How to be proactive about your annual review
The annual review is an excellent opportunity to know what you’ve accomplished in the previous year and how your performance has been, but it's also a good moment to signal to your supervisor that you're expecting more and ask them to advocate for you. There are in fact a few things you can do to prepare for your annual review, and to be proactive about it.
In today’s episode I’m sharing the story of one of my daughters, Jo. She had her annual review recently and asked me for help and insight to be prepared and ask for more. I know, it’s not easy to be your own advocate, but these tips will help you be ready for this and future negotiations.
A look at what I talked about:
[00:00:35] Being proactive about the annual review.
[00:01:42] The best approach to ask someone to advocate for you.
[00:03:00] It’s hard and uncomfortable to advocate for ourselves.
[00:05:28] Why is it important to be prepared before your annual review?
[00:06:33] Having responses ready for your annual review day.
[00:10:00] Being grateful and showing appreciation goes a long way.
[00:11:20] Don’t let your emotions hijack what you want to say.
[00:12:30] Think about what’s coming up for you professionally.
[00:13:30] Having a script with words you could use.
