EPISODE 9- SAVE ERCE- BAD MOON ON THE RISE

Scene1
The Creepathon

Paranormal Radio Host Jeremy and co-host Gab are at the radio station doing the Creepathon

JEREMY
Alright listeners!

We are now three hours away from our Halloween costume contest at 6:30pm after the Halloween tree lighting! I’m not sure how you’ll beat last year’s costume winners, the guy in the Dr. Strange costume wowed the audience. It was so shiny.

GAB
You’ve got that right, Jeremy! Plus, his costume had me wondering if he was really floating on air!!

JEREMY
Hopefully they give that character a movie someday. He has potential.

GAB
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves! Remember everyone, we have different categories, so there’s a lot of opportunity to claim one of our many prizes!

JEREMY
First up, we have the Most Elaborate Costume Award,  which will go to the costume with the most attention to detail and most realistic textures.

Next, is the Pop Culture Award, which goes to the best costume based on an iconic character.

My Favorite, the So-Bad-It’s-Good Award, goes to the crappiest, worst, most horrible-looking and, most poorly-made costume in the entire contest. These costumes stink, but that’s part of the charm.

GAB
And don’t forget the Best Kids Costume Award! If anyone brings another baby in a pumpkin costume, I’m gonna burst into tears from the cuteness.

And for any fur-babies out there, we have a Pet Costume Award! Please please bring your dogs in costume - between you and I, this is my favorite part of the contest…

JEREMY
And the best part is, the animals have no idea what’s going on. All they know is their humans are making them wear these strange objects and the other humans are praising them for it.

GAB
Come one, come all!  And may the force be with you.

JEREMY
Spoken like a true princess.

Scene 2
Nothing Like a Good Howl - part 1

THE WEREWOLVES ARE WALKING IN THE WOODS. YOU HEAR FOREST SOUNDS.

GEORGE
I’m sure glad you and John built this place. Far away from town… but with all the comforts of home!

JOHN
Well, we realized we needed a safe place to go to when we wolf out. Out here…. we’re safe and they’re safe. It didn’t take too long to build. Ya know, Brad and I are handy.

BRAD
It was pretty hard bringing that fridge in tho….. that thing sure was heavy!

GEORGE (sniffs twice)
Hey, I smell something different. (sniffs in air) …..Not mammal.

JOHN (sniffs)
I think…. No, no… that is a unique odor, something like…(sniffs again) .. snake?…(sniffs again)   and...a very large snake.

BRAD sniffs in the air
Yeah, I smell it too. Man, can’t you feel it?… the moon…it ‘s gonna be strong tonight!

JOHN
I always feel… ‘ ya know, the change’ …when it’s coming … way before it happens. Like my senses get really heightened.

(They stop walking and get to the hideaway) (sounds of the forest.)

Well, Here we are.

BRAD
Let’s take the camouflage off.

CREAKY DOOR OPENING s

JOHN
Home sweet home.

GEORGE
Hey, what’s in the fridge, I’m thirsty. (he opens the fridge door)
Want a brewski?

They walk into the little cabin.  Put down their bags.

BRAD
Sure.

JOHN
Me too.

BRAD
First, we better get dressed for the party… ya know,  before twilight comes. We can play some cards while we wait.

(THEY go to their bags and take out their clothes, )

JOHN
I always feel a little ridiculous in these big clothes.

BRAD
Yeah, mine’s loose too, but I know once I wolf out, this tux will fit me like a glove.

GEORGE
(
opens the fridge again and takes 3 bottles of beer out)
Come on, Let’s play some Uno.

(CHAIR SCRAPING ON FLOOR TO TABLE AND SIT DOWN)

JOHN
Who’s going to shuffle the deck this time?”

BRAD
GEORGE can.

GEORGE:
(he shuffle the cards and gives each one cards)
OK, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

They pick up the cards and set up their card in their hand

Scene 3
The Garden in the Woods

GARDEN AT THE MANOR - AFTERNOON  Halloween day

Two witches are standing in a large garden)

YAYA
– Ah! Now, look how tall my mullein is!
The perfect garden ambassadors -  protecting us… and invoking peace too!
A glory for Samhain.

(to the plant)  You magnificent creature You!

LUCINDA
As she cuts the roses
Mmmm…. And besides smelling nice, our white roses keep unmagicals from noticing our ritual work.

YAYA
How I love roses! They’re as beautiful as they are dangerous. They have delicate petals – but you’ll get a rude awakening - with their sharp thorns! Perhaps we can learn a thing or two from these flowers.

LUCINDA
Worriedly
Where could Storm be? She seemed excited about helping us.

YAYA
Don't be such a worrywart!  I’m sure she doesn't want to be late for her special day!

LUCINDA(sighs, conceding)
You’re right, Mom. I'm probably more nervous than she is, about her big night …joining the coven.

YAYA
…and all those lush leaves you’ve got! (talking to the plant)
What was that, kiddo? Oh, yes, yes! Tonight’s the night! And I love a good Samhain! Gunnar and I will be dancing up a storm!

LUCINDA Laughs
No thunder this time!

YAYA Laughs
No thunder, my dear, I promise!

LUCINDA Laughs
Storm's friend, Nick, and his band are playing at our party. I wonder what they'll think of it.

YAYA
I met Nick, he seems like a nice young man and quite smitten with Storm. Don't worry, they'll probably think we're all in costume…. Very very good costumes!

Laughs

LUCINDA Laughs
I hope so! Has Storm talked about what kind of magic she has chosen?
Sometimes she tells you a little bit more than she tells me.

YAYA
I'm getting nervous vibes from you - I think that centering yourself will help. Now plant your feet on the ground like the roots of a tree.
Close your eyes.

Take a deep breath.

(she takes a deep breath.)

Clear your mind. Listen to …the leaves in the wind, enjoy each fragrance in the air, let the trees speak to you…..Can’t you feel nature’s power radiating through this very soil?

LUCINDA
Hmm….yes  yes.

YAYA
Ahhh, good.

LUCINDA  opens her eyes
Thanks Mom I needed that. I feel calmer.
You know… this new garden has done well this season. Especially the adder’s tongue and sage.

YAYA
All our hard work has really paid off!

LUCINDA
Expanding the gardens to this part of the estate was a good idea. Your no-till method made it pretty quick and easy.

YAYA
Always listen to nature, she knows what’s best. You just help her a little bit …and good soil makes the magic happen.

Footsteps heard coming closer

STORM
Hi Mom, hey Yaya!

LUCINDA
Oh, good you finally made it!

STORM
Sorry we’re late! We come bringing gifts!

LUCINDA
Where were you this morning? I noticed you left pretty early…

STORM
Oh uh about that…

ELECTRA
I …uh… needed her help with something. We were at the Grove! Look, our baskets are full!

YAYA
That's a lot of acorns …look at those gorgeous oak leaves! Thank you girls!

We are truly blessed by the Goddess to have all this access to the manor and its acres of beautiful fertile land! Just think, witches have been hosted here for generations.

LUCINDA
Gisele has always trusted our coven to take care of her family’s estate. Quite the busy witch- either on a whirlwind book tour or meeting with some head of state.

YAYA
...
she's even been on Oprah!  I knew I should've been a cosmic witch, that's where the money is!

STORM
This place is full of good memories, it’s like my second home. I loved running around the gardens and terraces when I was a kid,... watching the new witches practice their magic. Remember, Electra?

ELECTRA
Yes! And I remember my first try at conjuring at ten, I almost burned down this place! I have come a long way since then…And now it’ll be our time.

YAYA
And such an exciting time for you young witches.

LUCINDA
Storm, Electra. Tonight is your initiation. Are you both ready for the ceremony?

ELECTRA
I’ve never been more ready! I was born to be a conjurer!

LUCINDA
And you, Storm?

Remember, you girls must proclaim your dedicated magic to the coven. Only then will you be able to join the ranks.

STORM
Well I am ready to join the coven but…

LUCINDA
Storm, I hope that you will be a Green witch like us but that might not be your path. The magic chooses you.

STORM
There's so many types of magic I'm interested in, Mom. I can't decide!
But you're right, tonight is the night. Whatever chooses me, I accept.

YAYA
Come on Chickadees, We have an important task at hand. Let’s get harvesting!

LUCINDA
Let's start with the orchard. This year was a particularly good year for Baldwin apples!  We'll use the peels and seeds for our divination!

And no snacking, Storm!

STORM
Ok, ok Mom!

YAYA
If you peel an apple in one long strip and toss it over your shoulder, it reveals the initials of your true love! That’s how I settled on your grandfather. And his great dance moves of course!

You’re a little young but you could try it to find your true love!

STORM (laughs)
Yaya!

Nothing Like a Good Howl - part 2

They playing cards a bit

GEORGE
John, what are you laughing about?

JOHN
I still remember the look you gave me …when you took the hot towel off my face. Damn!

GEORGE
Well, I had just shaved you and when I took that towel off …. You were even hairier!  (laughs)

JOHN
For what it's worth, I am sorry I bit you.  I didn’t know what was going on! I couldn’t help myself!

GEORGE ( a bit mad)
Yeah, and now… I am like you ….and you Brad!  A werewolf, el Hombre-lobo. (sigh)

JOHN (laughing)
I didn’t know what a boy scout you were.  you tied me up pretty good in that barber chair ….excellent knot craftsmanship.

GEORGE
A good knot can save your life, my dad always said.

BRAD
Well, Thank God for Mildred. To think we had witches living in our midst! I thought she was just a nice old lady who owned a lil herbal shop and did palm readings. Otherwise …. (pause)
we would have had to change the town’s name to WOLFCHARM.

GEORGE
Or  ..... OWOOOCOOOCCHARM.” (howls the name)

JOHN
GRRRRRCHARM!  (grows the name)

They laugh with a bit of a growl

BRAD (wins the game)
I hate to say it …. But… UNO!

GROANS FROM GEORGE AND JOHN

GEORGE
Oh, not again!

JOHN
You sure you’re not cheating, Brad?

HEAR BUZZ alarm clock

JOHN
Hey It’s almost time.

GEORGE
One more sip of beer. (sips and puts the beer down)

MUSIC OF Transformation,
GROANING TURNS TO GROWLING TURNS TO HOWLING

BRAD
Oh Man, I’ll never get use to that!
Hey, see, I was right! My tux does fit better now!

GEORGE
Wow, you’re looking a bit Wile E Coyote there, Brad.  How about I cut and style all that hair you got now.

BRAD
Give me a bit of a Fred Astaire look ....  and trim this hair on my paws…. err hands.

JOHN
Wow! I get so pumped, like I did 100 curls.  Spike mine with some gel on the top and my beard.   I like that hair on my hands. Don’t cut it.

GEORGE
Ok boys, who first?

HEAR RAZOR BEING TURNED ON

Scene 4
A Surprise Visit

Samuel is sitting in his home
Sounds Shuffling papers, flipping through pages, shifting hefty books

SAMUEL
Reading incantations quietly

Exposir Brosis Nimsenty
Phanto Argo
Kalibia Asosis
Edius Acari Silac

Sound of air swirling, soon interrupted by the sound of door knocker 3 three times

SAMUEL
Now, who could that be? Electra has been gone for a while - maybe that’s her!

Opens door

High Priest Cross?  I wasn’t expecting you so soon.

M. CROSS
Hello Samuel.

SAMUEL
Slightly nervous
(ahem)
Come in, come in. My apologies for the mess….

M. CROSS
Ready for tonight’s gloryful Samhain?

SAMUEL
Of course.

M. CROSS
I came to town a bit earlier this year. I had some things to attend to. Which is why I wanted to drop by to see you.

SAMUEL
Why’s that?

M. CROSS
To see if all the preparations had been made for tonight’s conjuring.

Disparagingly

I know the Light witches have their…kumbaya…ritual planned. Peace, love and speaking to plants… and all that other rubbish.

We, on the other hand, have serious things to attend to. I trust you to ensure that everything runs smoothly tonight.

SAMUEL
Yes. All of our work has led up to this, after all.

M. CROSS
Where is your darling daughter? Electra – is it? I hope she chooses to join us tonight.

SAMUEL
Well, I’m not sure-

M. CROSS
(
cutting Samuel off)
The dark forces are growing more powerful by the minute. I can feel it - like electricity in the air. It's nearly intoxicating.

And we will be the agents of its release; harnessing its immense power.

Perhaps…enough to get your Hana back.

SAMUEL
Please, don’t say her name.

M. CROSS
Why? I know that she was taken. I’m giving you the opportunity to save her. Even after all this time, I know that the thought of getting her back is what first guided you to our coven.

SAMUEL
Haltingly, sadly
Today marks 13 years since she disappeared.  It would’ve been Electra’s first time trick or treating. Her mother was so excited.  I still have her note…the one last thing my love left behind I know that it will help me find her.

M. CROSS
(Saccharine sweet tone)
And that’s just what you’ll do, Samuel. With the power of our coven on your side - and with a secret weapon…

SAMUEL
I’m not sure I follow - what secret weapon?

M. CROSS
I fear I never thought the stars could possibly align so perfectly. It came to my attention just ereyesterday, there is a young relative of mine here in Wincharm. Nick, is his name. And he has yet to realize his incredible power.

Scoffs

His parents are ignorant of magic - they could never guide him the way we can. I’ve left Nick a message; we will be seeing him this evening.

When we make the most of his magic, we will be guaranteed passage through the veil.

Trust me, Samuel, this will be a Samhain none shall soon forget.
