Hey Ange. Hey Les, how are you? I'm good. Hey Tope. Oh, do you hear her? Yeah, I hear her.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Hi there. Welcome to another episode of Black Boomer Besties from Brooklyn.
unknownBrooklyn.
SPEAKER_01Actually, it's a mini episode, so I should title it properly.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to another mini episode of Black Boomer Besties from Brooklyn. Yeah, we're still on hiatus for a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Can I can I you interrupted my Brooklyn? Oh. Okay, do it again.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead. Welcome to another mini episode of Brat Black Boomer. Black Boomer Bresties. Yeah, little black cardonic.
SPEAKER_00Black Boomer besties from Brooklyn. Brooklyn!
SPEAKER_01There you go.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, so listen, I have been seeing some incredible achievements um by older folks that have blown me away. Like us, older people like us? Olderer than us, even. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And um, so it just got me thinking. Well, let me tell you a few of the people that I saw. There is this 81-year-old named Miss Nora. She deadlifted 310 pounds at 80 years old. 310 pounds. Tell me you can't do tell what tell me you can't do whatever. I can't do a third of that. Well, obviously, she trained. Do you know what I mean? She didn't wake up one morning and say, hey, she might have been training for 80 years. Who knows? She trained, she got to that.
SPEAKER_01Could you imagine if she woke up one morning and said, Let me try deadlifting, and then, you know, like a cartoon or stretch atoms? Remember that toy. Her arms would stay down.
SPEAKER_00But anyway. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01So But that's impressive.
SPEAKER_00And then there was another gentleman, I don't remember his name, um, at the pen relays, he was 70 and he ran a hundred-meter dash in under 14 seconds, in like 13.47 or something like that, seconds. 70. 70.
SPEAKER_01All right, that's getting closer to our age.
SPEAKER_00Wait, wait, wait, hold on. So, okay, could you do that at 50?
SPEAKER_01Listen, listen, let me just tell you. Stop it. The only way I could run a hundred meter in under 14 seconds is if Godzilla was chasing me.
SPEAKER_00All right, yeah. I I probably still couldn't do that. I would just trip over my fly at that point. Wow. So anyway, it got me thinking about this trip that we have coming up. We've been talking about it for a while. Yeah. And um, you know, just our recognizing that there's certain things that we want to get back to exercising, eating, eating well, resting, and things like that. And so I was um talking to one of my children about it, and I said, Yeah, Auntie Leslie and I are taking a uh a little um retreat together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we decided just to make it easy, we're gonna go to Florida and we're gonna be stationed at her house in Florida. But and as soon as I said that, they were like, wait a minute, mom, you and Auntie Leslie at the house, it's gonna be runs to Target, it's gonna be runs to home good, it's gonna be runs to um Marshall's, and we're gonna be working on the house, doing wallpaper. And first of all, I was like, you don't know me, you don't know her, but you know they know us quite, quite, quite well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, Les, what are we gonna do? So, yeah. Okay, I know are we gonna hold each other accountable?
SPEAKER_01That's what I just said. We're really going to push each other and hold each other accountable. Because already I said, Okay, I gotta schedule the car maintenance for one day, and then I gotta do, and then so you're the one that said, Les. Yeah, it's not gonna be that way because after we return from this trip, it's on. If we have to, you know, yeah, we have to present ourselves in a new way, exactly, or at least a new mindset, right?
SPEAKER_00So, how do we go from wanting to do it to ensuring that we do it? That's number one. Number two, I even talking about home goods and target, I got excited, but so you know what I mean. We both enjoy decorating and finding bargains and um and staying up all night doing projects and all the hammer and and and sewing and all those things. So we have to really um plan what what is it failing to plan is planning to fail. But not just that, Ange.
SPEAKER_01At this point, I think that you've admonished me enough enough and warned me enough that not to schedule any projects. That's one thing. Yeah, but not just that, that this is a different type of get together for us. We'll likely do a podcast episode, yeah, which is fine. Right. Um, but we're also going to schedule um some of the wellness things that we discussed.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Probably uh speaking uh to a nutritionist or um doing some dietary cooking class is nice. Right. Um, I'll find if if we can do like some relaxation, yoga meditation or massage at the beach or whatever, you know. So it's that it's gonna be that kind of exactly. Yeah, it's not gonna be the work-at-home week.
SPEAKER_00I know that I admonished you.
SPEAKER_01I get that, but I'm not afraid of fear though, you're right.
SPEAKER_00Well, that I don't fear you, but also because I'm weak. I'm weak, it may just take a feather to change my mind. It's like, come on, just one run. And I would be like, okay, just one run. Right, you're right. Get the sewing machine, just one. So we have to really, really, really um um, like like when we're exercising for that long, almost two-year run where we were exercising, we had to really force each other. And we knew sometimes we didn't want to, and you're like, come on, Ange, come on, come on, Les. So we really have to make that commitment. And I guess a part of it is talking about it here, right?
SPEAKER_01Because we're gonna have to talk about how the folks will hold us accountable, but not only that, I did take a good step because remember, I ordered the wallpaper. You did, and I started thinking about it, and I'm like, I know we could pull this off in a number of hours. Up right, none of that, right? So I hired the guy, so so one of the days somebody's gonna be working, it won't be us.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right, okay. If you say so, I I I wanna I wanna believe you.
SPEAKER_01I wanna his name is Robert, he's a real person.
SPEAKER_00I hope you do it like towards the end of the trip so we're not um it's it doesn't jump start. It doesn't jump. It's the day No, it really is. Is it really? Oh, because you're saying a couple extra days. Okay, yeah, I forgot. All right. No, I'm uh I'm really looking forward to that reboot. Um my desires for the the goals of the trip, I should say.
SPEAKER_01Don't tell me you want to come away from their lifting, deadlifting 300 pounds.
SPEAKER_00Well, okay. Maybe not that, but I do consistency. I would like to start right away and to be consistent in um at least going for a walk. Uh, I can't really do that because my ankle, this shock therapy, let me fix that. It's not with uh it's not a bolt of anything, it is um uh what shock waves. I'm getting shock wave therapy on my ankle, the tendonitis in my ankle, and it actually um it actually causes inflammation on purpose, and that I don't really understand the mechanics of it, but it's supposed to help in the healing process. It's very painful, um, but it's supposed to be 80-90% effective. Um I've had two treatments. There's a third one after I come back. So I'm not sure what um they said that I should just do normal stuff and do my stretches and stuff. So I think I'll be able to do some walking, just not a hike or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah, like I'm able to hike.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. And and um I still have to wear my brace, so it should be okay. So, anyway, consistency in being active, consistency in Leslie, we're not stopping at that supermarket which will remain unnamed to load up on any of the Caribbean delicacies that we and treats that we like. We're gonna have some healthy eating. Okay, but you know, that I I understand.
SPEAKER_01No, I understand. That's your trigger.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, and actually, you lack self-control in that place.
SPEAKER_01I lack self-control in every place, which is, you know, in any place. You know how I am.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so okay, so we won't be stopping there. That that's a regular run for us. Well, we can stop there, but just not go into that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, all of a sudden now we're gonna stop there.
SPEAKER_00No, here's the thing: we can stop there, but only I go through the checkout line because that's where all the stuff that you like to load up on the conveyor belt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I'll I'll all right. No, no, but in all honesty, we we can do better, we will do better, and this is gonna be a reset for us. All right. And I am not going to start deadlifting, but I am going to start um at least planning out with the next couple of months to the year in terms of wellness and fitness is gonna be for me. And this is gonna be the start for it. So I'm making that commitment in public and I'm making it to you pro personally, and yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, same here. I make that commitment to you, Pinky Swear.
SPEAKER_01Pinky Swear, or like no, I won't do that.
SPEAKER_00Um, that's like him. Um, and all right, so we're gonna do that. So just you know, guys, if there's anything that you need to recommit to, um whatever it is, you know. They can find an accountability partner. You can find an accountability partner. We can be um hit us up. Hey, you can always reach us through our email or our website, blackboomerbesties.com. Um on Instagram, or on Instagram, or on our Facebook page. We are BlackBoomer Besties all over the place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, are you guys liking us on our Facebook page, by the way? What did you say? Are they clicking like and subscribe and all of that stuff? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't, I'm not sure. I'm not sure. We gotta get some more reviews, guys. Please, the more the more we get reviews on these platforms, the more the algorithms share our content with other people. So if you want to be a good citizen and check and an honorary bestie. Be an honorary bestie, um, please like, share. Um, leaving reviews is also a great way to get us out there um to uh make sure more people are able to um find us. So we appreciate that. We're not gonna be here long. We just wanted to um let you know that we are gonna do this. We've been talking about it for a while. The tickets have been purchased. We are going to do this, and you'll be hearing about it because as Leslie mentioned, we are gonna record an episode when while we are together, of course, we might even send some bikini pics. What we make no commitment.
SPEAKER_01If Martha Stewart can do a spread in sports illustrated again, but you know, I'm laughing. I'm I'm kidding about this because oh heck no, will I be putting out some bikini um um pics? However, Martha Stewart, I don't know how old she is. She's she's 81. Oh, okay. I mean, she looks terrific, but the point is why not?
SPEAKER_00Um you really want to answer to is that a rhetorical question?
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no. I'm saying that if there is something that you want to do, get I'm certainly at that point in my life where I don't really care about the naysayers anymore. And I know I have cellulite on my legs, and I know that I have skin and this and that. I know people that don't wear short sleeves because they have turkey arms. Um, but um, I certainly do. But so what? Who cares? You know what I mean? Yeah, like um my mom and my husband, they hate it when I wear ripped jeans. I'm wearing ripped shorts right now. But um, but why not? You know, I'm not trying to look young. I know how old I am. And if it's what I what I feel good in and what makes me comfortable, and if Martha Stewart wants to be comfortable and seen in sports illustrated in swimwear, I saw a brief picture of it and she looked terrific.
SPEAKER_00Why not? Do you think they do you think they retouch any of those photos? What do you think? They probably do, of course they do. That's marketing. But they do that with the with um young models also, so but my bikini picks won't be retouched. I once saw um, I forget who it was. Oh my gosh, it's uh maybe it'll come to me before we end the recording. But she posted an unretouched.
SPEAKER_01I remember she said something about um, I do not want my pictures retouched. Who said that?
SPEAKER_00Who?
SPEAKER_01Um, I don't recall, but I remember there was someone that um presented herself and said, I do not want them retouched.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but people went in on her. I mean, it was so awful.
SPEAKER_01I don't recall that.
SPEAKER_00Like people went in on um, you know, ooh, you know, if I were you, I wouldn't, and oh my god, you know, just making really awful. There were a few people who were supportive, of course, but my gosh, I tell you, people come for you. But anyway, you um you need not um be put off by any negative impression of you, just be comfortable in your own skin, in your own skin, and um do do the thing that you want to do. So uh so anyway, we will be back with um tomorrow another episode um from the state of Florida. Hmm. Well, we'll just be together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, don't advertise.
SPEAKER_00We'll we'll write we'll leave we'll leave the rest of that alone.
SPEAKER_01We will be in just be in a sunny climate.
SPEAKER_00We will be in a sunny state, um, and we will um send you a shout out from there. All right, see you next time, folks.
SPEAKER_01All right, this has been another episode of Black Puma Besties from Brooklyn.
SPEAKER_00Brooklyn! See you guys.
