James (J.Solo) Solomon Season 3 Episode 11

Send us a text

In this episode of the Play It Live podcast, hosts J.Solo and Key discuss the song "Window Shopper" by 50 Cent. They talk about how the song and its soundtrack are underrated, and how the song can be seen as inspirational rather than looking down on broke people.  The hosts share their own experiences as "window shoppers" - going to car dealerships to test drive cars without intending to buy, and checking out jewelry stores without making purchases. They also discuss the responsibility (or lack thereof) of helping friends who have lost money gambling. The conversation touches on other 50 Cent songs like "Hustler's Ambition" and the hosts' music listening habits. Overall, it's an engaging discussion about the meaning behind "Window Shopper" and the hosts' personal experiences as window shoppers.

Are you a window shopper? Are you a window shopper? When it come to cars? Are you a window shopper? At the gym? It ain't my fault you done messed up your re up at the dice game who told you put a g up? What up, y'all? Welcome back to another episode of the Play It Live podcast. I'm your host, Jay Solo, and I got your girl Key in the building. What up, world? I'm back, I'm back. I know y'all miss me. Hey, what up, doe? What up, do? And on this episode, we got a song from one of our favorite artists, Curtis 50 Cent Jackson. Yes, sir. With Window Shopper. Um, off of the Get Rich or Die Trying soundtrack. Let's get into it, let's go. Before we get into the lyrics, let's talk a little bit about the song. Cause this is 2005. Yes. What was you doing in 2005? I had just had my son. He had just turned one. Dang, you right. You right. That was that time. Yeah. He had turned one. No, I remember this song came out like this. Soundtrack don't get talked about a lot. As far as one of the greatest soundtracks, it should be up there with Superfly, New Jack City, Butter Rim. It should be fried. It should be up there. I agree, cuz. This soundtrack went platinum itself. Just like the, uh, the original album. A lot of people say music and stuff can't grow on you, but Window Shopper grew on me. When I first heard, I was like this cool, cuz, you know, 50 mostly known for the aggressive tones. Ah. And all that. Yeah, Window Shop was a little bit different, but after I listened to it a couple times, it grew on me. Some people think it's like a song talking down about broke people. I look at it as a song of inspiration. Me too. Like, that's what you do. Uh, you go window shop and be like, man, I gotta get my stuff together so I can go back and get it. Okay. And whatever else, you know? Yeah, yeah. That's how I look at it, man. I agree. Everybody that's listening or tuned in right now, we got my auntie in the back. So if you hear her laughing or whatever, that's her back there. We got a little bit of live audience back here, man. So. Yeah. What else about window shopping? What stands out to you before we get into these lyrics? Because I'm a window shopper. Anyway, like you said, I like to go see what's in that stove before I go and purchase my stuff. So I'm definitely a fan of window shopping. Well, Trent, let's get right into the question. That was the first question. Let's go. Are you a window shopper? Yeah, sure is. Sure is. What up, y'all? It's your boy J Solo. And we got an announcement to make. What we got key? We got a premium vinyl figure of, uh, my homie, the Notorious B.I.G. uh. So we are giving away both of these Funkos to our subscribers. These are the rules to get access to either one of these. Be the first or the fifteenth to follow these rules. Follow us and like us on Facebook, Instagram, subscribe on YouTube, follow us on TikTok and download our latest episode on our Buzzsprout page to get access to the Notorious B.I.G. uh, Funkos. Y'all not gonna want to miss out on these. Let's get it, man. Let's support music. Let's keep music alive. We ain't worried about the diddy and all the baby oil stuff. Let's just celebrate the music, man. Let's go. Let's get back into the episode. Are you the window shopper that he referred to? Are you just going to look and never go back to get it? Oh, no. Uh, well, I mean, you know what? No. Yeah, on some. On some aspects I am. So you like a part time window shopper? Yeah, I'm a part time because I might see it at this time that I want it, but then something else new gonna come out. So that's the reason of me being a window shop, because it's always something new that's going to come out. So, yeah, in that aspect, I probably didn't change my mind. So like I said, I look at this song as inspiration. I'm gonna go check it out and then I'm gonna go get it. But it do especially at University Mall. If y'all from Tampa University Mall, when this song came out, it was a bunch of dudes sitting up there at that jewelry store talking about getting stuff weighed and priced and all that. Yes. And they'll never go back. Shout out to Sonny, too, man. He made my AOB piece, uh, back here on the wall. Shout out to Sonny, man. University Mall, man, they used to be out there wasting Sunday time. I'm like, sonny, why do you talk to them? He's like, I ain't got nothing else to do. Them the window shop. Those the real window. You got people wearing the jury talking about, how many grams can you make it holler? Yeah, for no people staying, man. Right. I got that man showing you things. No, you ain't. Finna. Buy that. I want to just put it on. Taking pictures with the jury. Come on, dog. This is the window shop. What are you talking about? Yeah, as far as cars, are you a window shopper when they come to cars? Definitely. Definitely. I'm going to the dealership to get a test drive. Why are you playing with them people? I love cars so, you know, I should have been a, uh, person that lease cars because I can't spend too much time in the car. You definitely are a lease car person. I am, Lisa. I am. So I have to go. When I hear that it's a new car that just came out or whatever, I gotta go test drive it. It's just something that I like to do. Not even considering to purchase the car, but I just wanna see what that car drives. Like, just in case. Opposite. Like I only get cars that I like. Mhm. I gotta really like this car to pull the trigger. Rather I'm finna make payments or just buy it straight out. I gotta like that car, dog. Uh, I don't play these games. Yeah. If I go see a car that I like, body wise and all that, and I'd research it, if I go test drive it and be like, this ain't it. Yeah, I ain't gonna get it. You ain't gonna get it. But oh man, why are you playing with them people? I'm gonna play with these people all day long. I ain't playing if it gets to the point where I have the ad. Look, the first paperwork that they have you sign when you go into them dealerships is if you want to test drive. I need your license and all of this. I uh, I want to see how this car drive. They run all out of the car lot. You be at the car lot, you pull out, they coming out the door harassing you. So I'm the harasser. You want to show me all this? You sure? You sure you want to show me all this? I want to know how everything work in this car. Let's go. By the time I'm done, they be like, ma'am, you know, uh, I think uh, we getting ready to close in a little bit. So I be on this whole subject, but we here talking about it. There's a dealership on Nebraska and Waters. They gone, they shut down now. They are out of business. Hey, and I hate to say it, I'm glad y'all out of business, dog. And you ain't supposed to wish bad on people, but hey, I'm glad y'all gone. See you. The car was listed for $14,000. I say, okay, I had my money stacked up. This was getting ready to do the rental car business. Had my money stacked up, was gonna put down half, get the other check from the bank and put down the rest and walk out. 14, 000, whatever the tax or whatever, 15, 16, whatever. So I go there, test drove the car, and like you say, I test drive the car. Mhm. I went to the house fast. I went and checked on the kids. I went with my mom. Hey, I test drove that car. They called me, they was like, hey, man, uh, where you at? I'm like, bro, I'm test driving. Exactly. They were like, yeah, but we got like a little script you just supposed to go on. I said, I ain't see no sign by none of that. Y'all got my license. I'm coming back. Okay, Go back to the dealership. I was like, hey, man, the car, perfect. Good mileage. This is, um, a Mercedes, like small Mercedes or whatever. Like a 230something. I don't even remember what it was, but it was nice. It fully loaded, leather seats, heated seats, sunroof, all that. Oh, wow. Yeah, loaded, definitely 14,000. I'm like, hey, I'm ready. Let's get the paperwork going. Uh-huh. Let's get it. I got cash here. I got my m. Cashier check. We can get this done. Let's go. Dude was like, uh, yeah, you can't buy it like that. So I'm like, what you mean you can't buy it like that? He was like, no, if you finance the car through us, you get it for 14,000. You get it for 14,000, you finance through us. But you ain't going to come out of here like that. You can't pay cash and get 14,000. So I say, well, how much is it if I pay cash straight up or if I go through my bank? Oh, it's 24,000. Really? Wow. So I said, what kind of games is this? More than half. More than. What kind of games is this, dog? You got me feeling like a window shop, right exactly at this point. Like me to have this ready to go. What you doing? He said, no, we don't do it like that. You have to finance through us, uh, to get the 14, um, thousand dollars price. So I said, let me see the paperwork. The interest was like 26%. That's what it is. Like that. So y'all gonna get the 24, 26 anyway back, uh, off the interest anyway. Like, come on, that's that game. I'm um, glad y'all out of business. That's that game. You got me feeling like a window shopper. Now, I'm not a window shop, but they be the window shoppers. They be looking for us to come. They shopping on us. Yeah. That's why I say I'm a window shop. So glad y'all out of business. Oh, yeah. Bye. See y'all. See y'all. For. We talked about Jury for his jury. Are you a window shopper at the jeweler? I used to be. I mean, in my way, though. I ain't saying to suck away. Yeah. But I ain't really into jewelry like that. No. Um, more. Me neither. So I. I ain't really like a window shopper when it comes to that no more. Yeah. I ain't. I ain't like. I don't really care for it. I ain't like, wasting people time like that. Uh, that's. That's a waste of time. Yeah. And mostly for me, I won a window shopper for Jury. Because all the jury that was in them cases, everybody wanted that. I was more of a custom piece. Custom piece? Yeah. The AOBP shot. Yeah. Again, you wanted something that symbolizes what you really like. Yeah. That's what you do when you get Jury, Even though it's all. Unless you buying right. It's all bad investment. Yeah. Unless you buying it right. And it's worth whatever you paying. Correct. Yeah. And you appreciate it. Hollow Cubans out here. Y'all gotta stop. Y'all. I'll, um, be wanting to go out there and just crush it, boy. Y'all real life scam likely. For real. We gotta put that on the shirt. Real life scam likely. Yes, real life. Real life scam. Like real life. Cause y'all scam likely don't call like that no more. They don't. So y'all the real life scam likely. Walking around with these hollow Cuban links. They be super big dookie chains. Big Doogie chain be all. I'm telling you, man. Sound like baseball cards on the tie on the bike. What are you wearing? For real? Get it together, man. Get it together with that. But that's real. But I really want no window shopper for Jerry too much. Yeah, man. Um. Let's get into the first one. Um. It ain't my fault you done messed up your reup at the dice game. Who told you put a G up? That's the ones that be. That's them. Them same ones you just talked about. They be up there. Let me see this. Let me See that? Some of them m. Have fun, um, to me in that way, dicing. Do you even know how to dice a lot of that be. Oh, just let me go down here and throw these bones. Ain't got no money to put up. Then got mad at the end of the game when you done really lost. And you need to get that person their money. Are you responsible or is it your duty as a friend, family member to, uh, help somebody that messed up their money or, uh, messed up they re up or whatever they doing out here in the world? Nah, that's a definite. That's a hard no. Yeah, for me. Cause why should I? I haven't made that since you went your ass down there. I ain't go down there. And when no people come looking for you, don't be looking at me because I ain't responsible for your re up. For real. For real. Right? So, uh, that's a hard no for me. Yeah, it ain't. We not responsible for that. Take your own accountability. Take your own accountability. That's on you. That's your money. If you done got fronted something, that's your work. That's your responsibility. That's you. That is all on you, dog. That is not on us. Uh, and I gotta say this to add to it, if we do help you out to help your situation or whatever, appreciate the help that if we do help you out. Appreciate that. And don't forget it. Exactly. And don't do it again because don't do it again that second time around. I can't do it the second time. That's the time, uh, you should have known. Messed up my re up trying to help you. Exactly. And ain't no three strikers. It's one. Yeah. Ah, and it's a rap. Oh. Um. At the dice game. Who told you to put a G up? So we got gambling became way more legal than it's ever been. We got the Hard Rock casino gambling apps and all this out here. They showcasing a lot of it on tv. I can't help you. Me neither. I can't help you at all. Cause you think you the sports expert. Cause you done played basketball, football, or baseball back in the day. That's different. You don't know the game, and you don't have no control of that. Uh, who told you to put a g up? Uh, who got it? Was that little man on your shoulder told you that? You better holla at him again. I ain't got it, man. I, uh, ain't, ah, got it. But I wasn't. I Wasn't so into like gambling. The most gamble I probably done was a scratch off ticket. Yeah. I do a scratch off. So I ain't putting no G up. Uh, I'm, um. Put a $5. I put it up. If I got something to do with it. Yeah. If I'm betting on me. Yeah. If it's me versus you and I got my belief and I know I'm finna get this W. Then if I lose it, I gotta live with it, right? I gotta live with it. Your own accountability. Yeah. Yeah. But I don't. I don't. I can't put no G. I don't know that though. Uh, I just can't put a G. Especially at sports betting. It don't work. How you think it work. Like, I'm a basketball guy. I watch, I studied the game. I know a lot about basketball. Uh, I helped one of my partners. He was like, man, you watch basketball? Can you give me some picks? It was seven. I think he had seven. I got six out of the seven. Right. The last one, it didn't go to. It didn't go right. Uh, it was Boston versus New York. Boston ended up winning after they was just on a three game. No, they was on a three game losing streak. So they was playing bad and New York was playing good. New York was rolling. This was last year. So I was like, New York should get that. Boston beat him. Boston end up going on like a 10 game winning streak after that. That's my. And I know, I watched this. That's what I'm telling you. Six out of those seven games was right. Wow. Could have won like 2500 or something off that ticket. But it don't work. How you think it worked. That's crazy. It's too much. It's too much. Little details and nuance that go into that, Right. Like somebody might be tired of losing and just go out there and turn it up. You ain't got no control over there. That's why I don't bet like that. Right. That's. That's, um, bad. I don't get my fault. Some people be hitting. I'm good. It ain't my fault, right? Yeah, it ain't my fault either. That's all on you. Don't even look this way. Let's get into the next one. Listen, man, changed. I came up. I'm doing my thing, homie. I'm, um, holding. Holding. Oh, shit, man. The store owner watching you for something get stolen. Stolen. Stolen. Okay. Sticky fingers. Oh, man. Sticky. Sticky question. That go with this. Have you witnessed or have you been the person caught could have store owner watching you. Yeah. Yes, I. I'm living and learning. Hey, I'm a living person right here to tell you a story. Jesus. Uh, it wasn't even, it wasn't even worth it. In my situation, it's never worth it. Nah, I went in there, uh, for no reason. I like keychains. Back when that was Tampa Bay Mall. Tampa, uh, Bay Mall. These little keychains that used to say the little slogans on them, like, um, ooh, I got you back. Or something like that. It was rectangular and we used to be on the collector thing where we was trying to get the most that we can get. And it was one in specific that I knew somebody didn't have. Mhm. Boy, I got away with it. Yeah, uh, I had that little keychain. I say, I got this, boy, didn't everybody was like, how you get that? Or whatever. When I found out that I got that, I say, ooh, it's something, it's something else. I want big greedy, take it big greedy boy. Hey, I went in there, Uh, I got out of there too. Somebody was behind me this time. Oh, man. Store owner watching you. They watching me start getting stolen. Stolen. People had me on that camera, boy. But listen, they gave me a tap on hand, a little warning. That's all I needed. After that, I ain't going back in that store red handed. I ain't got no red handed stories. No, you got away with it. I got away with it. Some of my stuff was by accident too. Yeah, uh, it wasn't even intentionally. I got, I share this one. I think I, I share this one. This. When we were young, we stayed in West Tampa and this was like, this is our era of the BMX. This is like mid-90s, whatever. We stayed in Saint John. So this is when everybody wanted the caps, the metal, the metal caps for your tire, your air valve. Everybody wanted the metal caps and stuff to put on their bikes and all that. It was a car shop around the corner. So somebody went and came back. It was like, man, they got a bunch of cars out there with the caps on it. They got the dice, they got the eight balls, they got the, uh, skeleton heads, all that. So we like, man, we finna go get these. We hit the corner, we hit the corner. Everybody getting couched. We going retaking our time. We ain't even paying attention out there. Screwing slow. We screwing slow. I got dice, I got the eight balls. I got the bullet couch. I done Got three sets. We look up. Little short, little chico dude. He look tall then. Cause we down on the ground. Little chico do. Hey, man, what y'all doing? Catching on, man. So we. We can't even run. Cause we down. Everybody getting the screws out. So Nate M, our next door neighbor, Nate. Oh, God, he pointing at us. He the only chico with us. Everybody else black. You know, the chico with us, that was them still in the couch. He gonna get fired way too many times. That was still standing, man. I got on my, uh, bike and I hit it, man. Catch me. I was gone. I was gone. It always be one telling too. I got same thing with me. That's why that man was behind me. I had one person pointing at me like this. I almost got away with it. It be that one person, though. Shout out to the boosters, though, man. Yeah, shout out to them. Cause they slick and slide. Yeah, uh, yeah, y'all. Yeah, y'all do y'all thing out there, y'all can have it. Oh, shoot. That's it. We ain't got nothing else. Window shop. Uh, you got any windows? Other window shopper stores. The reason why I am a window shopper when it comes to my cars, music. The dealer, I guess they got sick of me because I used to go to the same ones for the simple fact they let me go in the car by myself. But it came to a time where they was like, we gotta ride with you. No problem. I ain't trying to steal the car. I just wanna, you know, see what they do, right? But these people didn't know what I was really doing in this car into this specific day where they decided to ride with me. So when I do get in these cars, one of the first things that I do is listen to the music, right? Rather, I'm gonna add more music to the car if I purchase it. I just want to know what these systems, the factory, sound like. Why are y'all charging me so much money for this car? Y'all gotta put all these things in. So I need to see if this music is right. I get in there and I put the most gangster is music in that system. Because I want to hear it knock to see if that thing gonna, um, Bus speakers or whatever. And I'm gonna turn it full blast. So he in the back seat. I think I played 50, but I played Hustler's Ambition. Damn. Hey, to, uh, my footsteps. Hustle the man in the back. I put it on, boy. He was right there doing like this. I said, you listen to 50 Cent. You listen to 50 Cent. He's like, it's good. It's good. I said, okay. Yeah, it sure is. Don't be in them people cars playing like this. I take it to the far most, man. Gonna check that car all the way out. You hear me? Crazy. Uh, all the way. I'm gonna put it on the interstate. I'm gonna put the pedal to the metal and all that. But you out here blasting these people music. Oh, yeah, I'mma do that. And y'all just one song either, the whole time. I ain't gonna flick. Look, I ain't even gonna let the whole song go through. Let me put on something else real quick. You know, they don't give you much time. That's a shame, dog. Uh, then I have to adjust my seat the way that I feel like I'mma listen to that song. Because if my seat don't sit right when I'm listening to my music, and dang, do I like this car. Is it a bucket seat? Is it a bucket seat? Is it a comfortable seat? I do. I do it all. Um, so I'm definitely a window shop. All right, so that's it. That's basically it, man. Short episode. Because, like I said, it ain't too much to dive into far as this. We just want to talk about window shopping. Have a good time. Right quick. Yeah. Let's get it to one. Gotta go. Okay. Do you remember to get Richard? I try. Soundtrack? I do. All right, so here we go. Hustler's ambition stand. Window shopper. I wait. I whoop your head, boy. Oh, Lord, I don't know, officer. Window shopper. Window shopper. Gone. Even though we doing and we doing the episode. Even though we're doing the episode. I'm sorry, but, uh, I'm with you. Window shopper. Got to go. What's next? That's hard because I don't know, officer. And I, uh, whip your head. But they like I say, I don't know, officer. I don't know, officer. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I hear it. I hear it. No, I don't know. I don't know who sh. I don't know who robbed you. I whoop your head, boy. Out of there. What? What? Yes, t. You. You know, after he said, I don't know who shot you? And then it break down that little. Nah, that's my stuff right now, boy. Yeah, Lord, you can hide. Whoop your head, boy. You know, I got to go I got to go. Hustler's ambition. What? Yeah, cuz. I don't know. And whoop your head, boy. That's two of my favorite right now. They is. They is. But I can't take Hustler ambition. I know. It's tough. No, no. A real. For real. No. What. So this. What, you. You got hustler ambition, and you got, Um. I don't know. I don't know, Officer. That's it. Which one win for you? How's his ambition? That one ambition? Yeah, it's her. It's. It's our Whoopi head. What? For me? Really? Well, I feel you on that, too. That's so. They so similar to, though. I'm talking about the talk with It. The talk with it now. I don't know, Officer Underrated, though. No, it's not. It's not. I don't know. Officer Underrated. Because you got mace, Prodigy. That's all bad, though. Uh, I whip your head for me is the winner just. We'll just put it like this. We 50 Cent fans. We 50 Cent fans. You know, for y'all, that's out there. This is the only person who's got a second song on the Play It Loud podcast. Yeah. And look, I ain't even. I'm gonna put you like this. Cause I ain't know nothing about him like that. M. Until I heard him playing that when he played. Cause I was on empty with music, uh, for a little minute. Cause I'm a. I'm a bone thug. It was dry. Unless you listening to Nelly Aluda. I was listening. I was. It was kind of dry. I had. I. I didn't. I had Jay Z. I did. And that's where I was at. That's where I was at. And when I tell. Y'all heard 50. Hey, that sh. Was out the Wonder. It was out the Wonder. Hey, so say that again for the people who ain't listening. Yeah. Uh, Jay z. You heard 50. What happened, man? Jay Z was out the window for real, saying, don't shout out to Big Guilt, cuz. Big Guilt be saying the truth. Yeah. 50k want nobody worry about no Jay Z. That jump was over with. But that's a whole different conversation. I wanted a whole another car. I wanted a whole swag car. I wanted a whole another everything. I wanted a whole another husband. The way he look. All that shout out. And he hear me shout out to 50. Get richer, T. I should have wore my shirt today. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah. That's okay. That's all right. I'mma rock you. All right, y'all. So, hey, appreciate y'all for tuning in to the Play Aloud podcast. It's your boy J solo. It's your girl Key in the building. Appreciate y'all tuning in. We out. Let's go.
