S4 E09 - Cane or Weapon? Inside Al Green's Capitol Controversy
The podcast discusses Congressman Al Green being censured for waving his cane at President Trump in the Capitol. It argues that if Green were a Republican, he would face harsher repercussions, referencing previous incidents such as the January 6th charges for brandishing flagpoles and the 1856 assault on Senator Charles Sumner with a cane. The script highlights the inconsistency in the justice system, suggesting that actions by the left are often excused while similar actions by the right are heavily penalized, using both historical and recent events to illustrate this perceived bias.
Commentary on trending issues brought to you with a moderate perspective.
Congressman Al Green was censured for waving his cane at President Trump in the Capitol, but if he were a Republican, he'd be in jail. Let's talk about precedent first. January 6th, the DOJ charged people with felonies for brandishing flagpoles in the capitol, not for hitting anyone, just for holding them. That was called"violent". That was called"an attack on democracy", and the left hasn't stopped talking about it. Al Green waved a blunt weapon at the president of the United States inside the same capitol. Wait, a cane is a weapon. Uh, don't play dumb. A wooden or metal cane is a hardened club. Police have classified them as weapons in multiple criminal cases and history backs it up. This isn't even the first time a cane was used as a threat inside the same halls of congress. In 1856, pro-slavery, Democrat Preston Brooks, nearly killed abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner, right on the Senate floor. Sumner was beaten so badly with a cane that he couldn't return to work for three years. That's what canes can do in the hands of an angry politician. And that attack also happened in the capitol. Greene knew exactly what he was doing when he copied Sumner, his predecessor. I realied Trump is not a wimpy Democrat, but he still might have feared for his life. And if you think the Sumner incident is ancient history, let's talk about something more recent, something the media won't talk about. Just this past January, a man in Miami used a stick to kill two people and severely injure. Two more.
Sky 10 flying above downtown Miami shows a body covered with a tarp police say two homeless men were attacked and beaten by a man with a stick. He then attacked a couple of the four victims, two are dead and two are in the hospital.
Digital Audio Interface (USB3 Digital Audio) & USB3 Video-3:Now, if he had used a gun, the media would've called it a mass shooting. How do we know? Because they call every shooting incident with four or more victims, a mass shooting, whether it's four deaths or for people with bullet bruises from a ricochet. With two people killed. Miami was definitely a"mass sticking." So tell me why is Al Green getting a free pass? Are we going too far here? I don't think so. When Elon Musk gave a smiling, heartfelt wave to spectators, he was accused of a hate crime of giving the Nazi salute, and the media went through contortions to make it into a threat. Congressman Green's gesture was a threat without any media spin. It was a threat. A man with a stick can be deadly. History proves it. Recent events prove it, and waving a weapon at a president inside the Capitol is no small thing. If a Trump supporter had done this, we all know the FBI would be knocking at his door. Before the same night was over, but why isn't there outrage? Because we've been conditioned to accept this lopsided system of justice. When the left crosses the line, it's excused as passion, righteous anger, or just a misunderstanding when the right does something far less extreme. It's criminalized used to justify sweeping crackdowns and treated as a threat to democracy itself. If we refuse to demand equal justice, then this will keep happening because the amount of crap you take is the amount of crap you're gonna get.
