In this first part of our chat we discuss Jess' upbringing and background, the challenges and institutional racism she has faced as a first generation Mexican-American with a single undocumented mother. We also dive into Jess' personal world view, what propelled her to want to study psychology and work with kids, and the importance of emotional intelligence when helping young minds to bloom (and also just when existing in the world, at any age).
