Speaker 2:

Patty Morty was a lively Irish Australian character who disappeared on December 16th, 2017.

Speaker 3:

Pat's a good bloke , decent Aussie , um, come over every , as we , excuse me, cigarette smoke. Um, mate , you love this country, you love this area. Um, he was happy as a p and . He had everything he ever wanted. Um, he was a man, like the only thing he wanted to , apart from what he had was one of them Rolex watches. That's it . And that's all Pat ever like aspire to , apart from what he had. Um , a good worker, good, decent, honest bloke. Um , bit of a stir , but isn't the average Aussie.

Speaker 2:

He was from the small Northern Territory town of Larama Australia. Patty , who was last seen leaving a local pub called the Pink Panther Hotel, was on his quad bike with his dog Kelly, and he vanished without a trace.

Speaker 4:

Well, he used to always have eight beers, but sometimes he'd , uh, have another couple. And I think this day he'd had another couple. And , uh, that was it. I said , oh , well , we'll see you tomorrow. But he never showed up here the next day.

Speaker 2:

Since that day, neither he nor Kelly the dog have been seen. And the mysterious cases gripped Australia. There's been countless rumors about the towns view residents and their eccentric lives. So let's take a closer look at this case and the strange web of rumors and suspicions that has snared this tiny Outback community. Larama started on that day with a population of 12 December 16th, 2017, tiny outback town, just one pub, a few residents. It's remote, desolate, and the few people that live there are a close knit community. And as much as they love each other, there's also a lot of bitter rivalries in that town. Patty was a familiar figure with the boisterous personality. He was well known . He was well-liked by visitors, but he had rocky relationships with some of the locals known for his daily habit of having a few beers at the Pink Panther and his combative sense of humor. Patty seemed at odds with the town's simmering tensions on the day he disappeared. Patti Morty had stopped by the Pink Panther Hotel where he was a daily fixture. He was like furniture there. He had his usual drinks, joked around with a few patrons, and then around Dus, he left on his quad bike with his dog. Kelly. That would be the last time anyone saw him.

Speaker 3:

I do remember that day. Um, I can't tell you exactly what day it was. I thought it was Friday. A cop of the title's a Saturday, so , okay, that's fair enough. Um, it's pretty much like a time war pe every day's the same. But mate , it was just the same happy content . He was just gonna turn up the next day and get the lawn mow and that's it . Simple as that. So, yeah , like , you know, he had his second last beer and said , has he always done? Well? I think I'll have my supper this time, Richard, which is his last beer, and I think I'm done for this evening. So got on his motorbike with his dog mate. Blow my phone

Speaker 2:

When Patty didn't show up the next day, all the days following alarms went off for the few locals who knew him. Police conducted extensive searches around Larama, including combing through scrubland local wells and neighboring properties. But they found no sign of Patty or Kelly

Speaker 5:

Investigations established. There was a , a tourist that was passing through. They had contact with Patty and actually gave Patty's dog Kelly a chicken, a cook , chook , and , uh, just to , just to give it to the dog for dinner. And that was when Patty was leaving just about dusk. On the 16th of December thousand seven , one , we located that chicken wrapper actually in the premises of , uh, Patti's .

Speaker 2:

What made Patti's disappearance suspicious was the longstanding animosity among Larissa's residence . The town, though small was split by intense rivalries, and Patty himself was often at the center. He had bit a feuds with many locals. Investigators quickly uncovered a trove of stories about personal grudges, petty fights, and long held resentments that might have balled into something more sinister. His number one feuding partner was a Fran Hodges. She was a local pie shop owner. Fran had the most famous pies in Larama. Just ask her.

Speaker 6:

My pie's a famous world famous last year. I took him to court for a poisoning the garden. He threw an old big kangaroo under my bedroom. So many things, and it's all been reported to the police. They got it on record. He started stirring around town about what I was doing in the kitchen and how much it was selling my pies for . And I was this , and it was that because he was very jealous. You see , very jealous of what I've got here. And , and plus , um, the pub on opposition to the pub .

Speaker 2:

Fran and Patty had a well-documented dislike for each other with disagreements over everything from stray animals to garden upkeep. Some claimed that Patty would throw dead snakes over Fran's fence, and there was retaliations from Fran, rumors of earth throwing rocks back at Patty's house to make matters worse, frantic, who's Patty of harming her business? She claimed he had badmouthed her pies to visitors.

Speaker 7:

Oh , there was over there I used . True . I used to go over there and , and the dog wouldn't eat me . Pie , friends pie . Yeah , true word . And this is a chunky meat and everything like that here . Yeah . And I tell people, I tell them the truth. Bloody earth when they could pull up at my place up at the road. Yeah , I tell 'em , fair decent . Yeah . And that's what happens. And Fran is the worst gas bagger in town.

Speaker 6:

So I stopped him coming here, and that's when all this trouble started. He started pinching stuff, pinching umbrellas from here and , uh, damaged me property and giving me sheet and telling customers here not to come in, putting broken glass under, under Carl Mules , you know, over the parking bay because he , he didn't , he didn't want to park over there. And he , they'd pull up over there in front of his place and they'd, he'd tell him not to come in here, that nothing was homemade. And I mean, I'm not rubbishing the man, I'm only telling you it's all been reported to the police right through.

Speaker 4:

You didn't go into any roadhouse , anything and buy a pie. There's no claim to say no . Well, I sell pies. You can't sell pies. It'd be like saying, I sell soft drinks, so you can't sell soft drinks. You know that . Bit ridiculous.

Speaker 6:

Patty's never been over here and bought a pie . He's never had a pie here. He wouldn't know what my pie's taste like .

Speaker 2:

After Patty's disappearance. Police were reportedly found dead meat in Patty's freezer, which raised suspicions. Though she insisted it was unrelated to the case. Fran maintained her innocence. But there was rumors that Patty may have been placed in the pies. However, there was no evidence of such. There were other locals with whom Patty didn't see eye to eye . One of them, Barry Sharpe, was the pink PO's hotel manager and he admitted that himself and Patty had had their fair share of arguments, though he dismissed the idea of anything serious enough to, to cause patty harm. However, these small town quarrels only added fuel to the fire and each resident became a figure of suspicion. As investigators sifted through stories of rivalries and threats. As with many unsolved mysteries, speculation quickly spiraled into theories that range from plausible to downright bizarre. Some believe Patty met with foul play at the hands of his neighbors, citing the many feuds and strange behavior of townspeople. Others speculated about the possibility of an animal attack. Though investigators found little evidence to support this theory. The notion of Patty stumbling upon something he shouldn't have also floated around as a theory, suggesting he might have inadvertently witnessed something illicit and become a target. A few residents even suggested the possibility of a staged disappearance. But for what reason? With Patty leaving behind personal belongings, including his keys, his hat, this theory seemed unlikely. Locals even believed they might have seen Patty's ghost around town, a reflection of how deeply his disappearance impacted the community and haunted their imaginations. There was no sign of Patty Investigations could not find him, his body , his dog. And so these rumors kept swirling at the local pub. There was also a crocodile, which was a visitor's delight to come and see the crocodile being fed. That one rumor is that Patty's ended up somehow getting into the crocodile cage and that was the end of him and his dog or someone has done something to Patty and he's ended up in the crocodile cage. Either way, his body has never been found. The Northern Territory police and even private investigators conducted extensive and exhaustive searches in larama and surrounding areas. The police initial investigation eventually led to a coronial inquest where various residents were questioned. This brought about further insights into Patty's relationships and his conflicts. In 2020, coroner Greg Kavanaugh concluded that Patty likely met with foul play . Though he didn't specify any suspect, the coroner's findings only added to the aura of suspicion that already clouded the town. As he confirmed many people's worst fears, someone in Larama might know more than they were saying. See, Paddy's vanishing has left a strange haunting legacy over the town of Larama cementing its reputations as a town where tension and mystery intersect.

Speaker 8:

I think it's been taken off somewhere. It's my opinion either that , um, said bad thing to say , well , pigs , you know , well goes , they got , somebody knew what they were doing when they got rid of him. They feed him the pigs .

Speaker 9:

Of course , pigs don't leave in the evidence. So I believe

Speaker 8:

Crocodiles, there's plenty of places be of the body in there .

Speaker 2:

Since his disappearance, a number of documentaries and new specials have delved into the mystery of Patti Morty leaving audiences wondering if a place so small could hold such a big secret. And while Patty Moriarty's fate remains unknown, the cases highlighted the complex dynamics of a small town community and raise questions that may never be answered. To this day, the mystery of Patti Moriarty hangs over Larama . A reminder of how even the closest communities can hold unsolved secrets, fractured alliances, and stories that may never see the light of day.

Speaker 6:

I dunno where he is. I dunno who dun it . I dunno if he's alive. I dunno if he's out hiding, trying to get me into trouble, which ended me . Mine , I swear on my grandkids on my life that I don't pull through this cancer, that I know nothing about .

Speaker 2:

Such an interesting unsolved mystery that it's still ongoing, still an open case, and police are still wanting to know what happened to Patti Moriarty . If you've got any information or any tips, contact Crime Stoppers or police and I'm sure they'll be able to take your information. Thanks
