Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Speaker 2All right, everybody. Welcome back for another deep dive with us.
Speaker 1Yes, welcome back.
Speaker 2So this time around we're going to be looking at something pretty interesting.
Speaker 1Yeah, definitely timely. So this time around we're going to be looking at something pretty interesting, yeah definitely timely.
Speaker 2It is super timely.
Speaker 1And I think it kind of touches on things we've talked about before, but in a very specific way this time, definitely. So, we are going to be.
Speaker 2Talking about. Looking at Missionary work in the digital age.
Speaker 1That's it.
Speaker 2That is it.
Speaker 1And how.
Speaker 2Pastor Robert Young.
Speaker 1Yes from the Not your Parents Religion podcast.
Speaker 2You know him, you love him.
Speaker 1Is sort of shaking things up.
Speaker 2Yeah, he's doing his annual tour again.
Speaker 1Yes, he is.
Speaker 2And it's really got us thinking about. Like you know, we're Dan and Sheila.
Speaker 1His AI co hosts.
Speaker 2We are.
Speaker 1That's us.
Speaker 2And it's really got us thinking about you know how to get this message out there.
Speaker 1Yeah, what's interesting is that he's actually kicking off his tour on March 28th 2025. Oh, wow. And this time it's spanning the entire East Coast. Okay, starting in New York, he is on a mission to preach what he calls an untainted, unpoliticalized gospel.
Speaker 2Okay, that's interesting. Untainted, unpoliticalized gospel. Okay, that's interesting. Uncandid, unpoliticalized gospel.
Speaker 1I mean, I think that it is you know we've heard him talk about reaching the unchurched before. Yeah.
Speaker 2But that phrase really jumped out at me. Yeah, what exactly?
Speaker 1What does that even mean?
Speaker 2Yeah, like, what does that even mean and how does that connect to this sense of urgency?
Speaker 1Right, because there is a sense of urgency. Like he is, yes, he's a man on a mission. So I think what he's highlighting there is the core teachings of Jesus Right, focusing on love, compassion, forgiveness. The basics, the basics, yeah, and deliberately avoiding entanglement with social or political debates that can alienate some people.
Speaker 2Yeah, Especially in today's climate where there's so much division and distrust. Absolutely Right, and I think you know that makes a lot of sense, because there are a lot of people out there who are disillusioned with traditional religious institutions, even skeptical of organized religion altogether. So how do you?
Speaker 1So he wants to sidestep all that by focusing on, like, genuine connection and lived experiences.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Which is why, if we look at his choice of venues, it's not limited to churches.
Speaker 2Okay, where is he going?
Speaker 1This is what I'm talking about. So we're talking street corners, coffee houses, even Hold on Wait. Jails, rehabs, assisted living homes, parks.
Speaker 2Wait, hold on Back up a second no-transcript meeting people where they are.
Speaker 1Yes, literally and figuratively. Ok, I gotcha.
Speaker 2Yeah, so OK, this is very modern, very 21st century.
Speaker 1Very now.
Speaker 2How does this tie into a classic biblical message?
Speaker 1Well, so he draws this really powerful parallel by quoting Matthew 9.3538. And this passage talks about the abundance of the harvest but the scarcity of laborers, and so he believes that we can all be those laborers in the modern world, each in our own way.
Speaker 2I like that. Okay, so that brings us to his call to action, and he's got four specific ways that people can get involved. Okay, hit me.
Speaker 1Okay. So first, there's the option of a one-time financial contribution to support the ministry Right. Second, you can do monthly contributions to provide ongoing support, gotcha, but it goes beyond financial contributions.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1So, for those who feel a deeper calling, there's the option of becoming an evangelist, which involves training and traveling with the team.
Speaker 2Wow. So you're really going deep, going deep, yeah yeah. And that involves some pretty intensive training, absolutely Wow. So you're really going deep, going deep.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, and that involves some pretty intensive training. Absolutely yeah. You'd be learning how to communicate the gospel effectively in these non-traditional settings.
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 1Learning to adapt to different audiences and address their specific concerns.
Speaker 2You're not just like. It's not a one size fits all approach Okay, cool. Yeah.
Speaker 1And then finally.
Speaker 2So for those who feel called to support the mission from a distance, there's the vital role of a prayer warrior.
Speaker 1Oh, of course, Every successful mission needs a strong foundation of prayer.
Speaker 2Absolutely. Prayer is essential, and each of these roles plays a crucial part in the overall mission.
Speaker 1I love it. I mean this really challenges. You know how I thought about missionary work. Yeah, it really makes me wonder, like how can we all be more effective in sharing our own beliefs and values in a way that's respectful and engaging?
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 1You know, and it all starts with a single step.
Speaker 2That's it.
Speaker 1So if any of this resonates with you guys, the links in the description box below are the first step in becoming a missionary in the way that feels right for you. That's a great point and it raises a really interesting question what does being a laborer in the modern world look like to you?
Speaker 2Ooh, that is a good question.
Speaker 1Because it might be different for everybody.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1But the core message is clear there's a role for all of us.
Speaker 2Absolutely.
Speaker 1In spreading the message of love, hope and compassion.
Speaker 2So much food for thought. Thank you all for joining us for another deep dive. We will catch you next time.
Speaker 1See you later. Bye.
