#4 Appreciating the 2nd Plane Child with Megan Eilers and Melinda Smith

Today we dive deep into the 2nd Plane of development with Villa di Maria Lower Elementary guides, Melinda Smith and Megan Eilers. The 2nd plane of development, according to Dr. Maria Montessori, spans the ages of 6 to 12 years old and, in general, is characterized by relative stability and rationality compared to the planes that precede and follow. In this episode, Megan and Melinda help us identify some of the markers of this transition from the 1st to 2nd plane, characteristics you might notice in your own child around the age of 6. In our conversation, we explore the beauty of the Montessori Elementary classroom in particular and how it compares to the Children’s House as well as a traditional/non-Montessori classroom. It’s so neat to hear the passion these guides have for this age group and be reminded of how the Montessori approach makes such a difference in the life of the Elementary child.
