E82: Gabe Gerhauser / The Sub-3 Marathon Mindset & The Pursuit of Balance

Hannah Mulhern Episode 82

On this episode of the Do Epic Shit Today podcast, I sit down with the incredibly insightful and balanced human Gabe Gerhauser, a 7-time marathon runner who has been immersed in the running world for over five years, and has achieved the impressive feat of completing a sub-3-hour marathon. He's also a certified running coach and the founder of his own business, Sonoran Running. (Fun fact: marathon running runs in his family—his mom has completed over 75 marathons!)

In our conversation, we dive into the physical aspects and strategies of marathon training, but we also explore deeper topics, including:

  • The pursuit of and MAINTAINING balance during intense training cycles
  • Reframing the feeling of being overwhelmed, rather than associating it with negativity
  • Understanding what you can control and letting go of what you can’t
  • Maintaining a big-picture perspective when you don’t always meet your goals (whether race-related or personal)

Running is incredibly applicable to life, and this episode highlights that perfectly.

We touch on topics that resonate across various areas: starting a business,  training for your first (or tenth) marathon, and how someone as driven as Gabe finds a way to balance enjoying life while accomplishing EPIC goals.
