The Loss Mothers
It is with an open heart that we introduce The Loss Mothers to you. This project will unfold over the coming months to encompass a series of podcasts and a photographic essay that bring together the stories and experiences of mothers who have loved, lost and grieved the death of their child.Women from all walks of life are being asked to tell their story, to share their experience of motherhood, and how the death of their child has changed their world. We will explore the stories of mothers, young and old, who have lost babies, children and adult children. We will delve into the uniqueness of each woman’s experience while coming to understand that the bonds of shared grief create universal threads that echo through time. The aim of this project is to bear witness, gain insight, bring light and honour stories that help us to understand the complexity and depth of a mother’s grief. With loveBec and Caitlin

This is the story of Alannah, Stuart and Angela.Alannah is Mum to Stuart, Stacey and Angela. The children were each born close together. A family of 5 living in regional Victoria. Stuart and Angela were similar in personality- fun, sporty and happily loud.Stuart had become a proud father and commenced his culinary career-as his dream was to become a traveling chef.Angela a kind, bright, bubbly , social teenager who loved to laugh. Angela was not afraid to stand up for people and for what she believed in.Stuart a loving older brother to his two younger sisters became a shadow of his former vibrant self due to workplace bullying and the family became very concerned about his mental health. Watching his decline had a deep impact on Angela which resulted in her taking her own life in August 2002. A month later in September 2002 Stuart also took his own life.Through such tragic loss Alannah was instrumental in bringing the Suicide Prevention Awareness Network - known as SPAN to Central Victoria. Thank you Alannah for sharing your story and for raising suicide awareness - this all too prevalent, at times silent epidemic - in our community.SPAN- Suicide Prevention Awareness Network Central Victoria"Tough times pass" SPAN Bendigo & Central Victoria - SPAN Central Victoria (spancv.org.au)Please subscribe, rate and review wherever you are listening to The Loss Mothers.
