The Loss Mothers
It is with an open heart that we introduce The Loss Mothers to you. This project will unfold over the coming months to encompass a series of podcasts and a photographic essay that bring together the stories and experiences of mothers who have loved, lost and grieved the death of their child.Women from all walks of life are being asked to tell their story, to share their experience of motherhood, and how the death of their child has changed their world. We will explore the stories of mothers, young and old, who have lost babies, children and adult children. We will delve into the uniqueness of each woman’s experience while coming to understand that the bonds of shared grief create universal threads that echo through time. The aim of this project is to bear witness, gain insight, bring light and honour stories that help us to understand the complexity and depth of a mother’s grief. With loveBec and Caitlin

This is the story of Pamella and Cohen. Cohen was a bright, loving, honest and warm 17 year old. He had plans for the future, he had a girlfriend, was mature in talking about his feelings and his mental health with his mum and always had a 'thumbs up' for the camera.Cohen died by suicide at home, during his mid year ATAR exams. He had battled anxiety and depression openly and honestly with his family and professional support. Sadly there was a communication breakdown at his school, his diagnosis was communicated clearly from Pamella but unclearly amongst staff. While staff and teachers came to have concerns for Cohens mental health and recognised a young male in crisis- communicated through emails - there was no communication to Cohens family- despite written discussion amongst staff that there needed to be.Cohen's parents Pamella and Chris have continued to be Cohens biggest advocates and in turn advocates for all and are reminding us all that Suicide Prevention is Everyones Business.
