The Loss Mothers
It is with an open heart that we introduce The Loss Mothers to you. This project will unfold over the coming months to encompass a series of podcasts and a photographic essay that bring together the stories and experiences of mothers who have loved, lost and grieved the death of their child.Women from all walks of life are being asked to tell their story, to share their experience of motherhood, and how the death of their child has changed their world. We will explore the stories of mothers, young and old, who have lost babies, children and adult children. We will delve into the uniqueness of each woman’s experience while coming to understand that the bonds of shared grief create universal threads that echo through time. The aim of this project is to bear witness, gain insight, bring light and honour stories that help us to understand the complexity and depth of a mother’s grief. With loveBec and Caitlin

Kathy's family story may have touched many of our listeners lives already. Kathy and her husband Ralph Kelly together with their children (Madeline & Stuart) were thrust into the media after the tragic 'one punch' homicide of their eldest son and brother Thomas in 2012. After the death of Thomas, life unavoidably changed for the family. Sadly it then set off a chain of events that tragically led to Stuart (their youngest son) taking his own life 4 years later.Kathy and Ralph together have been the faces, the heart and the soul of the Stay Kind Foundation (formally known as the Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation) and the Take Kare safe spaces. There have been so many incredible achievements made out of such tragedy that have and are continuing to make our country a better place for our children. Its been a selfless journey.Today though we are here to talk about Kathy Kelly the mum. The mother in a family of 5. The mum that has endured grief, trauma, heartbreak and pain - in the public eye- and continued to grow as mother and wife to her family. The mum that is shouldering the pain and wounds that society has inflicted on her. As you listen you too will understand how our society and culture let down and did not protect the Kelly boys. Importantly you will learn about Thomas and Stuart's life from their mum Kathy.Chatting with Kathy it is so clear that Thomas and Stuart are part of her and she lights up when she speaks about them. Two young boys that had been loved deeply were growing and developing into young men that held a lot of promise and had a lot to offer our world. While their opportunity in the physical world has been taken away their lives continue to make a big difference. This is the story of Kathy and her sons Thomas and Stuart.Part 2 coming Thursday 15th AprilHosts: Rebecca Gallagher & Caitlin Epps The Loss Mothers | Facebook Instagram @thelossmothersGuest: Kathy KellyTo purchase Kathy & Ralphs book- Too Soon, Too Late - Too Soon, Too Late - Ralph and Kathy Kelly - 9781760632786 - Allen & Unwin - Australia (allenandunwin.com)kathykelly.com.au - to explore more about the Kelly's story or to get in touch with Kathy for inspirational speakingStay Kind | Promoting kindness in everyday life- To join the Stay Kind movement and take the pledge to be kind and promote kindness in everyday life.To all our beautiful listeners ....
