can't be a loser here to me. I just don't see, though, cm Punk winning over Gunther. I think they need to keep that belt on Gunther longer to make him stronger. What do you think?
Speaker 2:Well, Gunther is pretty strong now. I mean, I don't know how much stronger you want him to be. Like I said, our business now is based on entertainment, so you know what I mean. It's not the old school. So to see CM Punk come out on top, you know, that wouldn't surprise me at all.
Speaker 1:You know, I don't think it hurts CM Punk to lose the match. He doesn't need the belt, whereas I think Gunther. I think the belt helps his presentation. Let's just say that because they bring him across like a Brock Lesnar. He's just a badass.
Speaker 2:Well, that's what I'm saying With Gunther, you know I like your opinion, you know, but I don't think he needs the belt to impress anybody. I mean, you can look at him, he's got just a look that scares you.
Speaker 1:You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2:So I don't think Gunther needs the belt either to establish himself. I think he's pretty much established.
Speaker 1:I think they could really use him in that role of Brock Lesnar, the way they used to bring him in occasionally. You didn't see him all the time and when he came in you knew business was about to pick up. You know, that's just how it was and I like to see that. And I do see that sometimes people complain that, well, you don't see a certain wrestler week after week or you know, from one pay-per-view to the next. Back in the territory days that happened all the time. Back in the territory days. That happened all the time. People just rotated out of the territory and went somewhere else so that everybody felt fresh when the stories were going. They would disappear for a while and they would come back and make another impact. Right, Right, that's what I wish we would do more of today.
Speaker 1:Another match, real fast Becky Lynch versus Io Sky versus Rhea no, no, no, I'm sorry. Who is it? Becky Lynch versus Io Sky versus Rhea? No, no, no, I'm sorry. Who is it Becky Lynch? I can't remember who she's facing. I don't have it down. Becky Lynch is facing somebody. We'll hope she does the best. Anyhow, here's the one I wanted to get to Io Sky, Rhea Ripley and Naomi who is the champion. This has been a fun thing to watch. And when you got eo sky, a former champion, rhea ripley, a former champion, and naomi and her championship, now where do you go with this?
Speaker 2:you go straight to the bank. Yeah, this is a tough one here. You got real ripping, like you say. You got former champions in there and these girls. That one thing you can know when they step in there, they're hungry and they letting you know it. So this one here to me, I think, would be too close to call. I just don't know. But I'm certainly I can't wait to watch it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know, when it came to the girls and I was giving them a hell about some of the uh, the talent in the female division not too long ago, and when they had their evolution pay-per-view just recently, man, I, I was, uh, you know, I owned up. The girls are much better than I thought they were. They were doing a hell of a job, and here's what I think I think they're trying to to show that they're just as good as the guys some of them are better than the guys yes, and that's what I was about to say.
Speaker 1:There are certain individuals on that roster and the female roster that are better than the majority of the guys on the guys roster. Right, it just is what it is. All right, here's the big uh main event, teddy, that we'll talk about, and then we'll uh get into the mailbag here, main event being john cena versus cody rhodes, and john cena is the champion. Do you see cody dethroning John Cena?
Speaker 2:Well, I don't know this one here, you know Cena's kind of confusing. You know he says he's retiring and he's leaving, and then next thing you know he's involved in a big program. So you know what I mean. So you know, you just don't really know. You know which way they're going with this. You know, I just don't think Cody's going to dethrone him. I really don't.
Speaker 1:I think that there's a good chance and maybe it doesn't happen, but I do see a possibility where this could be a double turn, where Cena finally goes face and Cody goes heel, because a lot of people believe that Cody's been a heel from the get-go. He's just been hiding it, and that's always been my thought too, because— but why would you do?
Speaker 2:that you said the guy stays retiring.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm talking about Cody.
Speaker 2:Now Cody— I know but why would John go do all this if he's leaving? Why would he turn back babyface?
Speaker 1:I would think that he'd want to go out babyface at some point. Do you think he'll end his career as a heel, or do you think he'll end his career as a baby face?
Speaker 2:A heel. What he is. That's what he should end his career.
Speaker 1:I got a feeling, though, that's not going to happen. I think we're going to see a double turn here. If not, we'll see at least hints of something that's coming down the line.
Speaker 2:I just think this scene is going to go out of his face.
Speaker 1:All right, let's see. I think that's it for everything right now. Yes, we're going to go into the mailbag. If you're ready, just leave your questions here. I know some of you already have. We'll get them up on the screen, teddy will answer those and the best question of the night gets a free Road Trip After Hours. T-shirt. And Teddy will pick that at the end of the night, so at the end of the night, so get your questions in and pull one out those letters.
Speaker 2:I love those letters. Let's find out what you've got to say. Oh boy Mailman.
Speaker 1:Mail today.
Speaker 2:Boom, boom, boom. Why do you keep punishing me? Not only are you punishing me, but you're punishing our listeners with that horrible mailbag music. It's just horrible.
Speaker 1:Until you come up with something better. That's what we got. Oh, you want me to?
Speaker 2:come up with oh.
Speaker 1:Do a Teddy Long original for opening mail and we'll play that one.
Speaker 2:No, I tell you what. Why don't we get some of the fans or somebody to send us some music and see if we can use it? Send us some music, that would be fun.
Speaker 1:Hey guys, if you're watching right now and you want to piece together some kind of music or intro for Teddy and I don't use popular music because we won't be able to run it, obviously but if you come up with your own stuff, throw it at us, we'll throw it up there.
Speaker 2:That'd be kind of fun to be actually. Yeah, because that music is just horrible. Letters oh, we got letters and we're doing Jesus God, I thought I was looking at the little rascals.
Speaker 1:I was doing a podcast with oh God, get your bell rung last night and when I was doing that podcast we were talking about you and I and Ashley. If you ever want to know anything about my background, watch that. It's on my Facebook page. But I do talk quite a bit about Teddy in that hour that we're on, because you really, in all honesty, teddy and I are like brothers and we just give each other shit and we have a blast doing it. All right. First question here Neil on X writes what are your thoughts on making SummerSlam a two-day event?
Speaker 2:I really you know it's all right with me. You know what I mean. I think if those guys are able to do that, you know, make it a two-day event I think that's spectacular. You're going to have a lot more fans. A lot of people that probably couldn't make it might be able to make it now to catch the second show. So I think it's a great move. Man, it's all about the dollar.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean great move and it's smart, but as a fan, my God. Friday night SmackDown. Saturday night, number one. Summerslam. Sunday night SummerSlam night number two. Monday night. Monday night Raw man. There's going to be a lot of wrestling on and sometimes I feel, teddy, like there's too much wrestling on where people can get tired of it after a while, don't you think?
Speaker 2:Well, you get tired of everything. You know what I mean. But, like I said, they're out there now, so you know they got to go with it.
Speaker 1:All right, let's see Pretty classy lady popping in saying Teddy, is it true that you're the original player from the Himalayas?
Speaker 2:No, that's not true. I don't know anything about Himalaya. Never heard of it.
Speaker 1:Let's see Zach popping in saying he likes that T-shirt you got on there, Teddy.
Speaker 2:Well, all right, zach, we might be able to send you one if you have a good question for me.
Speaker 1:And you know what, Teddy, Speaking of T-shirts, you sent me a video of the Iron Sheet today. Yeah, I'm going to show you what I was wearing when I was watching that, Honest to God, I had it on and I just started laughing. But yeah, that was a great video. By the way. Where did you post that?
Speaker 2:I won't say what you bought it, but I didn't post it anywhere, I just enjoyed it for myself and I sent it to you.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that was good stuff, Teddy. What did you say? It's iron chic at its best. Classic chic brother, best classic sheet brother. Oh man god, y'all gonna hate us now for not telling you what we're talking about. All right, let's see, we have curly man. Hey, curly man. Hey, teddy mac. How you guys doing? I'm doing fantastic, teddy I you look like you're in a great mood too oh yeah, I'm doing.
Speaker 2:Okay, man, very good all right, let's see.
Speaker 1:Next question here is from uh I guess it's trying to be funny, maybe com ed, uh, from com ed. So he needs your help. Says uh, okay, this is like a dear abby, I guess. Dear teddy, I need your help. I recently said something that got me in a lot of trouble with the wife. I need ideas to get her back on my good side. Okay, hold on. He says also, in case you're wondering, she and I went to take her duck for a walk in the park. Some drunk guy came up and yelled at her saying where'd you get that ugly thing? To which my wife replied sir, that happens to be a duck, and I had to, you know, remind her that he was drunk and he was talking to the duck and got her in trouble. Teddy, any advice for this poor guy?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think he needs to just go and get a divorce.
Speaker 1:Yeah, If your wife is walking a duck around, I don't know if you're trying to be funny, If you did man serious or not. If she's walking a duck around on a leash, something's just not quite right.
Speaker 2:I'm begging you, brother, get the papers.
Speaker 1:Yeah, man.
Speaker 2:Get them papers together right now.
Speaker 1:Don't wait. Don't wait, let's see. Get your bell rung. Pro wrestling podcast. I just want to drop in and say hello, mac and Mr Teddy. Hey, good to see you guys. Man, that's another one of those podcasts that Teddy and I had a chance to be on in St Louis. A great bunch of guys there, fantastic podcast. Make sure you keep up with them as well. Let's see. Hello to you guys. Get your Bellarong Wrestling podcast. That's the one I was on just last night. Bob Cook would argue about Gunther. He thinks Gunther is extremely boring Him and I argue that all the time. I love Gunther. I'm surprised Bob would say that I like Gunther. Yeah, I'm surprised Bob would say that I like Gunther. He's kind of a throwback to me. I like watching him. Teddy, what about you.
Speaker 2:I like watching him too. I don't think it's Well, bob and I. You know Bob's old school, you know what I mean and I think what's with Gunther. Gunther slows things down. You know what I mean. He's not that fast-paced and hear that blah, blah, blah. You know he takes his time and he slows things down and maybe that may be a little boring to people because he's not in a hurry. So you know what I mean, but I love his style. I think it's great.
Speaker 1:I think it's great Mark's in here saying hey, Mac and Teddy, hey Mark, it's good to have you with us again tonight. All right, Mark, Michael Steele same thing, I know you know Michael. There. Mr Teddy Cena wins, but not clean, is what he is saying for the Cena-Cody match at SummerSlam.
Speaker 2:Well, you know, I kind of may agree with Michael there too. You know what I mean. I can see that happening too. You know, gocena would still remain here. I can see, you know, yeah, yeah, I can see that happening all right, what else we got here?
Speaker 1:we got a bunch of them coming in. Get your bell rung. Uh, also saying, I think seth rawlins cashes in the briefcase. I think seth's injury is a work due to there not being any reports about his injury at all since saturday night's main event. Uh, yeah, I think a a lot of people are wondering just how legit that injury may have been.
Speaker 1:But that is what I enjoy about some of the wrestling right now. There are and I've talked about this recently when it comes to kayfabe. I do believe that kayfabe is alive still and I think it's being resurrected in a way that's using social media to their advantage, and I think that's smart, because you don't want to know everything that's going to happen. You want to be surprised. Otherwise wrestling can become quite boring. I mean, if you knew the end to a movie, would you really go watch the whole freaking movie? You know I let's see. We also have Mike popping in saying what's he got here? Aew show was horrible yesterday. Are they going further downhill, mike? I didn't see AEW. No, teddy, you don't watch it, and I didn't see it last night, so I'm not really sure.
Speaker 2:Now you know why I don't watch it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know the problem with AEW, really too, is that they're hit or miss. You know, and again, it's like you know, teddy, if you know you can get a great steak somewhere. Or I say like Cracker Barrel, here's a great example. Cracker Barrel is a place where you know you can go to that place and you know what you're going to get. It's always going to be the same. No matter where you go, it's always going to taste the same, whereas other ago it's always going to taste the same, whereas other places, one day maybe the food's good, the next day the food's horrible. You know, wrestling's kind of the same way. You want it to be consistent, would that?
Speaker 2:be all you got to do. All you got to do in some of these cases is just change the leadership yeah, well it really is that simple yeah, it really is that freaking simple.
Speaker 1:Let's see Mark's asking hey, Teddy, any New Mexico road stories.
Speaker 2:No, I don't know anything about New Mexico. You never traveled to New Mexico for a show. I went there one time. Yeah, I remember a couple times. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was a real rundown building there. The water didn't work, yeah yeah, I remember that. But they told us we couldn't take no shower. That's right. They told us we couldn't use the water. The water was contaminated.
Speaker 1:Was this also the place where you were in a cattle barn or something? I think you told me you were in some place that was not the normal place for a wrestling match.
Speaker 2:Golly, I would have been in Plain at. M wrestling match. Golly, I'd have been in plain at him, jesus Christ.
Speaker 1:There are a lot of people watching Teddy who have never you see what you see when it comes to WWE. But on the independents brother it's a completely different story. Like Teddy says, I have been in places where they hold livestock shows and stuff and you're out there changing right there with all the cow dung and everything else.
Speaker 2:You ain't got to be on the independents. When I was in WWE, we was in Fort Worth, texas, there, and that's where we was in a barn, there were horses, everything was in this place, in this barn, while we were wrestling there. So it ain't got to yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah man, yeah man. Steve Moore is saying what do y'all think about the new Netflix show Unreal Teddy? Have you had the chance to watch that?
Speaker 2:It just came out in that long. I watched the trailer the other night and I think I sent it to you.
Speaker 1:You may have. Actually I can't remember I've seen about. Actually I've seen every episode. I think I finished it today. Let me say this I don't think there's a lot of people who are really upset about the possibility of revealing too much background to what's happening behind the scenes. I'm one of those. I don't believe in sharing a whole lot of that information. But I will say this I thought the show was pretty good. It revealed a little bit here and there, but at the same time, when you finish watching the show and, teddy, I know you, if you saw this, you'd see the same thing they're still working the fans. It's not a complete shoot, it's still a work.
Speaker 2:And so you know it's not as harmful as I think a lot of people thought it might be. They know what they want you to see and what they don't want you to see.
Speaker 1:Yeah, even what they think they're giving you that's a secret behind the scenes may not actually be what you think it is. It may be what they want you to think. What it is, it's an illusion, yes, and that's good, which is good. That's the way wrestling should be. Herb Simmons. Good evening gentlemen. Hey, Herb, good to have you with us man, he was in the room last night with me as well.
Speaker 2:Good afternoon, Mr Simmons, Player player.
Speaker 1:Yeah, man, we love some Herb Simmons. Let's see Mike in here. Is it time for a more serious Gunther character, a Colonel De Beers-type gimmick, perhaps without the racism. But in all seriousness, I don't think he is perceived as dangerous anymore. What do you think, teddy?
Speaker 2:They can light a fire back on them anytime they get ready. I think he's doing a good job. Myself, you know, things have just changed a lot. A lot of people you have to realize the business is not what it used to be. So you know, I sit and I look at things and I'm like golly, but I mean there's nothing I can say because that's the way of the world Everything changes. So I think Gunter's doing a great job. I don't think they need to make him any more serious. Maybe they need to, maybe now set him up for something real big, maybe put him in something with the Rock or something like that. I don't know.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think who he's facing will depend on how much danger he brings with him. I do think of him, though, as one of the guys who, legitimately, is one of the badasses that's going to come out to the ring, and whoever he's facing is going to have trouble, because I never know where that story may go, because there's so many options. When you have somebody who's that strong as a character as he is and he does have that dangerous edge to me, you know, I feel like he's got it.
Speaker 2:He's just something about him. I like him. I like him man.
Speaker 1:But hey look, Mike, everybody likes different things. Brother, let's see here Scott, Lance, Good to see you in here, Scott. Thoughts about when you turned heel as a referee at Clash of Champions 6 during the Road Warriors versus Varsity Club. Were you nervous? And your thoughts on Jim Cornette?
Speaker 2:No, I wasn't nervous at all. I was prepared for that. That was a big deal for me then that once they found out that I could talk Kevin Sullivan hot stuff, able to give a God rest his soul they're certainly responsible for a great lot of my success. So when they told me what I had to do because, like I said, they fired me on TV and then I knew then after the firing what was going to happen I was just ready. It didn't bother me. When I did that, I was just wanting to see the reaction of the people. That's what I play off of. Once I do something, I see how it affects the people. Then that lets me know whether I got them or not. So, uh, I wasn't nervous at all, man, that was.
Speaker 1:I had a great time doing that I've never asked you this teddy and and and I know what you mean where you know, at the end of a match or the end of whatever you may be doing, you know if it worked or not. You know you're like, oh, I had them, this, this, this got them. Was there ever a time in whether it's wcw or wwe, where you thought, oh, I had a man, that was great. And then you get in the back and the review from vince maybe, was different no, I never had that problem to have.
Speaker 2:I did have. Have. One day I went out and Vince had wrote this promo and he had in this promo. I'll never forget this word episodic. That was the word episodic. I never will forget that and I swear. And they told me Vince says this is what he really wants you to stress, it's episodic episode or something like that. I said no problem, and I thought I had that down and, brother, I stepped out on the ramp and I swear, man, I just went blank. I could not remember episodic to save my life and all I was thinking about Vince is going to kill me. That's all I was thinking about on the ramp. And so, and I walked back through and he was standing up and he was just dying, laughing man and I apologized. Walked back through and he was standing up and he was just dying, laughing man and I I had I've apologized. I said I just couldn't get it out.
Speaker 1:I remember when that happened. That was, you were making a special appearance. You weren't a regular character at that time. You had been away for a while. I can't remember what it was, what show it was, and if you remember let me know. Okay, look up that episode with teddy uh, with episodic uh in the word. It is funny because you can feel you bombing on stage and you even kind of go you knew, you knew, boy, I just screwed the pooch on this one. Yes, oh.
Speaker 2:God, I was so embarrassed and I thought I was going to get it to it. I walked through and Vince was just dying laughing. He was like you know, I don't screw up unless something happens, man, but I just don't know what.
Speaker 1:I bet you were relieved once you got in the back and he was laughing and not screaming.
Speaker 2:Oh God. But Vince always said this, and this is where I always got comfortable. He said if something happens out there, then it was meant to be Yep. So don't be so hard on yourself. God damn it. It's happened to me a lot of times. You know what I mean. He would always tell me that if it happened, live. It was meant to be.
Speaker 1:Oh, by the way, did you see the news about him in a car wreck?
Speaker 2:Yeah, I did see that he hit the car wreck with somebody.
Speaker 1:His Bentley got all tore up. But you know I was surprised. You know what I thought of when I heard that news Vince drives himself. I figured he had somebody driving him around everywhere he went.
Speaker 2:I didn't think he even drove a car. Yeah, he got a nice Bentley. I've seen it before when we used to go to Stanford well, not to the office Bridgeport, I think, connecticut. And there was another place in Connecticut there I think we were at Bensonwood. I always bring a driver's car.
Speaker 1:I heard people say in the past that they didn't even like riding with him because he scares them to death when he drives. Let's see, mike is saying it's bad when your state is remembered by a WWE Hall of Famer, that being Teddy Long, only because the water didn't work. He's talking about the New Mexico story. Let's see Jesse Wilks in here. Hey, jesse, good to see you. I've seen a show at Midas muffler and brake shop. Yeah, I know he has.
Speaker 1:I uh, jesse works with god. He's gonna hate me because I cannot remember the group of the uh midget wrestling. Um, jesse, remind me up on here so we can let people know where they can find you. But uh, he, he travels with a lot of midgets and, and I'm sure some of the places they end up for, some of the craziest he probably has some fantastic road stories actually. Let's see Curly man. Let's see, hey, mac and Teddy, have you guys watched WWN Rio and if you guys did, what are your opinions on it? We just covered that, so sorry about that. Pretty classy lady. If they made a new version of Legends House, would you want to be on it?
Speaker 2:As long as they pan.
Speaker 1:Damn right. I would like to see that, though I did find that one of the better shows that WWE did when they brought back some of those legends. But you're just going to have the right group of people, because back in the time you had Hulk Hogan, roddy Piper. You get all these big names and they're in a house, you know, with Jimmy Hart and and, oh my God, some of the stories Gene Okerlund just crazy shit that went on in that house. Get your bell rung podcast. Mr Teddy, back in GCW, when you were collecting the robes for the wrestlers in their matches, did you have any idea or even the desire at the time to go on and have the career that you?
Speaker 2:No, I didn't have any idea, never thought anything about it. I just when I was in the back I did understand that I couldn't just stand around because all eyes were on me for some reason, and now I know why because you know they're very secretive back then you know they look at me. Who is this guy, what's he doing? Back here? I would go to the ring, get jackets and stuff and you know, kind of let the guys know. I'm just, you know, trying to do whatever I need to do here. So I didn't no, it didn't bother me, I didn't even think about I'd ever even be a referee, let alone that the way I got to be a referee was a big surprise too. I took the ring to Cobb Civic Center and put the ring up. That was my job. Next thing I know know the promoter comes to me, says tonight you got a referee, we don't have a referee. So that was that's how I started reverie.
Speaker 1:I didn't even I had no idea that was even going to happen yeah, I mean, you know, for a lot of people in wrestling, uh, it is right time, right place, uh, right environment and working your way up by being noticed for the work that you're doing, and that's what daddy did. I mean, let's face, teddy, you you took a zero knowledge of how wrestling worked, came in on the ground floor and worked yourself all the way up to a hall of fame. I mean, that's, that's impressive. I don't care who you are, what occupation you have, man to to, to do it and and to know, not only just you know what you were able to do during your times in wrestling, but how hard of a time you had before you even got to wrestling as a story in itself. So just you know, that kind of stuff is extremely, you know, telling about an individual, and that's why Teddy and I get along so well.
Speaker 2:And I just want to say thanks to Vince McMahon because he saw it. A lot of people saw it too, but they didn't want to see it. But Vince McMahon didn't look at it like that. He saw it and he done it. So thank you, sir All right, let's see.
Speaker 1:We have Mike asking. I think some of the front office moves are kayfabe, which would be smart. Yes, and that certainly helps when it comes to today's kayfabe Pretty classy lady. On Unreal I saw they had Jay Uso being blocked from getting in the arena and Mark Henry had to let him in. It looked scripted, you know, I'm not sure, teddy, I know you didn't see that, but I do think that maybe I don't think it was scripted. I think, because he looked like he was legit, kind of ticked off, that the guy was holding him up and he shouldn't know who he was and let him go park his car.
Speaker 2:Why was Mark Henry there? Was he on this show?
Speaker 1:He was in a car behind Jay Uso and Jay didn't have his credentials and he was telling the guy my name is this you know, I'm on the show.
Speaker 2:Oh, they were trying to get in a building, yeah yeah, get in a building.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, they wouldn't let him in, you know, say into the parking lot area, which is like, okay, I got you. Yeah, uh, let's see what else we got here. Uh, have a great weekend. It was great meeting you, mr teddy, and mr teddy in st louis. Same, uh, back at you, guys and kj, thank you thank you guys uh, let's see curly man saying hey, teddy, I forgot.
Speaker 1:What did you do back in the day on James Brown TV show, future Shock? And can we see that show on YouTube if we still seek it out?
Speaker 2:I was the music director. I selected the music for the people to dance by the music that they played for the people to dance. I don't know. The name of the show was Future Shock. I don't know whether it's on YouTube or not. It could be. I just got. I haven't looked at that at all.
Speaker 1:I'm going to have to look that up myself Now. You got me kind of curious, if it's out there, so let me ask you how did you choose the music?
Speaker 2:Well.
Speaker 1:I was doing radio.
Speaker 2:No, I was radio. You know what I mean. So what I did is they had. You know what I mean. So what I did is they had so many people they let in. It was like Soul Train and what it was. When they started playing music, you got up and danced. So what I did is selected the music for them to dance by, because I knew from my radio days what music to play and what they liked.
Speaker 1:All right, let's see We've still got a few more here. I'm going to try to get in before we have to close out. If you haven't heard it, teddy, you are one of the best managers ever. You have managed so many people.
Speaker 2:Well, thank you very much. I really appreciate that, thank you.
Speaker 1:He also says he thinks Vince McMahon is underrated. And Scott Lance? Why did they end the Rodney Mack gimmick with you as his manager so quick?
Speaker 2:Rodney got injured so he had to go home. He hurt himself.
Speaker 1:So that's why that happened. Let's see Mike Mack. You are hosting like four or five shows. Where's that energy? Coming from A cup of coffee and, you know, just enjoying life to the fullest.
Speaker 2:Why don't you tell them what's in that coffee?
Speaker 1:The best stuff you can buy. Okay, all right, let's see what else we have here. John Roberts, hey Mac, hey, teddy, hey.
Speaker 2:John, let's see.
Speaker 1:I was watching this next guy right here just the other day on his mailbag and that's Joe Hamilton Jr or Nick Patrick saying holla, holla from Glico Beak.
Speaker 2:That's what I've called him all of our career. All the years me and him rode down the road, it was always Glico Beak. Now that's where that name comes from. I don't know how we come up with it.
Speaker 1:So you have all these weird names. You got Bubbles and Glico Beak. You don't have any clue what any of them mean.
Speaker 2:Who knows, who cares what they mean.
Speaker 1:Nick, if you can remember why you were calling him Glico Beak, let me know.
Speaker 2:No, I was Nick's. Was I called Nick Glico?
Speaker 1:Beak. Well, maybe Nick remembers, you know, he's not as brain dead as you are sometimes. Well, no, no, no, he is that's it Alright, Real quick, before we get out of here, Teddy, anything you want to push coming up and then we're going to pick our winner for this week.
Speaker 2:Like I said, this Tuesday night I'm going to be in. God, I didn't have my paper. It's oh here, I got it right here, man, I'm going to be in this. It's a Harris, Shahara County Sunshine Fairgrounds. Stop laughing, Matt, you never, remember where you're going.
Speaker 2:So this Tuesday, the Shahara County Sunshine Fair. I'm going to be there on behalf of Immortal Championship Wrestling. Now, my man, Mike, the promoter over there at Immortal Championship Wrestling, he's not only bringing me in for that, he's also going to honor me and put me in the Immortal Championship Wrestling. He's not only bringing me in for that, he's also going to honor me and put me in the Immortal Championship Wrestling Class 2025 Hall of Fame. So I want to say thank you, guys for that before I even get there. So I'll be there and that's in Cobus League, New York, I believe Cobus. I may be not pronouncing this right, but it's.
Speaker 1:Cobus League New York.
Speaker 2:Spell it C-O-B-L-E-S-K-I-L Coles, new York, okay.
Speaker 1:Is that right? Hey, if you say so, you lost me when you started spelling. Stop it. By the way, Nick was saying he can tell us what that Glico beak means. So that's interesting, do we?
Speaker 2:have time.
Speaker 1:Yeah, joe, if you can pop in here and tell us what it is, we'll stick around a little bit longer here, but first you got to pick a question. Anyhow, teddy, I want to know what it means. Yeah, I would too. In the meantime, while we're waiting for Nick, if you want to be able to tell us John Roberts saying would you guys know how Jimmy Hart is doing?
Speaker 2:I hadn't talked to Jimmy since last week, matt. You remember I told you I called him the day of Hogan's passing. Wow, and really I didn't call him and I hadn't called him because I didn't really want to bother him. I don't think this is the time right now, so I'll have my time to call him, but I imagine you know Jimmy's taking it pretty hard. Him and Hogan are real close man.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and Jimmy's a tender-hearted kind of guy and so I imagine it's very difficult for Jimmy. So anybody in that family, especially, like today we learned that he also was having challenges with leukemia. That came out today. It's like, oh wow, you know, and that even tells me more. Ok, I'm going to rant for just a quick second and then we'll get to your winner. Bubba the Love Sponge put out information about the health of Hulk Hogan and he got battered for doing so and people saying, oh, he's full of crap. What ended up that? A lot of it he was accurate on, but that doesn't matter to me. I don't care how accurate he was. Was it his place to release that information? The family's dealing with something they wanted to keep private. Shouldn't they have that right to keep that private, Teddy?
Speaker 2:Well, yes, they should. You know what I mean. You know, just some people, just some people. So, bubba, I don't even think I ever met him, I don't really even know him, so I just love him.
Speaker 1:He says you know it's like well, he's not out there to get ratings or anything else Bullshit. Yes, you know, it's like well, he's not out there to get ratings or anything else Bullshit. Yes, you are, otherwise why would you have even brought it up? You brought it up because you knew it. Draw attention to things that you're saying, which would get you more clicks, get you more views, whatever it may be To act like oh, I wasn't doing this for anything other than just giving out news Bullshit.
Speaker 1:You were putting out information that the family did not want. That's the reason why I believe so many people in the family were saying one thing while Bubba the Love Sponge was reporting other things. It's because the family wanted it to be private, and it should have been private. I'm done now, teddy, who do you want to pick this week? By the way, nick, I'm going to tell you what we ought to do. Get you on an upcoming show, whether it's next week or the following week, let's get you on the show with us and you can explain what Glico Beak actually means.
Speaker 1:We'll have a little fun with that. That'll be fun, but Teddy, who's going to be the winner this week?
Speaker 1:I think, we'll give that shirt to somebody asked me about. Was that Fred at Rep Arena or something in the back getting coached or something? Yep, hang on, I always have to kind of find out, because you never remember who it is. I tell you what. We'll find out who it is, because I cannot find it right now because we had a lot of questions tonight. So I'll go through this, but I will tell you that shirt is coming out to you. If that was your question, that will be coming out to you very soon, and if I don't have your information, just send it to me at macdavismail. That's M-A-I-L at gmailcom. Teddy, I think that's about it for tonight. Well, we kind of ran over quite a bit, but man, we still got people asking questions as we're sitting here. Hang on, let me just see what all we got here. Maybe we'll get a few more in. If you're not in a hurry, let's see, I'm never in a hurry for my people.
Speaker 2:I'm here for my people.
Speaker 1:Look, I just blocked somebody and don't know what I was doing.
Speaker 2:I didn't mean to block you If I just blocked somebody and don't know what I was doing. I didn't mean to block you. If I blocked you, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to?
Speaker 1:What are you on man? You know, Look here.
Speaker 2:I don't know what I'm doing. You're right, you answered it.
Speaker 1:I know you were answering it. I know. All right, Look here. Guys, we appreciate you tuning in. We do the show because we wanted to do something that was fun and free, Didn't require you having to buy super chats or anything else. It can make you a part of the show and you certainly helped us. The numbers and subscribers have been going up. I mean incredible numbers that we're starting to see. Now. We appreciate that. Speaker 2:All right, no problem, you know, I love it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, brother, all right, I'm Mac Davis. That's WWE Hall of Famer, teddy Long, and we will see you again next week, same time.
