What Fills Your Heart Will Shape Your Words

We talk about how unchecked thoughts and careless words can expose what’s really filling our hearts and pull us into fear, sin, and spiritual drift. We share Scripture, a real-life testimony, and a clear challenge to bring every thought into captivity to Christ so what comes out of our mouth brings life.
• our mission to share God’s Word and point people to Christ
• Matthew 12 and how the mouth reveals the heart’s overflow
• the danger of letting sin take root and blind us to what’s destroying us
• why idle words matter and how our words can justify or condemn us
• 2 Corinthians 10:5 and the practice of capturing thoughts in obedience to Christ
• the difference between godly vision and corrupt imagination
• a testimony about panic, anxiety, and God’s peace during a truck breakdown
• Peter walking on water as a picture of sinking moments and God’s rescue
• salvation through faith in Christ with genuine repentance
• faith and works and why a changed heart produces changed words
Turn back to Him today. Let Him fill your cup with living water so that whatever overflows from your mouth brings life, not death.
I would like to welcome everyone to the show enjoy and God bless everyone.

Glory to God. This is your host, Jenny. You're listening to Stewardship. Hey, I'd like to welcome everybody. Glory to God. We are in the Lord's house, the Lord's studio. I thank God for it. God is good all the time. Yes, he is, folks. It is so good to be back into the studio and be with you guys and talk with you and commune with you. Just to give you my thoughts and the things that the Lord has given me to share with you today. You know, it might be short, sweet, and to the point, but you know what? Sometimes that's what hits us hard. And I like to thank God for it. God is good. Is he not? God is good. I love God. I really do, folks. Especially when everything feels like it's about to fall apart. And all those thoughts and suggestions from the enemy comes in, then God just creeps in and he says, I'm going to show you, James. I'm going to show you what it's all about. Then all of a sudden it just turns around. Ain't God good. Glory to God. God is good.
How Words Reveal The Heart
SPEAKER_00You know, I want to talk to you guys today, you know, and I speak of myself first above everything, you know, uh, not above God, but you know, as far as to let you go, let you guys know that that we are all, we have all fallen short of the glory of God. We're we're not all perfect. But you know, we do strive to be perfect. You know, my thoughts are damaging. They really are. And, you know, today we're diving into a topic that incredibly hits home with me. It is something we all struggle with. I struggle with it on a daily basis. Whether we want to admit it or not, our minds, our mouth, and the damage they can do when left unchecked. Ain't that the truth? Think about it. How often do we invertly do or say things completely without thought? We live in a world that tells us to speak our truth, not God's truth, but our truth, and react in that moment. But the scriptures call us to do something more radically different. We are called to carefully choose our words before they ever cross our lips, and more importantly, to place every thought under subjection. And we can find that in the gospel, we can find that in Matthew chapter twelve, verses thirty-four through thirty-seven. And Jesus says, O ye generations of vipers, how can ye be evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. I want to ask you a serious question today. Is your heart filled with the things of this world? Because if it is, you will, without doubt, without any resistance, act upon the very things you have allowed inside. Essentially, you will become a slave to your sin. Listen, I'm not standing here on a soapbox here. I can personally testify to this in my own life. I have become the very thing that I have allowed in. Lust, hate, resentment, covetedness. You know, I can go on about that. You know, I allowed it, I allowed those, them to take root in my life. And you know what the Bible says? When you commit one sin, you're guilty of breaking the whole law. At first I didn't see it. That's the scariest part about sin. Before I realized it, it had done to me, before I saw how much it had completely consumed me, it was too late. I had completely backslidden from Christ. I had become blinded to the truth. Write this down if you're taking notes. The wrong thing in your life will blind you to the very thing that is destroying you. Jesus says in his writings of Matthew, a good man out of the good treasures of his heart bringeth forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasures bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, there should be given account thereof in the day of judgment. For by the word thou shalt be justified, and by the word thou shalt be condemned. Truthfully, our mouth sealed the deal. If it isn't the absolute meat of the word, I don't know what is. I really don't. We're all guilty of shooting off at the mouth, aren't we? Especially when we get angry or when we're acting immediately. We're acting on the immediate thoughts swirling around in our heads. Little tongue twisted there, sorry about that. When the cup is full, it has to spill over somewhere. It has to go somewhere. And that is exactly why God tells us to separate ourselves from the word, from the world. If we conform ourselves to the world, we will become the world. I know when I had backslidden, I was consumed by the very lust in my flesh, you know, the partying, the partying scene, the working, you know, just everything that the world has to offer consumed me.
Backsliding And Sin’s Blindness
SPEAKER_00You know, let us take it just a little bit deeper. You know, our thoughts are just as powerful as as our words. Here's some food for thought. We have to think it. We had to think a thing before we say it. In 2 Corinthians 10 5, Paul tells us that we are to be casting down imagination, every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity or thought to the obedience of Christ. Again, I'm speaking of myself first. I am entirely guilty of this. I believe we often mistake our own fantasies with godly visions. Have you ever wondered why the Lord said his word his ways are not our ways, his thoughts are not our thoughts? It's because our very thoughts are corrupt. Every single time I rely on the on my actions, by my own hands, I fail. So many times I've condemned myself by my own words, guilty as charge. That is the very that is why I thank Christ every day for his perfection. Because mine is non-existent. Have you ever wondered why Christ didn't speak when he stood before face to face with Pontius Pilate? Excuse me. We know there is a deep theological reason for this is for his silence, but I believe there is a practical lesson for us to learn. Also, Christ knew life and death lie in the power of the tongue. He spoke to us through his teachings and and how to live, but through his restrained silence, his actions spoke just as loud. Our words carry immense weight. With the power of speech, words can move mountains. It can tame the wild beast. But they can also destroy life and death, folks, lie in our tongues. You know, I want to share with you just a small testimony. You know, I like to share something with you that happened to me recently. You know, I'm uh it's quitting time at work. I get in my vehicle and I start heading down to towards town. My truck starts making this horrible noise. I start going in this panic mode, starting to get upset and worried, at you know, all at the same time. So you can imagine how this is going. And I start telling myself, what am I going to do? Then those thoughts started to flood my mind. Worst case scenario. What is going to happen? How am I going to control this? How am I going to fix this? I don't have a lot of money. You know, I don't have a lot of means. You know, Lord, what am I going to do? Then I kept telling myself, the Lord has me. James, I keep telling myself, I keep telling myself, think about that. Everything is going to be okay. Now the anxiety's gone. And I start to hear the Spirit give me instructions on what to do and where to go. And say to me, Everything's going to work out, James. The peace of God is feeling pretty good right now. Then again, those thoughts are started to creep back in. But it was different thoughts. The thoughts were telling me, ask God why. Why? Why is this happening? Lord, I pay my tithes. I'm not perfect, but I'm striving. I pray. I read. And the Lord's I'm sitting here today, Lord, and the Lord said to me, Let me remind you, James, who I am. I got my
Capturing Thoughts To Obey Christ
SPEAKER_00truck to the place where I can pull off and have have someone look at it and let me know the damage and the cost that it's going to fix, it's going to take to fix. And then all those problems that I had felt really, really small. And I was having no more panic attacks, no more worrisome thoughts and all of that, and and God was taking care of everything. You know, at first I took control of my thoughts, and God took control. And when I couldn't take control of my thoughts, God took control of them. I still have the feeling of worrying leaning around me. As long as I keep my focus on God, and no matter what the circumstances, God has everything under control. You know, we all know the story of Peter that when he walked up on the water, that you know, the waters were raging, it's storming. I can imagine what it looked like. If you got a great imagination, you can too. You know, it it it's he's sinking, the waters Yeah, how can this man be walking on water? Him and Christ standing together, and it just looked really, really bad, and he starts to sink. Then all of a sudden God reaches out when when you can't control it no more. And he lifts you back up, and then he takes you back to dry land. You know that test that's what I felt like. And there's many a times in my life God is during a sinking moment, God has picked me back up and took me where I needed to be, and I thank God for it. You know, as we wrap up today, and I know it's short, and but I want to leave you with the ultimate truth. Salvation comes from believing that Christ is the Son of God and is realized through conscience, genuine repentance of our sins. You know, as the book of James reminds us, faith without works is dead. A changed heart will always produce changed words. And if you find yourself where I was, consumed by damaging thoughts, blinded by the world, black, sliding from the grace of God, hear me when I say it is not too late. Today, right now, I challenge you, surrender your thoughts, bring them under subjection, bring them to captivity to Christ, guard your heart, empty out the cheap treasures of this world and fill them with the good treasures of God. Cry out for grace. He is faithful to restore you, to forgive you, and to tame the thoughts and tongues we cannot control on our own. Turn back to Him today. Let Him fill your cup with living water so that whatever overflows from your mouth brings life, not death. You know, I like to thank everybody for listening, and God bless you all. I couldn't do this without God, and second, I couldn't do it without you. God bless every one of you. We'll see you next time here on Stewardship on the 421 Show.
