The Emetophobia Free Podcast

Pregnant with a sickness bug.. and stronger than ever! Emma's journey since overcoming Emetophobia.

EmetophobiaFree

Welcome to a very heartwarming episode!  Ex-emetophobe Emma joins ex-emetophobe and Emetophobia-Free coach Michelle Johnson to talk all things pregnancy and sickness bugs. Since overcoming their fears, both Michelle and Emma have fallen pregnant AND experienced a sickness bug! Both women have an amazing story to tell and are here to tell you that no matter what you might currently believe, you can overcome your fear, experience being sick and still be wonderfully Emetophobia-Free!

At the time of recording both Emma and Michelle were currently expecting, Emma at 33 weeks pregnant and Michelle at 22 weeks!
Before the programme, Emma often asked herself whether she would cope with being pregnant, and her phobia was definitely a barrier to wanting to become a mum!  The symptoms of pregnancy have shown their face for Emma, but rather than allowing her thoughts to take over, she has been able to gain perspective and manage her thinking! In her words ‘I’m not catastrophising anything, and I'm out the other side of Emetophobia’.

Both Michelle and Emma have experienced a sickness bug during their current pregnancies. Emma describes the experience as unpleasant but processed it in a helpful way by recognising that it was a short episode of discomfort and not the end of the world!

Emma remained calm because she accepted the event rather than catastrophising it. She realised that it was not as ‘traumatic’ as pre Emetophobia-Free Emma believed it to be!

Emma recognised that once she understood Emetophobia, she didn’t create the panic because she accepted that she was going to be sick rather than trying to control/avoid it. Following the sickness episode, Emma asked herself ‘why have I been worried about this for so long?’

Emma has also been sick in public during her pregnancy. Pre Emetophobia-Free, Emma was petrified of what people would think of her if she was sick. Now, Emetophobia-free, she has learned that this was something she was projecting rather than a factual situation!

In Emma’s words:
Don’t hesitate to engage in the programme because it will transform your life!
This programme is life changing, I would recommend it to anyone. If I can do it, you can do it!’

------------------------

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting/sickness: either yourself, other people, or both. Research suggests 0.1 to 8.8% percent of the population have a fear of being sick (Hout & Bouman, 2011). Emetophobia is a debilitating phobia, which significantly impacts your life: sufferers are chronically anxious and go to great lengths to avoid encountering anything sickness-related, which provides temporary relief but often results in a rollercoaster of anxiety, fear and exhaustion. Issues associated with emetophobia include: OCD, eating difficulties, anxiety-related gastric problems, phagophobia, tocophobia and more. Our goal is to raise awareness of this severe phobia and provide a solution for sufferers and their families.

You do not need to live with Emetophobia - you can COMPLETELY overcome it. The Thrive Programme for Emetophobia (also known as Emetophobia-Free) is the single most successful and predictable method for getting rid of your emetophobia. It has helped over 20,000 emetophobes around the world overcome their phobia.
