Episode 10 of SAVE ERCE
LOST IN A MASQUERADE

WOLVES GO TO TOWN
SCENE 1
Sounds of the street, crowds, Wincharm's HalloweenFest
Werewolves are walking thru the crowds

BRAD
Big crowds tonight. So many people!

GEORGE
(excitedly)
Yeah and so many smells!
See that guy way over there in the Superman costume… (sniffs) he’s eating a spicy beef chili with a lot of onions, and that lady, dressed like Madonna, (sniffs) she’s munching on a mushroom shawarma  sandwich with pickled veggies…

BRAD
George, you’re making us hungry! I’m glad we grabbed these burritos before.

Opens up his paper bag

Here John, and George.
They eat the burritos quickly and noisily drinking soda.

JOHN munching
This night vision is amazing! I can see so much more in the dark when I wolf out. Not so many colors tho’.

BRAD munching
And I can hear someone taking out the trash a mile away! Tonight - man, here …everything is so loud to me.
I need to really focus or my wolf senses get too distracting. (sigh)

GEORGE
Are you sure this is a good idea…  coming here, John?

JOHN
Chill. This Halloween has a full moon, what better time to enter the contest?
Look, everyone has costumes on. No one will suspect what we are.

GEORGE
Ok, Ok,  I guess we do fit right in.

BRAD
There’s the Halloween tree! We’re not far from the radio station.

JOHN
I hope we’re not too late for the contest.

GEORGE
Guys, we are getting a few stares.

JOHN
That’s because we are the perfect wolfmen! Come on guys!

He howls and then They all howl together

GEORGE
Laughs
That felt good.

JOHN
That’s the Spirit! Get into it man.
Who’s gonna win?!! We’re gonna win!

Walking towards the radio station

BRAD
Uh Oh.

GEORGE
What is it Brad?

BRAD
I think I just saw my family in the crowd.

JOHN
Dude, don’t worry, there’s no way they’ll recognize you!

BRAD
I guess so…

JOHN
Hey there’s the table to sign up for the contest. We better hurry.

COSTUME CONTEST PART ONE
Scene 2

JEREMY
Welcome!!! Boys and ghouls!! Ladies and gentle-monsters. And all my other fa-boo-lous listeners. We are live at WNCH’s annual haunted halloween costume contest. Waiting with baited breath, to find who the winners will be.

GAB
So many great contestants here! The Halloween tree lighting was truly a sight to behold - but I think these costumes might be even cooler!

JEREMY
They sure pulled out all the stops on this year’s tree. And we have a very strong list of candidates vying for the top prizes in all 5 categories.

GAB
The judges are currently deliberating, and will announce the winners any minute now. I wonder what may sway them this year!

JEREMY
Good point! And we’ve got a great panel of judges: Mayor John Kalabar, Drama director, Madame Monique Chapeau and Bob!
(applause)

GAB
(whispering)
Who is Bob….?

JEREMY
What are you talking about? It’s BOB. Everybody knows Bob. Don’t worry - I’ll introduce you later.

GAB
Alright…anyway… who do you think will win the most elaborate costume?

JEREMY
Oh definitely, the guy in the Hulk costume…oh, or the Kermit over there! Oh geez! I can’t choose which is better-they’re both SO green.

GAB
It’s not easy being green, Jeremy.

JEREMY
I disagree. I think it’s INCREDIBLY easy. Though maybe I’m biased because it’s my favorite color.

GAB
My bet’s on those three wolf men who just entered! They look awesome! I wonder how long it took to glue on all that fur?

JEREMY
Definitely longer than the guy over there who decided to wear a big sheet over his head. It really is SO bad it's good.

GAB
I can’t hate on DIY. He’s crafty. Anyway, we’ll be right back to interview the winners of the contest after this commercial break.

THE GATHERING  PART 1
Scene 3

DOOR OPENING TO THE MANSION
Witches stomping and wiping their feet, carrying baskets of herbs and more for the conjuring.

YAYA:
Hallo! We come bringing gifts from gardens! Mildred?

LUCINDA
Mildred, We’re here.

NERO:
Come in Girls. Did you bring catnip for moi?

ELECTRA:
Nero! This is for the ceremony. You’re always thinking about yourself.

NERO:
You know, Mildred hasn’t stopped talking about you two.

STORM:
It’s our special day, Nero!

ELECTRA
Yeah, Nero, don’t be so catty!

NERO
Low Blow, kiddo!

MILDRED:
I’m in the kitchen! Never mind Nero.
Come in, Come in - I’m making tea!

LUCINDA
Coming! You don’t have to ask me twice!

YAYA
Mildred’s Magic Hour Tea is superb. I’ll need it for the conjuring.

They walk to the kitchen.

LUCINDA
Where should we put everything, Mildred?

MILDRED
Over there, on the big table. My, My -  you have so much.
We are lucky that the goddess smiles on us every year.

LUCINDA
And especially this year - such abundance!

The go to put the items on the table

YAYA:
It was a wonderful afternoon with the girls. Our laughter and our intentions when cutting should bring good magic for the ceremony.

ELECTRA
The acorns and leaves are from the old grove.

YAYA
Maybe now you could explain why you were there so early?

LUCINDA
Yes, why?

STORM
It's like Electra said earlier! She said she needed my help.

ELECTRA
And I … we were helping someone…Duncan.

MILDRED
Duncan? You know Duncan? Sisters, believe it or not, we have a visitor from another realm.

LUCINDA & YAYA
What? Really?

MILDRED
Here in our sleepy town of Wincharm. He told me of his quest. He was sent here to find the cure for the sacred tree of life.

ELECTRA
He told us you were helping him. So… you know he’s a dragon.

MILDRED
Dragon? Dragon? No, no I didn’t. Vince brought him to my store. When I was reading his palm, I saw a vision...I felt this power...but I didn't understand...it all makes sense now.

LUCINDA
What? A dragon? Storm?!

MILDRED
Lucinda, we have nothing to fear from him. His heart is kind and honest.

STORM
And we met goblins! Can you imagine it? A whole goblin civilization living in Blackhill mountain. They were right under our noses and we had no idea!

YAYA
Well, I knew about the goblins…, Lord Stagdazz has come over for dinner a few times and we have lent him some books to read.

LUCINDA
What? Am I the only one in the dark?

YAYA
I’ll introduce you next time, my dear. You’d like him.

STORM
I kinda miss Duncan and the adventure -

ELECTRA
I do too.

STORM
Just think Electra,  we helped to heal Yggdrasill. We saved the realms! That makes us heroes right?

LUCINDA
I’m glad I didn’t know about it, or I would’ve been very worried. Heroes or no heroes.

YAYA
Well, what a way to start your Craft!  You’re not even full fledged witches yet! Who knows what adventures are in store for you.

MILDRED:
Ladies, we must get ready…I have something for you to look at in the dining room. Come.

They walk to the dining room

YAYA:
Every Sawhain, I love turning this place into… What will be this year?

STORM:
Instead of a place, it will be a palace, Yaya. An Egyptian one!

LUCINDA
What are all these books?

MILDRED
Inspiration my dears! Egyptian inspiration! Explore and discover like an archeologist.

They sit down

ELECTRA
Pages turning
Take a look at this one. OOOO I like this interior ..The ceilings are up to 5 stories high!

LUCINDA
Yes, good choice! This one has these wonderful columns and -

STORM
Giant palm trees… and what about a pool like this?

YAYA:
I don’t know…a few parties ago, remember when the ogres drank like fishes and dove into the pool they created such a tsunami …everyone got soaking wet!... and they couldn’t swim for the life of them.

They all start laughing

MILDRED
Has a tray of teacups and tea.
I’ll go get the tea.

LUCINDA
So exciting this year with the girls entering our coven.

MILDRED
It certainly is, I am so proud of them,

LUCINDA
I … I wanted to warn you.

MILDRED
About what?

LUCINDA
Some of the other witches  - well, they have been talking about you

MILDRED
Me?

LUCINDA
Well, about you being seen with that vampire, Vince?
About how close you both have gotten since he moved here.

MILDRED
He makes me laugh, and he is so charming.

LUCINDA
It could cause problems with your standing…

MILDRED
My standing? I don’t understand.

LUCINDA
They are afraid it may be more than friendship. Because he is an undead.

MILDRED
I don’t think it’s any of their business what I do! Do you?

LUCINDA
Oh no… of course not.

MILDRED
Let’s bring the tea in.

LUCINDA
They’re just small minded witches. I didn’t mean to upset you.

MILDRED
It’s alright my dear.
I have always lived by the saying “In perfect trust and in perfect love, do what you wilt and harm no one.”

Our coven needs harmony to gather our magic together, the outside forces will have to wait, we’ll deal with them later.

LUCINDA
I agree. Let it be so.

=============
COSTUME CONTEST PART TWO
Scene 4

JEREMY
And we’re back! The judges have decided…and we’re excited to share the results - and chat with some of the winners!

GAB
I’m so happy that Stanley the pug won the best pet costume award for his impeccable take on the shark from Jaws!! Isn’t he cute!!! OH, LOOK AT HIM SPINNING AROUND  NOW HE’S CHASING HIS TAIL

JEREMY
Gab… You promised you wouldn’t do this.

GAB
Sorry…I’ll reel it in…

JEREMY
Anyway, winning the pop culture award for his James Bond costume, we have Edwards. Marcus Edwards. You know, now that I think about it, me and James Bond have a lot in common. Handsome, charming, gets all the ladies.
‘The name’s Hamilton, Jeremy Hamilton.’

GAB
Keep dreaming, pal.

JEREMY
Next, we have the winner of the “So Bad It’s Good” Category! The Ghost…It’s amazing what you can do with a simple bed sheet with two holes. … Sorry, I didn’t catch your name, sir?

GAB
Hello? You just won!! How do you feel?

GHOST
Boo!

JEREMY
He’s sure committed to his character. I can respect that.

And we have the winners of the best kids costume category!
We’ve got a tie this year!
Siblings….Layla and Noah Thompson!

Layla is decked out in a spectacular dragon costume and Noah is looking awesomely ghoulish as Frankenstein’s monster.
Come on up …
How do you guys feel about your big win?

LAYLA
I’m so excited! I’ve been working on my costume for weeks! My mom helped.

NOAH
Me too! Halloween is my favorite time of the year!

GAB
Can you tell us more about your costumes? Mrs. Thompson, you’ve got some really talented kids!

JENNY
Well, Layla is crazy about dragons and Noah was dead set on being Frankenstein’s monster, right kiddos?

NOAH
Yeah! My mom helped me with the facepaint but I picked out all the colors!
He’s the coolest monster! And I look just like him! (GRRRR)

GAB
That’s awesome!
What about you Layla? What made you want to be a dragon and one with stripes?

LAYLA
I believe that dragons make everything cooler and more magical. There’s always a fun adventure, when there’s a dragon in the story. My costume is the dragon based on my dad’s favorite book, “My Father's Dragon” .
(sadly)
Ohh, I really wish my Dad could’ve been here to see us win tonight.

JENNY
He’s going to be so proud of you guys! I took pictures of both of you up on stage.
Thank you Judges for the award! Come on kids.

LAYLA & NOAH
Yeah! Thank you!

As they go off stage in the distance
Do we have time to go trick or treating, Mom?

LAYLA
Mom, Mom, that werewolf on stage… with the top hat, he reminds me of Dad.

JENNY
Come along kids.

JEREMY
Don’t forget the local paper is taking photos of all our winners, so pick up the next edition.

Now, last but not least, our winners of the most elaborate costume.
They huffed and they puffed and they blew the competition away, with their howling good costume. Watch out, it’s a full moon, and things are about to get hairy and-

GAB
Will you get on with it, already!!!

JEREMY
The winners! The werewolves of Wincharm!
(music)
Now, you guys are quite the pack. You’re all wearing different outfits?
Can you explain your getups?

JOHN
Well, we wanted to pay homage to the famous werewolves in cinema history!
Brad’s Idea.

JEREMY
I see. And you are the varsity werewolf in his letterman jacket?

JOHN
I took inspiration from the 1957 movie I was a Teenage Wolf you know, with Michael Landon.
Did you know he was just a little guy? I’m a lot bigger than him. And I’m a lot hairier. GRRRR!

JEREMY
I see, I see… up close you all look very authentic…and may I say what big teeth you have?
…and for our listeners, the next werewolf looks like he has just normal clothes on, what movie are you from?

GEORGE
The 1940’s movie The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr! - the shovel is just a prop. Remember the graveyard scene?

JEREMY
Great movie! Those fake furry feet you have on look so real!

GEORGE
Thanks man!

JEREMY
The last wolfman is quite dapper. He’s wearing a formal outfit …a top hat and a cool tuxedo with long tails. What wolfman movie are you from?

BRAD
(Chuckles)
Well, actually …
I just got an invitation through the mail: it said
"Your presence requested this evening,
It's formal, a top hat, a white tie and tails."

JEREMY
Huh, wait? …

BRAD
(Chuckles)
That’s a Fred Astaire number, I wanted to be the first ‘wolf-gentleman about town’.
I really think that Hollywood should do a wolfman musical… Show another side of being a wolfman. A lighter side.

JEREMY
Hmmm. I agree. Well, anything you would like to say to your fans.

BRAD
points to John
Well, This guy wouldn't stop ‘hounding’ us about entering this contest.

GEORGE
I told him he was barking up the wrong tree.

JOHN
And I said we couldn’t lose. I was right!

GEORGE
We want to do one more thing.
Our Ode to the Moon wolf-style! In the key of Howl.

They all howl together and walk off stage

JEREMY
Now, that’s what I call best friends fur-ever.

GAB
Please! Make it stop!!!

JEREMY
What’s wrong, Gab? Werewolf got your tongue? Got a bone to pick?

GAB
Ok, we’re done, here.

JEREMY
Ignore my co host. She’s in a bad mood. She had a r-r-r-ruff day.

GAB
I swear to gosh, Jeremy!!!

JEREMY
We’re having a lot of fun, here, clearly. We will be taking a commercial break…

==============
VINCE AND HIS FRIENDS
Scene 5

Vince walking inside the cave to meet Duncan to go to the party

VINCE:
Duncan? Yoohoo Duncan! Time to party! It’s the big night!
Where is he? We were supposed to meet here…

We hear door opening in cave wall and then footsteps

Duncan there you are! How are you?

DUNCAN
Ahh I don’t know … I’m not sure … of anything.

VINCE
What happened, my young friend?

DUNCAN
A long story…a case of one step forward, two steps back.
I’m afraid my Grandfather picked the wrong dragon for this mission. (sigh)

VINCE
Don’t say that. Did you find your amulet?

DUNCAN
That I did get. Thanks to the witches. See?

VINCE
Well that’s good, right?
