When near-death experiences transform your creative purpose

S.J. Mendelson

Ryan Capliger's story begins with darkness but transforms into a brilliant testament to human resilience. Growing up in Hamilton, Ohio amidst what he simply describes as "nothing but trauma," Ryan's journey illustrates how profoundly life can change when someone finally recognizes your potential.

The conversation takes an unexpected turn as Ryan reveals a harrowing near-death experience. While celebrating his friend Shawn's birthday, an innocent shot of Jägermeister went terribly wrong, sending Ryan into respiratory distress. After Shawn performed life-saving CPR, Ryan spent three days in a coma, during which he experienced a profound vision of Jesus telling him, "you're never going to talk again." Rather than taking this literally, Ryan interpreted this message as a calling to express himself through writing and creative pursuits – a divine redirection that sparked his creative renaissance.

Since that pivotal moment, Ryan has channeled his experiences into multiple creative ventures. His novella "The Darkness From Within" explores themes of pain, abuse, and trauma, while his children's book series "Frankie Frog" demonstrates his versatility as a creator. For each book, Ryan writes accompanying songs available on streaming platforms, with merchandise including coloring books and soon-to-be-released plush toys. His creative spirit extends to songwriting collaborations with local artists, including his friend Shawn, whose quick action saved Ryan's life and gave him the chosen family he never had.

Ryan's powerful message resonates throughout the conversation: "We're born innocent and people take that innocence away, but you have that inner light somewhere inside of you to fight all that darkness and do anything and everything you want in life." His story reminds us that transformation is possible even from the darkest circumstances, especially when someone finally sees the potential within us that we couldn't see ourselves. Discover Ryan's creative works at FrankieFroggg.com and RyanCaplinger.com, and remember – the only person who can stop you from achieving your dreams is yourself.

MORNIN BITCHES PODCAST

Speaker 1:

And because I took a break, you know, from doing this because I've been very depressed because my husband's dementia.

Speaker 2:

I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, honey. So I haven't felt like doing a lot of stuff, but you know I'm back doing it again. You know I also thought nobody really wants to listen to what I've old, some old ad talking Right, I don't know. You have a lot of following, so I think everybody does want to listen to what I've old, some old ad talking right, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

You have a lot of following, so I think everybody does want to listen.

Speaker 1:

Oh, thanks. So tell me all about you. Where are you from?

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm from Ohio and really my childhood is really nothing to even talk about. It was nothing but trauma. But now, as an adult, I'm living my absolute best version of me.

Speaker 1:

And what does that mean? The best version of you.

Speaker 2:

Meaning I'm doing everything I didn't know that I could do, Like when you're broken and you come from trauma and you know SA, because that's what we'll say here you just, you feel like you don't know who, you are worthless. But then it only takes that one person in your life that sees something in you that you didn't see, and then you just you come alive and you can do anything and everything you want in life. So I wrote a book called the Darkness From Within and it is a novella of short stories about pain, abuse, trauma, divorce, all the horrible things that we go through in life, Sometimes our fault, sometimes not our fault, but you find that inner light and fight that darkness and you can do anything.

Speaker 1:

The only person that stops you in life from doing what you want is yourself. Very true, you know.

Speaker 2:

I believe that I want everybody to be themselves, if at possible and in this crazy world today. So you're from Ohio? What part? I live in Hamilton, Ohio.

Speaker 1:

Which is weird because I lived in Cleveland for three years. So what?

Speaker 2:

part. Oh, it's probably like three hours away. Oh, okay, and you wrote this novella, yes, and now I've written a children's book that is going to be a series and it's called Frankie Frog, and I also write a song for every book that you can stream on Spotify and Amazon and iHeartRadio. The first edition is called Hop Across the Poop Log with Frankie Frog. It's a potty training book, and it also comes with a print-on-demand coloring book that I've designed, and I'm working right now with a company that's designing a plush Frankie Frog, so that's in the works.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I love frogs. It's one of like. I used to collect all types of little frog pins and frog sculptures and frog statues I love. Oh. So what made you write this book?

Speaker 2:

I honestly couldn't tell you. This mind never stops. I'm always writing.

Speaker 1:

Oh, what sign are you.

Speaker 2:

What is it?

Speaker 1:

What sign are you?

Speaker 2:

honey, I'm Aries.

Speaker 1:

Oh, an Aries, Of course, the first sign of the zodiac fire.

Speaker 2:

Yes, and I just released a song last night that's out for streaming everywhere. It's called Last Night.

Speaker 1:

Oh wonderful Boy, you're multi-talented, huh.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I'm not. Well see, here's the thing. We were at a bar on Sean's birthday, December the 11th his birthday Right and we took one shot of Jaeger and it went down my lungs and I aspirated and I died. Oh, and he found me in the restroom, because he knows I don't do number two in public. And so he found me in the restroom and drug me out and started CPR and I was in a coma for three days.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my God.

Speaker 2:

Yes, wow. And so when I came back to life, I came back with a vengeance, like I'm going to do everything I know I can do.

Speaker 1:

Now, did you see anything? Do you remember anything?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I actually did.

Speaker 1:

What did you see?

Speaker 2:

So I was in, and this is true. I even told Sean this when I woke did what did you see? So I was in, and this is true. I even told Sean this. When I woke up, I was in a white room with a long white table and there was just two chairs mine and Jesus and he was in a robe with the red and the long hair and the gold tassel and he looked at me and he said you're never going to talk again. And I thought what does that? And then I woke up and I was muffled from being in a coma and my hands were strapped. So I thought what in the holy hell? I ain't never going to talk again. But what I've learned through that is that means I'm going to tell my story through my writing wow, now are you and Sean married no, we're just best friends, brothers.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no okay, I was just wondering.

Speaker 2:

All right, no, no, no, everybody thinks that when they see us, but he is the absolute greatest guy. But just like he gave me a family, I never have my chosen family oh, I love that.

Speaker 1:

That's so wonderful to find a best friend like that.

Speaker 2:

It really is.

Speaker 1:

It's an amazing, amazing story. So what do you want to be when you grow up?

Speaker 2:

I want to be a writer. I want to be a bestselling author. I want to. I want people to reach out to me artists and say write me a song, cause I've already written a song for a local artist here in our hometown and another local artist, and Sean even has an upcoming album and we co-wrote together.

Speaker 1:

Oh, wow, wow. He's so creative. That's wonderful. I mean so your message? You know that I want to say I always bring messages Because you know I've had a lot of different people from TikTok in the past. Come on, people who have survived surgeries and death, and you know, like burned One of my people who came on she has a whole other story to her husband, burnt her so. But you know, like people who have transitioned and so forth and so on, I like people who have overcome things in their life. I love to be, you know, who can give a good message like that to other people. What would you say your message is?

Speaker 2:

My message is we go through things in life that we're born innocent and people take that innocence away, that innocence away. But you have that inner light somewhere inside of you to fight all of that darkness and do anything and everything you want in life. And I did not know that, but it only takes that one person to show you and then you can do anything and I am going to do it.

Speaker 1:

Well, I'm glad to, and you love Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2:

Love her. I'm so mad at Donald Trump for his comment. Like he should talk. He said I hate her. Now do we have anything better to do with our life than to say I hate Taylor Swift?

Speaker 1:

Well then he said she wasn't hot anymore.

Speaker 2:

I know, but did you see her snap back?

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

Well, she made a post today and you know that song she sings where I don't remember the name of the song, but she's telling everybody like you want to go ahead and talk and talk, but I'm going to be me. Anyway, she reposted the video of that song to snap back at him.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, she's so creative. Oh my God, she sure is.

Speaker 2:

She gives back. What people don't realize is she's so giving and kind Is she your favorite artist. Yes, 100%. Oh, okay, Look look giving and kind.

Speaker 1:

Is she your favorite artist? Yes, 100. Oh, okay, look, look at that. Isn't that wonderful? That's great, do you? I know you want to meet her right.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I want to meet her, but I did go see her in concert. Sean got us. We went um and seen her to the at the errors tour in boston, massachusetts. How was she amazing? Everything, I, everything, I, never everything. I'll never forget it. I even wrote a song called.

Speaker 1:

Taylor Swift after the concert and put it on TikTok. Oh, that's one, god you're. So you're a creative genius. It's all I'm going to wow we. I mean, it's like you know. You have a great message that we could survive anything.

Speaker 1:

I really I know, I know. So you know you grew up. I never heard of Hamilton, but that doesn't mean you know I don't. You know, lived in Cleveland for four years. The people in Ohio are amazing, thank you. I mean I love Ohio people. They loved and welcomed me, you know, and warmly welcomed me and you know this will definitely be on Spotify. I have to do all the math because everything changes Now that I'm doing this again. Oy, vey right.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

I had to know what you're an aries. Honey aries can. My sons and aries can do everything.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

I do believe that well, that's one, yeah, so like, yeah, I was well on saturdays were. Oh, I'm gonna invite people again. You know, I was doing it and I thought, oh god, I gotta do this again and I have to go. I'm going on auditions. I auditioned in a bathing suit yesterday way to go oh my god. So, my darling Ryan, if nobody told you they love you today, then I love you because you're you.

Speaker 2:

I love you.

Speaker 1:

I want to wish you luck with your book, your songs, anything else.

Speaker 2:

And then I've got other books in the works. I have a book called look up at the stars. It's a novel, wow. And I'm writing music. And I'm writing music for artists and, like I said, watch out for Sean. He's the Celtic rebel. He has a new single coming out.

Speaker 1:

Oh, now let me ask you this Is there any message that you want to give to the people who are going to listen to this?

Speaker 2:

And there will be people who listen to my podcast again- Of course, I just want everyone to know that, through people like you that care about people for who they are and no other reason than just them, that you give people that platform to share their story and let everybody know that. I want everyone to know that they can do anything they want in life. Anything Like if someone tells you no, you can do it. And Taylor Swift said when you start hearing no is when you're at your top.

Speaker 1:

Isn't that wonderful. Well, thank you again, Senor Ryan.

Speaker 2:

Love it. Thank you, bye.
