THE PARTY
 (scene 1)

The Sawhain party at the old mansion. We hear drums
The mansion inside looks like ancient Egyptian palace with hierogrlyphics on the walls, columns 5 stories high, palm trees.

MILDRED
(announces to the group)
Hello Hello Everyone!
The coven welcomes you to our annual Samhain party!
We are happy to see new faces and the usual suspects!

YAYA
(announces to the group)
If you look up - you will see the famous artist Saza!
She’ill be performing her aerial art -
she will be doing a new one every hour.
She has dedicated this evening to Egyptian goddesses and gods.

YAYA
Our MC for tonight’s gathering… is Mad.

LUCINDA
(announces to the group)
Let the fun begin!

We hear Egyptian music, then we hear the mummy tomb door opens
And the music starts weaving

MAHDU
Mahdu, says, Dance!

Crowd joins in.

Gab & the Werewolves party at the Old Mansion
(Scene 2)

BRAD
What do you say, Gab?
Does this look like the coolest party ever or what?

GAB
speculative
Yeah. The decorations look so real,
and that Egyptian mummy dancing around?

JOHN
Yes they like to do it big, don’t they?
Listen Gab, you just gotta go with the flow. OK?
Oh, look! There’s James and Judith.

BRAD
My favorite dancing… spirits! I’ve been taking lessons from them.

GAB
(whispering to George)
Spirits? Oh…is that their costume or…?

GEORGE
Huh?... oh, yeah Gab! They're masters of illusion.

GAB
(whispering to George)
I can kinda … see through them?

GEORGE
Theater, Gab. Remember ‘theater’?

JUDITH
It’s my favorite pack!
Brad, you look quite dashing!

BRAD
Thanks, Judith.

JUDITH
I see you have a fourth member tonight.

BRAD
This is Gab, a friend, but tonight: (theatrically) she’s Princess Leia from the planet Alderaan!

JUDITH
Hmm I didn’t know there were three Chewbacca’s in Star Wars?

BRAD
Very funny. Our theme is stars from different Hollywood films!

JUDITH
Oh, I see, but Fred Astaire as a werewolf?

BRAD
Well, I’m a movie star from the future, you know Mel Brooks had his creature dancing on stage. I look very debonair.
N'est-ce pas?

JAMES
Chuckles
Well, yes you do …. you all look fantastic!

JUDITH
I bet you wolves are hungry, take a look at this!

GEORGE
Ooooo Steak Tartare!

JAMES
I made it special-  just for you! Here have a taste.

JOHN
Oh, that’s my favorite!

GEORGE
Mmmmm! You guys know how to spoil us!

They eat

BRAD
Judith, I’ve been dreaming about your cake! It looks delicious.

JUDITH
WeIl we  know you have the sweet tooth, Brad. We’ll be cutting it in a few hours.

JAMES
Now that you’ve had an appetizer.. Would you like to join us on the dance floor?

JOHN
I am ready to shake, shake, shake.

BRAD
I say “Do it big, do it right, and do it with style.”

GEORGE
Let’s boogie guys! Gab, come on!

GAB
Uh.. No, go on ahead.

GEORGE
You sure?

GAB
Yeah…I’m not much of a dancer.
I’ll stay back and uh… take it all in.

GEORGE
Hey wait up guys.

Nick and Storm Talk at the Party
(Scene 3)

NICK
Hey, Storm. I was looking for you. Man, this party is crazy!
You told me that they go all out, but I never imagined this!
I don’t know what to look at first… the giant spider or that big ogre.
And how did they do this Palace inside the old mansion?

STORM
Ahh, Smoke and mirrors?
They hire the best . … ohh by the way, you look very….. groovy!

NICK
And you look …beautiful!

STORM
I don’t usually wear a dress.  Watch this, I’ll twirl.

(She twirls)

NICK
Wow, it lights up.

STORM laughs
The dress was Electra’s idea.

NICK
How did she make it do that?

STORM
Magic?

NICK
Funny, Storm.
Everyone is so friendly here. And the most rad costumes…when I was getting some food,  I met this really tall guy …Rick, He must be a basketball player,....dressed up as BigFoot. He really likes our song “ - ”.

STORM
Well, the band does sound great tonight. You got everyone dancing.

NICK
Our first gig! And You made it happen, Storm.

STORM
I knew you guys would kill it!

NICK
Thanks. I’ve been wanting to ask you something… that’s been on my mind for awhile.

STORM
What is it?

NICK
Well, we’ve been friends for a long time…

STORM
Since you moved in next door, eight years ago.

NICK
Yeah…and now I feel….. I feel kinda …

STORM
Yeah Nick?

NICK
well..I wanted us..  ahh I wondered if we could…

Band member appears

BAND MEMBER
Dude!!! There you are!

NICK
What’s up?

BAND MEMBER
Man, we’ve been looking everywhere for ya.
They want us to go on, like now..

NICK
Storm I’ll talk to you after ….

BAND MEMBER
Come on!!!

(NICK and the BAND MEMBER rush away)

STORM
Wait! Nick!! I- I- like you too.

Vince & Mildred Dance at the Party
(Scene 4)

(Vince and mildred get back from dancing).

VINCE:
Finally. I got to dance with you. It was better than I ever imagined!

MILDRED:
You are such a good dancer!

VINCE:
You like my moves? You can thank James and Judith. I’ve been taking dance lessons.

MILDRED:
You make me look good.

VINCE:
…and you are my inspiration, Sweetie.

MILDRED:
I didn’t like the way the dark coven was scowling at us when we danced. What’s with that?

VINCE:
Don’t let them ruin our night. Think of the ones that high-fived us! Be positive.

SAMUEL:
Hi Mildred! This party’s a hit, everyone is here! Turning this old mansion into an Egyptian palace… fantastic!

ah..Sorry I couldn’t be there for the initiation today.

 MILDRED:
We missed you Samuel.

SAMUEL:
Mildred, I wanted to thank you for being such a great teacher to Electra. She really likes learning the craft from you.

MILDRED:
Electra is a very talented witch especially for someone her age.
I know she gets her powers from you.
(pause)
Are you OK about her joining our coven?

SAMUEL:
Actually I was hoping she would. She doesn’t have to go to the dark side ….like me.

VINCE:
Hello Samuel, my name is Vince. Mildred has only good things to say about you… unlike the others.

SAMUEL:
Pleasure to meet you. I heard good things about you too…from Lucinda and Gunther. You’re the most unusual vampire I’ve ever met. Well, actually you’re my first one.

VINCE:
Well, I am trying to live ‘life’. That’s why I came here.

SAMUEL:
I get it. My only warning to you is to stay clear of the others in the dark coven,  especially - our new high-priest, M. Cross. He’s not one to tangle with.

VINCE:
I am a nice guy now, but he should stay clear of me ….  if he tries to harm Mildred or anyone I care about, well…. I am capable of many things. Many things!

SAMUEL:
Hopefully it won’t come to that.
Oh, I see a friend of mine, I need to talk with him.
Good to see you Mildred. You too Vince.

MILDRED:
Bye Samuel!
(talking to Vince quietly)
That was a bit heavy Vince. Samuel is one of the good ones.

VINCE:
Sorry, I don’t like anyone putting us down. Nothing and no-one will interfere with our happiness.

Come, let’s get some refreshments and enjoy the rest of the evening.

==============

In The Shadows
(Scene 5)

(The dark coven meets up at the party
Sounds of guests mingling, music
Fade in on Samuel’s conversation with a couple magicals.)

SAMUEL
-Nice seeing you both! Enjoy the party!

M.CROSS
There you are, Samuel.
(laughs)
Chilton, can you believe him?

CHILTON
Why are you talking to them?

SAMUEL
They’re my neighbors.

CHILTON
They’re not our kind.

SAMUEL
(annoyed tone)
I don’t believe we’ve met. You are?

CHILTON
(with grandeur)
Chilton Merrick. It’s a pleasure.

SAMUEL
(Annoyed)
Right.

M. CROSS
Samuel, the Merrick family’s magic goes back generations - his ancestors developed alchemy centuries ago, deep in the caves of Blackhill Mountain. And that is the perfect place for our conjuring tonight. The caves echo with powerful magic!

CHILTON
I’m here for whatever you need, High Priest.

M. CROSS
Glad to hear it.
We all must be ready for what’s ahead tonight.
I’m counting on each one of you. Is that clear?
Samuel?

SAMUEL
Yes. I’m with you.

M. CROSS
I need to know that I can trust you.
Chilton has already proven his allegiance. Can you?

SAMUEL
flustered
Of course you can trust me! I- well- What more can I do?

M. CROSS
Just keep a close eye on Nick.
Make sure that he doesn’t leave before we make our move.
We need him, or all of this will have been for nothing.

SAMUEL
What am I supposed to do? Follow him around all night?
(worriedly)
And-and what if he doesn’t want to help us?
Don’t tell me you plan on kidnapping the poor boy?

M. CROSS
(sighing)
Samuel, save me the ethical dilemma.
I am a master of persuasion.
All the boy needs is some convincing and a white lie or two, so that he can see the light - or rather-the dark…. (chuckling at his own joke)

I should have been an actor.
(suddenly serious)
Need I remind you, we’ve each got our part to play.

And you can’t risk failure tonight.

SAMUEL
Why do we need Nick?

M. CROSS
In my travels, I came across ancient records of my family Lineage. I discovered that Nicholas is a part of a branch of my family, the Quinlins, who hold a fantastic power going back thousands of years. Every seven generations one is born with this blessing-

SAMUEL
(under his breath)
Or curse.

M. CROSS
Nevertheless, after 200 years, Nicholas has the gift. Only he has the power to be our conduit into the spirit realm for tonight’s conjuring. Nicholas is the key. He is the Thresholder.

SAMUEL
WH--

CHILTON MERRICK
Interrupting
Would you look at that!

M. CROSS
(laughs meanly)
Mildred and the Monster. Who knows what she sees in that vampire.
How can she parade around with him?

CHILTON MERRICK
What a disgrace.

M. CROSS
It’s unbearable. I can’t wait until this ghastly party is over.
menacingly
Then the real fun will begin.
