SPEAKER_00Hello everyone. I am so happy to be back talking to you through my show. And to all my listeners, welcome back to my podcast show called Sparky's Life. Or if you are a new listener to my podcast show, welcome to YouTube. I'm your host Grant Gilko. I am an electrician by trade and a electrical contractor by choice. My podcast show is about electricians helping electricians or tradies helping tradies. So if you are listening to this podcast at 5am in the morning, sitting in your Ute or van, your boots are probably half on, and if you wear those boots with laces and zippers, they're probably not done up either. You have a cup of coffee or a cup of tea in hand, wondering how the hell you're going to get through another day. Well this episode is for you. Today I'm so excited because we are talking about the million dollar morning routine, the five-star system for tradies, and how winning your morning totally wins your life. And here's the truth. Most tradies don't have a motivation problem, they have got a morning problem. We hit the snooze button, we rush, we forget things, we sometimes or always skip breakfast, we rock up reactive instead of ready and proactive, and we wonder why the day feels like we are chasing our tail. But here is what I've learned over a long time. How you set your day up is how it ends up. Your morning is like the first domino. Tip it just right, and the rest will just fall into place. So today I'm going to give you a practical toolkit, a system that starts the night before, and a five-star system that you can actually follow. I will call it the million dollar morning. Not because it makes you rich overnight, but because over 10-20 years it absolutely does. So sit back and get yourself comfortable and let's roll on with the show. Part one of the million dollar morning is the night before. The future you is watching. Now here is the first secret. Your morning just doesn't start in the morning. Oh no no no my friends. To your amazement, it starts the night before. Yes, that is correct. To set yourself up for a million dollar morning, your day has to start the night before. Most tradies sabotage their morning by how they finish today. Is this what happens in your world? You finish work tired, you get home and lock up the van, then you probably probably go and get cleaned up and have a shower. When you're done with the shower, you go have a feed, have the evening meal, then you might go on your phone, iPad, or computer for some doom scrolling on social media. You then get tired and then decide to go to bed and then crash for the night. If you have this adopted this scenario, it leaves you with no plan, no preparation, and no system in place. The 5 a.m. hits you like a freight train. So instead of all that nonsense, we prepare ourselves a lot better. We build ourselves what I like to call the night before toolkit. Now I have broken up the night before toolkit into four easy-to-do steps. Step number one is pack the Ute like a professional. When you leave your last job and you're on your way home to the depot or home, check the fuel gauge and make sure that there is enough petrol in the tank for you to get around the next day. This will save you a lot of time going to the service station before the first job in the morning. When you first get home or back to the depot, I find it easier to unpack what you don't need for the following morning. The reason why you do this now is because you're still in work mode. You're still moving. It doesn't take long and it's easier to do it straight away than trying to do it much later. So before you shut down for the day, prepare the tools that you need for the next day and load them into the van. Check all the batteries for your drills, torches, and two-way radios are charged up and place them on charge if they are flat. Have all the materials sorted and needed if possible. Check the ladders are secured and tied on, and test the gear for ready for use. So can you imagine this? You wake up in the morning, you walk out to go to work, go to your first job, and everything is ready. Wow. There is no rummaging around and trying to look for gear. Everything is so calm with no frustration and no swearing, no cursing, and no yelling. You do not have to waste your energy and time. You're not looking for tools and charges. Now that is calm power, readiness for work. Step number two is prepare your fuel. Tradies are like athletes in disguise. You do not run marathons, but you do all the lifting, carrying, climbing, crawling, and problem solving for about eight to ten hours every single day. So why do most of us eat like fifteen-year-old teenagers? The million dollar morning rule is that you make and pack your own lunch the night before. So if you're cooking something that night, why not cook a little bit extra for the next few days lunches? Keep snacks ready in the cupboard to throw in your tucker box as well. The water bottles filled and prepared, ready to go with enough H2O for the whole day. Keep up your protein and carb intake. Keep it simple with two bald eggs, with something like boiled rice or cooked pasta, or maybe a wrap or a sandwich, and a small bag or container of your favorite nuts. And don't forget two to three liters of water. It doesn't have to be restaurant quality food, just a simple dietary intake for the next day. So keep it simple, be prepared, and stay professional. And in the words of Ron Burgundy, stay classy. Step number three is visualize the job. Take five to ten minutes before you go to bed for the night. Ask yourself these simple questions. Where am I going tomorrow? What is the first job? What is the biggest risk? And what tools will I need first? By doing this simple five to ten minute process before you go to sleep, this reduces your mental friction in the morning. You have already visualized the day, the clarity you have created for yourself reduces stress. And stress is what drains tradies. The aim is to keep the stress in check and as little or none if possible. Step number four is win your sleep. You can you cannot have a million dollar morning if you go to bed at 1145 at night watching rubbish on TV or doom scrolling social media or watching YouTube videos on your electronic devices. Tradies need time to recover. You should aim for seven hours minimum of sleep time, no phones or electronic devices thirty minutes before going to bed. Try sleeping in a dark room and go to bed at a consistent time which allows you to maintain the seven hours of sleep. Sleep is not a lazy thing. Sleep is performance. Getting enough rest promotes a better life. Before we go to part two of the five star system of the million dollar morning, let's just summarize the steps of part one, which was the night before preparation. Step one, pack the Udol van. Step two, prepare your food. Step three, visualize the job. And step four, win a good night's sleep. Hi there, I'm Grant Dorco. If this is your first time here at Sparky's Life, welcome. It's great to have you here. And if you're back here for more, welcome back and thank you for your loyalty and support. If you like what you hear on today's show, make sure you share this podcast with your mates who are electricians or who are involved in the tradey world. I want to reach out and help as many tradies as I can with this podcast. I want to help tradespeople break through to the next level in their career and in their life. Part two of the Million Dollar Morning is the first domino, move your body. Now we hit the morning, the alarm goes off. This is the first battle. You probably hit that snooze button and go right off to sleep again. But did you know that there has been studies done about hitting that snooze button? Your brain goes into another sleep pattern and it takes about seventy five to ninety minutes for you to complete a sleep pattern. It actually creates something called sleep inertia. In simple terms, sleep inertia is the temporary transitional state of grogginess, disorientation, and impaired cognitive or motor performance experienced immediately upon waking up. This sleep inertia typically lasts for thirty to sixty minutes. So do not hit that snooze button in the morning. And here's a rule that I live by. Win the battle with your own simple promises to yourself. If you say to yourself that you're going to get up at five o'clock in the morning, so when the alarm goes off at five o'clock in the morning, get up. When that alarm goes off, just imagine yourself as a rocket ready to launch. So when the alarm goes off, don't just lie there or hit that snooze button. The rocket is ready to launch itself out of bed. So count backwards down from five, four, three, two, one. The rocket has lifted. Get out of bed. Now you do not do this because you feel like it, but because you said you would. You made that promise to yourself. That was the first promise to keep. And that builds the identity. The 20 to 30 minute movement rule. This is the first domino to start your day off. Do not even look at your phone or electronic devices. This is your time to yourself to shine brightly. Put yourself first when you get up. You don't need to spend 90 minutes. You just need momentum. Here are some healthy options. Do a 20 to 30 minute gym session. Or a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute power walk. Do a workout of the day. Maybe something comprised of push-ups and squats. Try a mobility session. Get those legs moving on a spin bike. Or do a quick 10 to 15 minute high-intense workout with a rowing machine. When you move yourself like this, you release dopamine. You feel accomplished, you build confidence, and you sharpen your focus. And studies show that doing any of these exercise routines adds years to your life. It exercises your body and your mindset. You walk onto that job site and you are a different person. You are you have already won the day. You are a winner. And when the first job throws a curveball at you or goes sideways, you are totally grounded. Here is the identity shift. Instead of I'm just a tradee heading to work, you become an operator. You train, you perform, and you show up. And that's a completely different energy. Part three of the Million Dollar Morning is mental focus, set the framework. Now you have moved, you are now awake. But before you even grab the phone or any of your devices, after you have had a healthy breakfast to keep you going to morning tea after having a shower, and when you're done cleaning your teeth in front of the mirror, take time to reset. Give yourself a big smile to yourself in front of that mirror. And say to yourself that you are a winner, and promise yourself that you're going to have a great day. By doing this, it sets up your day and helps those dominoes to fall into place. You have to lock in mental direction because if you don't, control your mind in the morning, the world and social media will control your mind for you. And this is definitely not what you want to happen. The three question reset. Ask yourself these questions. One, what must I get done today? Two, what could go wrong? And three, how will I respond if it does? That third question is powerful. How will I respond if it does? You predecide your attitude, and that shows maturity. The reason why we do not touch the phone or any of your electronic devices when you first wake up is because it creates the doom and gloom scrolling pattern. It just clutters your mind. And you need to implement the million dollar morning routine. So no doom scrolling. Do not even open up the news or social media or those negative group chats. Simply you do not need the two hundred opinions of the keyboard warriors living in their mother's basement in your mind before 6 a.m. So protect your headspace. To do this, set a theme. A one word for the day could be focus or patience, maybe precision. How about this word, leadership or calmness? That word or words that you choose for that day will become your filter. We will just take a short break from the show to talk about beacon lighting. Dilka Electrical are one of the preferred electricians for Beacon Lighting at Port Macquarie. We have been associated with Beacon Lighting as one of their preferred electricians for many years now. Beacon Lighting Port Macquarie is located near the Bunnings Warehouse complex on John Oxley Drive. So come along to the next advertised day at your local Beacon Lighting store at Port Macquarie and get some free advice from a licensed electrician at their Ask a Sparky Day promotion. We both will be there to answer all your questions. Or if you just want to pop in to say hello, welcome to do that too. Either way, come on down to Beacon Lighting A here at Fort Macquarie. Part 4 of the Million Dollar Morning is the professional edge. This is where the Million Dollar Morning becomes financial. Most tradies lose money in the first hour of the day. You might have a late start, you might forget to pack a certain tool or materials, you mightn't have any plan to start the day. You may even have the wrong materials or no materials needed for that first job. And this leads to stressful decisions. Instead of going through all of that and losing the first hour of your day, you may consider doing these next three tasks before you start your day off and kick that can down the road. Task number one is take five minutes to do A administration scan. Before you leave, confirm the address. Confirm the materials needed for the job. Confirm access to the job. And check for any last minute messages. The main objective here is to prevent all the associated problems early. Task number two is to look and feel sharp. You do you do not need to look flashy with a suit and a tie. But wear a clean and iron shirt. Make sure you have clean boots. Be properly groomed, like have a shave and comb your hair. And be organized. You'd be shocked how much this affects your confidence. And confidence affects how you quote. And quoting affects your income. Task number three is hydrate before caffeine. Water first. Before that cup of tea or coffee, even when you first get out of bed, you wake up dehydrated. So why not have a glass of tall water to start your day? Then comes coffee or tea second. Your brain works better and your mood stabilizes. And now for the final part, which is part five of the Million Dollar Morning Program. The five-star system. And the last star, star five, promise integrity. That last star is the most important one of all. Promise integrity. If you promise yourself, I'll get up, and you don't, you chip away at trust with yourself. If you do that for ten years, your confidence will erode. But if you keep simple promises to yourself, you build self-respect. And self-respect shows up in how you speak to your clients, how you handle pressure, how you run your business, how you lead apprentices and other tradespeople in your team, and how you treat your partner. Morning discipline leaks into your life discipline. So why did I call this show the Million Dollar Morning? The Five Star Morning Program. I'll tell you why. If you look at it closely and do the maths, if your routine improves performance by 10%, reduces mistakes, increases being a professional, boosts your confidence, and improves your energy, over 20 years that compounds better quotes, better clients, better decisions, better health, and less burnout. That is million-dollar behavior. Not flashy, it's not Instagram, not Facebook and doom scrolling on your elective devices. It is just consistent. And being consistent and keeping those little promises to yourself. So if you're listening right now in your Ute, tomorrow morning, don't try and change everything. Just maybe start with one star. Maybe pack your lunch tonight. Or set your alarm and do not hit that snooze button. Or do five to ten minutes of push-ups before your first cup of coffee. It is just a small domino. But it is a big ripple effect. Because how you set your day up is how it ends up. And to everyone listening, you are not just tradies, you are providers, builders, electricians, problem solvers, and operators. So it is now up to you on how you set up your day from 5 a.m. This has been Sparky's Life. If this helped you, share it with another trade who needs to lift their morning program. And remember, win the morning, win the day, and win your whole life. So that's all for now, folks. But before I go, if there is anything you'd like me to talk about on future episodes, maybe want to ask a question or be on the show, you can do this by contacting us on any of our media sites.
