From Earthly Attachments To Eternal Hope With Sister Deb Osborne
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Some messages arrive like a tap on the shoulder; others like a bell. Today’s word rings clear: this world isn’t our home, and trying to settle here only deepens our restlessness. We open scripture and our hearts to reset what we chase, what we fear, and what we love—because where our treasure is, our hearts follow. If you’ve felt out of place, weary, or torn between comfort and calling, this conversation is a gentle but urgent nudge to travel lighter and live truer.
We walk through core passages—Matthew 6, James 4, John 18, 1 John 2, Philippians 3, Hebrews 13—and build a grounded vision for life as citizens of heaven. Sister Deb unpacks the pilgrim mindset: hold possessions loosely, hold people closely, and hold on to Christ with both hands. Identity shifts everything. Citizens belong to a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Strangers remember they’re guests. Ambassadors live on purpose, carrying the words of their King into a world that aches for hope. That lens clears the noise: success stops being a scoreboard, suffering stops being a surprise, and daily choices become seeds for eternity.
We anchor the hope with promises Jesus made: a prepared place, a future without tears, death, or pain, and the joy of his presence. Not escapism, but engagement with focus—serving, giving, telling the good news while refusing to be shaped by what will pass away. You’ll hear practical ways to set your mind on things above, embody holiness in a culture of hurry, and share the gospel with courage and kindness. And you’ll be invited to ask a better question: not how to make this world feel like home, but how to live ready for the one that is.
If this spoke to you, share it with a friend who needs steady hope, subscribe for more Bible-centered encouragement, and leave a review so others can find the show. Where are you setting your treasure this week?
I would like to welcome everyone to the show enjoy and God bless everyone.

SPEAKER_02Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. It's awesome to be back here talking about the Word of God. I just want to ask you to bear with me today because I have one message in mind and looked at it and studied over it, the notes and stuff that I'd made pretty much on and off all week. And only for the Lord just this morning to change it. So that's okay. His ways are not our ways, and I'm okay with that. So just bear with me as I uh there's something uh that I want to talk about, uh, and I believe somebody needs to hear this. So this world is not my home. I'm just passing through. That's uh, and I almost sung that. Uh it's a old, it's words to an old hymn, a gospel hymn, and I read that somewhere that it was written by a man named Alfred E. Brumley in 1919. That's how old that song is. Now that's what I read. So anyway, so this is going out. Somebody needs to hear this today because it's an entirely different thing than what I had in mind. Friends, we this this world is talking about this world. We can all pretend all we like, but this world was never meant for us. It was never meant for us to stay here. You know, there are millions of people living their daily lives, believing that this life is the only life that there is. And that is so tragic. But see, us as children of God, we have been given a new citizenship. We have a passport to our new home, and we one day will leave this world with no earthly possessions, and we will get to that home. Because our time here is only temporary, you know, and life, our life will really only truly begin, my friends, when we get to heaven. That's reality. You know, there there have been good times here and bad times here and and some struggles. Lord knows we struggle. But the thing about it is, I honestly believe that everything that we've been through here and we will go through here from now, you know, is is just for our preparedness, you know, for our eternal future. And I've I've often heard people say, I've heard comments say, like, well, this world is a rat race, you know, spending out of control and going nowhere. And that might be for some people, but I'm telling you, friends, I say that's not for us. The children of God, all of us who have put our trust in Jesus Christ, that's not, that's not nothing to us. Yeah, we're running a race. And there is a finish line. It is a finish line. And I'm telling you what, the good thing about it is we are all promised. Jesus Christ will be there to welcome us home. The only way for us to lose is to not finish. And friends, we got to get our mind made up that this world is not our home. We're merely pilgrims on a journey, if you think about it. And we should dwell more on the things, we shouldn't dwell more on the things of this world. We shouldn't get comfortable here. And we should set our minds on our eternal home in heaven. Matthew 6, 19 and 20 tells us, do not lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven or on earth, but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven. That's what he tells us, people. Because if we dwell on the treasures here on earth, this is where our thoughts and our will constantly be, our thoughts and our hearts. If we dwell on our home in heaven, then our thoughts are going to be toward our home in heaven. Matthew 6 and 21 says, For wherever your treasure is, your heart will be also. Now I know, friends, trust me, life here on earth, we know it's temporary and it's short, it seems short anyway, and it passes quickly. But get this, James 4 and 14 says, Where as ye know not what shall be of the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little of time and then vanish away. That's life, people. And the thing about it is there's people out here living today as though they're gonna live forever on this earth. They've just set up home and they don't even have a second thought to the kingdom coming. But my friends, I'm telling you what, there's gonna be a day that the Lord's gonna come like a thief in the night, and the heaven is gonna pass away, and the earth and everything that there is here will be burn up. And friends, while we live in this world, we're not called to love the things of the world. We're not called to love the things of this world. Knowing that heaven's our home, we we must never get comfortable with the things of this life. 1 John 2 and 15 says, Do not love the world or the things in the world. Friends, if you love the world, then the Bible says the love of the Father is not in you. Now I know sometimes it's hard or sometimes it's easy for Christians to lose focus on this wide, crazy world. I know I've done it before. But see, rather than setting our hearts and our thoughts on things above, we tend to become attached to the things of the earth. But what we need to remember, people, is this world is not our home. Jesus Christ even said in John 18 and 36, he said, My kingdom is not of this world. And friends, we can't be a part of this world. We're in the world, but we can't be a part of this world if we're going to be a part of his kingdom. His kingdom is not in this world, he says it. He says, the Bible says in Hebrews 13 and 14, that this world is our is not our permanent home, that we are looking forward to a home yet to come. First Peter 2 and 11 calls us strangers and pilgrims. Romans 12 and 2 says, Do not be confirmed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. And if you look in 2 Corinthians 5 and 1, it talks about a house in heaven, not made by hands. People, whatever we do, wherever we go, wherever we walk, whatever we talk, we have to keep our eyes on the prize which is heaven. You know, don't work too hard trying to feel at home in this world because it's not going to happen. If you are a child of God, you're not going to feel at home in this world. You know, we are children of the king and we need to live as children of the king. And our efforts while we're on this earth, while we're here living as children of the king, we need to show those other ones that's in Satan's grip that there is a God that loves them. We show them by our words. You know, we show them. We tell them. By our lives, we show them how we live, that we're living for the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, that this is not our home, and we are trying to get our home in heaven. Uh people, you need to think of yourself as a pilgrim, like it said, uh, a temporary resident here, someone who's different from those who live only for the world. We're your your priorities are supposed to be different. Your life is different. This world's not your home. You're only passing through to a much, much better place. Now, as long as there are people in this world willing to do evil, there's always going to be chaos and deceit and hate and death and oppression, destruction, uh, and cruelty in all kinds of forms. Who wants to be a part of that? It's chaos. Friends, we must remember that this world is not our home, that we're only pilgrims passing through to a better home. And I keep saying that over and over and over in these words, and I believe the Lord gave me a lot of these words. And we, people, we need to realize and open up our hearts. Somebody needs to see this today. We are only passing through here. You know? And we've heard over and over, we heard Jesus coming soon. Half of our lives, we've heard that. And people, I'm telling you right now, I cannot hardly believe that he's gonna wait much longer. So I don't think we got too long to dwell in this crazy world. You know? Uh he's waiting for the message of salvation to be given to all the world so that everyone's gonna have a chance to choose to be his children. And people, if we how will they know if we don't get out there and tell them? How will they know if we don't pass his gospel on? You know? How would how will they know that? See, the apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 3 and 20, the apostle Paul says that that our citizenship is in heaven. Now, a citizen, let's think about that. A citizen. A citizen belongs. A citizen, you belong somewhere. It's a part of you. A resident. We we we're we a resident is like you live somewhere temporarily, you pay rent on on your apartment, so you're a resident there. Now a foreigner, a foreigner may never fully be at home anywhere. A foreigner runs to and fro. Now, children, as we we as children of God, we live here, we work here, we raise a family here, but this is not our permanent home. And friends, I'm telling you, we as God's children, we are to be homesick for heaven. I know, I know we should be homesick for heaven. I'm talking about all of us. Every single one of us should be homesick for heaven with the craziness and the stuff that's going on around us right now. We are to be homesick and ready for our heavenly home. And you know, I read something in in 2 Corinthians 5 and 20, Paul tells us that we are ambassadors for Christ. Ambassadors. Have you ever thought about that word? Ambassadors for Christ. Okay, when you're an ambassador, that means you're a resident of another nation. Heaven, right? Think of it. You're an ambassador, you speak on behalf of a ruler of your nation. God. Now think about it, people. Be bear with me here, okay? When you're an ambassador, you live in foreign territory on purpose. Okay? So you're here on assignment. You're not by accident here. You're here on assignment. God has brought you here and put you here as an ambassador to him to tell his word, to tell the people about heaven, to tell the people about our ruler on behalf of our ruler, which is God. We live here on purpose. This is our assignment. So we're ambassadors for Christ. Because, friends, I'm telling you now, I'm telling you, we need to understand we are not going to escape this world. None of us are getting out of this alive. We are representing heaven here, and then it's our job to spread the gospel so that others will see that we have a heavenly home promised. You see, Jesus promised us all in John 14, 2 and 3. He said that he goes to prepare a place for us. Amen. He goes to prepare a heavenly home for us. And then in Revelation 21 and 4, he tells us that there's no more tears, no more death, and no more pain. Praise the Lord. What could we ask for outside of being in the presence of God, which is all of that is promised to us? And that's not because of there's going to be streets of gold. That's because we'll be in the presence of the Lord. Presence of our Father, God Almighty. So, friends, today, if you understood what I'm trying to say here at all, and you know that heaven's not your home, then you need to sit down and tell yourself that you're gonna endure suffering patiently because it's gonna happen, you're gonna suffer. You better endure it patiently. You know, keep your heart tuned in to the eternal things, keep your heart tuned in to the eternal things in heaven. And you need to try your best, tell yourself that you've got to try your best to live holy in an unholy world because that's what we're living in. We're in an unholy world. And most of all, people dwelling in this world that's not our home, keep your eyes on eternity. My friends, keep your eyes on eternity. You know? Now think about it like this. Imagine this. If you go on out of town for, let's say you're gonna go out of town for a month, you're gonna live in a hotel room for a month, right? And you can decorate this room up lightly, but you don't gonna make it look like your bedroom at home or your living room at home, right? Why? You don't make you're not you're not gonna bring all your worldly possessions and put in this room. Why? Because you're going home soon. You're going home soon. And my friends, that's exactly what I'm trying to get through to you today. Brothers and sisters, church, please hear me clearly that this world, it's not falling apart, it's passing away. His word tells us that. And his word also tells us in Hebrews 12 and 28, it says that we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be moved. The kingdom of God is unshakable, and that's our home, people. So my question to you is why today are we clinging to things that we can't keep? Why are we trying to cling to the world and the things in the world that we can't take with us? Why are we uh investing our everything in thus in everything that's gonna burn? It's gonna burn, trust me. You've heard that old song, silver and gold. It's gonna burn, people. See, first John 2 and 17 says that the world passes away. But he who does the will of God abides forever. Forever, people. That's home. Forever in heaven. That's home. But when you see, if you think about what the world offers, what does it offer? The world offers you a wealth that fades, a beauty that gets old, trust me. It offers you power that will eventually collapse, and it'll applause you and pat you on the back, and all of that someday will fade. Trust me. And what does heaven offer you? Praise the Lord. Joy unspeakable. A place that peace, peace that passes all understanding. My friends, he promises us a crown that will never tarnish, and most of all, a savior, our father, who will never leave us nor never forsake us. And there'll be no more tears, no more pain, no more suffering. And friends, trust me, one day, one day, real soon, that eastern sky is gonna split, and that trumpet's gonna sound. And you know what? The dead in Christ is going to rise. And in every single one of us that's given our hearts to Jesus Christ, every single one of us that has lived our lives to serve Jesus Christ and done his will, we will finally get to go to the place where we have always belonged. And you know what? 1 Thessalonians 4 and 17 says, we will be called up to meet the Lord and shall be with the Lord forever. Forever, friends. We will be home forever. Somebody needs to get this through their head that this world is not our home. Friends, quit trying hard to make your place in this world. You know what? Give your life to the Lord, get in his word, do his word, do what he tells you to do, worship him, serve him, and live the life and live and be ready for your heavenly home because that's the only thing, that's the only thing we've got promised is our heavenly home. Trust me on this. Again, 1 Thessalonians 4.17 says, We will be called up to meet the Lord, and so shall we be ever be with the Lord forever. People, we will be home. We won't have to worry about nothing in this world anymore. We won't have to worry about nothing. No bills, no doctors, nothing, no diseases, no pain, no suffering, no tears, no death. We will be home forever with our Lord. So, friends, I'm telling you, please stop living like this is all there is. Stop living like this is all there is. You're not just surviving this world, you are passing through it. You're passing through it, and you are a heir to eternal glory. You are a citizen of heaven. Because trust me, friends, this world is not our home. Somebody needs to hear that today. Somebody needs to open up their eyes up and realize that. Somebody needs to take this to heart. This world is not our home. We're only passing through. The song says, our treasures are laid high. Our treasures are laid high in heaven. And that's where we need to put our hearts today. Somebody needs to hear this. Put your heart or your treasures are laid in heaven. And friends, I'm going to close with a prayer. I hope and pray that this has blessed you as much as it's blessed me to bring it. This is not the message that I was going to bring today. This is the one God brought this up to me this morning, and somebody needed to hear this today. But I'm going to close with a prayer. Thank you for listening. I hope this has blessed you as much as it's blessed me. God bless everybody. Our Father God in heaven, Lord, we ask you, Lord, to bless each and everybody, Lord, that can hear these words today. Wherever these words are going to the ears and the hearts that it goes to, Lord, please let them open up their minds and their hearts and their ears to listen, Lord, what you had to say. Let them open up their eyes and realize not they shouldn't get too comfortable because this world is not our home. We have a much, much better home promised in heaven with you. And Lord, people need to understand that and realize. And they need to stop living like this is all there is because it's not. It's not. They need to realize it. Lord, I ask you to bless each and everybody that's hearing this today. Let it go to the hearts and the ears of the ones that need to hear it. Bless them and lead them and guide them. And we praise you and we honor you. We thank you for these words that you have given us today. We thank you, Lord, for each and every blessing. We praise you and we honor you. And we ask these in all things. In Jesus' holy name we pray. Amen and amen. God bless everybody.
