Tara Entrieri & Victoria Magda

We're returning to the concept of play and pleasure, but this time we're looking through the lens of your potential instead of trauma. The spiritual community tends to keep us in one of two places: toxic positivity, where we simply discard anything difficult or uncomfortable, or being so trauma-focused that it overactivates our nervous system, taking us beyond the point of receiving the message and into the realm of repeating narratives. It's a spectrum we all navigate in our personal practice, but how can you honor your emotions without dwelling on them?

With the lens of potentiality, we allow ourselves to focus on where we want to go instead of dwelling on where we've been. When shadows and triggers arise, we can address them from a higher perspective and a calmer nervous system. That's why, in this episode, we take a closer look at how to embrace pleasure and play when shame is released, and you feel free and confident to explore.

It's important to find pleasure in the things we have to do daily, especially the ones we might not want to do. Honor the discomfort, assess if it aligns with your values, and discover the joy in being human. Instant gratification can impact our hormones in a way that leads to numbness. Even in spiritual work, we often rush to the next thing, chasing that spiritual high. Remember to breathe and find small moments of gratitude and pleasure in all things; you're infusing your surroundings with your frequency, so let it be joyful!

One barrier we might encounter is our relationship with receiving. Receiving is the act of opening ourselves up to receiving something from someone else, for our own benefit. Most of the time, the first thoughts that come to mind are, "Are they okay with this? Are they happy? Do they like this? Are they annoyed?" When you're given something, it's for you. Practice how it feels to have the focus entirely on you and receive. There are practices you can engage in to explore this pleasure through giving and receiving. Tap into these experiences while staying present and open about your needs and boundaries. How do you feel when that experience is happening, and how do you feel when it's over? Examining these questions when looking at the situations or people that bring you pleasure will allow you to move past pre-anxiety and discover how your frequency blends with theirs and the healing it offers. We're all on our own journey to find our freedom to express and experience pleasure, so let's not judge others for their choices; instead, be the example of what is possible.
