prologue for save erce
Narrator:
It is 1983 and the world of man is preparing for Halloween. High above in the Misty Mountains of Scotland, the ancient council, which prevails over the nine realms, has adjourned its emergency meeting to discuss the fate of this sacred tree, Yggdrasil. Weakened by mysterious sickness, the tree can no longer maintain the barrier that holds the darkest realm at bay.
Determined to save the earth, which we call Erce, the most unlikely haves been chosen.
Grandfather Dragon:
Ah, Duncan. In my young balach, the elders have spoken. The time for your quest is upon you. An ancient map has been discovered by the gnomes. It shows where the long forgotten Elfin regenerating pool is. Its waters may save the sacred tree Yggdrasil, whose limbs are now withering and leaves turning brown. The elves can no longer do their healing magic, they have asked us to bring this ancient elixia to them.
Duncan:
What will happen if they can't heal the tree?
Grandfather Dragon:
Then all will be lost. The tree holds together the nine realms of existence, with its branches and its roots, it reaches high into the heavens and deep down into the underworld. It will save the place where we all live, our Erce. You must go away across the seas. The sacred pool is hidden in the mountains, in a place named Wincharm. Now, do you accept your quest?
Duncan:
Yes. Grandfather, as ready as any dragon could be.
Grandfather Dragon:
Our fate is in your hands Duncan. Though I had forbidden you to, I know you have been sneaking into the human cities. You know the ways of man better than any dragon. It has made you the best one to seek this.
Duncan:
I've been observing humans for awhile, I know how to shapeshift, Grandfather. They can't see who I really am, I walk amongst them.
Grandfather Dragon:
Why do you make those markings on the walls of their building?
Duncan:
To warn 'em of their ways.
Grandfather Dragon:
And what do they say about the markings?
Duncan:
Sometimes they hold the box in their hands as they stand in front of my markings, and there are humans who do the same as me and mark the walls at night. It's a type of communication for them.
Grandfather Dragon:
I don't understand their kind. They are only a weak-willed species. Indulgent, greedy, with no sense at all. Can they not hear our earth cries and feel her pain.
Duncan:
Most have forgotten I had hoped to ignite in their hearts again - save Erce.
Grandfather Dragon:
Your heart is pure, my Duncan. Here, take where this amulet of Vegviser, wear it always. It will show you the way and protect you on your long journey. Most importantly, it'll bring you back safely home to me. Now, as your elder, I want to be sure you can out fly their weapons. And if a deadly blow must be made, that you will be able to do it. One more lesson.
Duncan:
Oh, again? I know how I do that already.
Grandfather Dragon:
You still have a lot to learn by young one. Let's go out and practice
Grandfather Dragon:
My heart beats free you can see everything from here. We're so high above them. This mountain has been a protector for centuries.
Duncan:
It's been my home. What's this new place like here?
Grandfather Dragon:
Here we have peace and quiet. No human bothers us, but not there. It'll be like all places humans claim, poisoned, land and place of hate. Magic cannot thrive there.
Duncan:
I'm honored I have been chosen.
Grandfather Dragon:
I know you will do well. Your skills as a changeling are par with no one. It is better to hide amongst them. Remember, no battles, just get what we need and fly straight home. The tree calls for healing. Now let's go to the heavens and see what you can do
