I Lost Who I Was While Trying to Help My Daughter Overcome Emetophobia: A Mum's Journey
Navigating life as a parent when your child is suffering from Emetophobia can be really difficult. Claire shares the difficulties she faced while helping her daughter through Emetophobia and how the pressure of the situation took a toll on her sense of self and identity. This is an inspiring story of a mum who dedicated so much of herself to her child that she lost herself along the way and had to rebuild herself in the wake of her daughter's experience.
Claire’s daughter, Lauren, was around 7 years old when she began showing
symptoms of emetophobia. Life for Lauren consisted of extreme anxiety surrounding social events and anything outside of her comfort zone.
Claire discusses the fact that Lauren believed an experience had led to her developing emetophobia. Lauren therefore felt she needed to avoid certain situations to remain safe. Due to a lack of understanding at the time, Claire began assisting with her avoidance. Little did she know that this was just strengthening her daughter’s belief that she couldn’t cope. Very quickly, the family stopped socialising, began cancelling plans and started to withdraw from social situations to ‘protect’ Lauren. Claire began experiencing her own increased anxiety due to the drastic change.
After countless hours of unsuccessful CBT and helpless googling, Claire discovered the Emetophobia-free programme. Once Claire had embarked on the programme she quickly realised that she wasn't helping Lauren due to her own limiting beliefs. This breakthrough led Claire to identify and improve her own catastrophic thinking which transformed her own life as well as her daughters!
Both Lauren and Claire quickly learned that by increasing their self-esteem and challenging those limiting beliefs, they could achieve a powerful and resilient mental health. As a result of the programme, Claire views herself as a better parent because she has overcome her own barriers and setbacks which were holding her back!
Since going through the programme herself, and understanding just how
life-changing it is, Claire is now a coach herself! In Claire’s own words “This programme has been the best thing I have ever done. It will change yours and your families lives as well as your relationships”

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting/sickness: either yourself, other people, or both. Research suggests 0.1 to 8.8% percent of the population have a fear of being sick (Hout & Bouman, 2011). Emetophobia is a debilitating phobia, which significantly impacts your life: sufferers are chronically anxious and go to great lengths to avoid encountering anything sickness-related, which provides temporary relief but often results in a rollercoaster of anxiety, fear and exhaustion. Issues associated with emetophobia include: OCD, eating difficulties, anxiety-related gastric problems, phagophobia, tocophobia and more. Our goal is to raise awareness of this severe phobia and provide a solution for sufferers and their families.
You do not need to live with Emetophobia - you can COMPLETELY overcome it. The Thrive Programme for Emetophobia (also known as Emetophobia-Free) is the single most successful and predictable method for getting rid of your emetophobia. It has helped over 20,000 emetophobes around the world overcome their phobia.
