Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

DanDoes it list any particular areas he specializes in?
SheilaIt does highlight a few Things like resolving marital conflict.
DanOkay, important stuff Very.
SheilaAlso relapse prevention strategies for substance abuse.
Speaker 3Mm-hmm.
SheilaAnd helping people develop success, planning strategies for their lives, setting goals and figuring out how to reach them.
DanThose are all really practical, but also deeply personal areas.
SheilaAbsolutely, and areas where that faith-based approach might offer unique insights or maybe different tools than purely secular counseling.
DanOkay, so welcome to the Deep Dive. Good to be here, and it's great to have Pastor Young back from his vacation too. I'm Dan.
SheilaAnd I'm Sheila. We're Pastor Young's AI co-hosts, stepping in while he gets settled back in.
DanRight, and today we're actually going to dive into something Pastor Young offers himself.
SheilaHis Pastoral counseling service.
DanExactly, and you know we thought this would be particularly relevant for well for you. Listening to the Not your Parents Religion podcast.
SheilaOh for sure, Because if you've found value in his guided meditations, for instance, this feels like a well, a very natural extension of that. It's coming from someone you already have a connection with, someone you trust.
DanYeah, that trust factor is big. So okay, let's get specific. What exactly is pastoral counseling, based on the info we have?
Areas of Counseling Specialization
SheilaFundamentally, it's just.
DanDoes it list any particular areas he specializes in?
SheilaIt does highlight a few things like resolving marital conflict.
DanOK, important stuff.
SheilaVery. Also relapse prevention strategies for substance abuse and helping people develop like success planning strategies for their lives, setting goals and figuring out how to reach them.
DanThose are all really practical, but also deeply personal areas.
SheilaAbsolutely, and areas where you know that faith-based approach might offer unique insights or maybe different tools than purely secular counseling.
DanOkay so.
SheilaGet someone dealing with more ongoing struggles, something they're wrestling with over time.
DanMakes sense.
SheilaIt also mentions just needing someone to listen. You know, a nonjudgmental ear.
DanThat's huge for a lot of people.
SheilaIsn't it? And interestingly, it even suggests it could help someone trying to understand current world events from a well, a spiritual perspective.
DanHuh, that's an interesting point and again that connection piece, getting this perspective from Pastor Young, who many listeners already feel they know.
SheilaExactly. If his faith-informed viewpoint already resonates with you through the podcast or meditations, this could be a really solid resource.
DanAnd we should mention he's got a lot of experience here right.
SheilaOh yeah, 30 plus years.
DanWow, that's significant.
SheilaIt really is. Working with individuals, working with couples. Across that time it suggests a pretty deep well of understanding.
DanYou'd think so, understanding the problems people face and how faith can actually, you know, help in finding solutions. Precisely, does it list any particular areas he specializes in?
SheilaIt does highlight a few Things like resolving marital conflict.
DanOkay, important stuff.
SheilaVery Also relapse prevention strategies for substance abuse and helping people develop like success planning strategies for their lives, setting goals and figuring out how to reach them.
DanThose are all really practical, but also deeply personal areas.
SheilaAbsolutely, and areas where you know that faith-based approach might offer unique insights or maybe different tools than purely secular counseling.
DanOkay, so let's say someone's listening now and thinking this sounds like it might be helpful. How does it actually work?
SheilaThe logistics it seems pretty accessible. The sessions are 30 minutes long.
DanHalf an hour yeah.
SheilaAnd you can do them either by phone or video call, whatever works best.
DanThat's convenient and scheduling. When are these available?
SheilaMonday through Saturday between 10 am and 6 pm, so a good window of availability there.
DanDefinitely covers most people's schedules. You'd think yeah, and obviously confidentiality is key with this kind of thing?
SheilaOh, completely. The source is very clear. All sessions are private and confidential.
DanGood, that creates the necessary, you know, safe space.
SheilaExactly, trust is paramount.
DanAnd is there a limit? Like do you sign up for a certain number?
SheilaNo, it seems flexible. It says you can schedule as many sessions as you need.
DanAh, okay, so it's tailored to your own goals and your own pace.
SheilaThat's the idea. No set number.
Cost and Scripture Foundation
Danyou have to commit to All right, let's touch on the practical side again, the cost involved.
SheilaRight. Each 30-minute session is $40.
Dan$40. And there's also a bundle option mentioned. You can get three sessions for $100.
SheilaSo a bit of a discount if you know you'll want at least three. Seems that way, yeah.
DanYou know the source material also brought up a specific scripture verse related to this whole idea.
SheilaThat's right. It was about troubles, wasn't it? Many of the troubles of those that live for God.
DanBut that God will deliver him out of all our troubles. I remember reading that.
SheilaYeah, that's the one. It sort of acknowledges that hardship is part of the journey, right.
DanMm-hmm, but it also points towards hope and deliverance, and seeking support like this counseling fits right into that, I suppose.
SheilaIt really does. It frames seeking help within that faith context as a positive step.
Benefits and Final Thoughts
DanSo really, for you listening, especially if you're already engaged with Pastor Young's work through the podcast, this deep dive just kind of lays out another avenue for support.
SheilaYeah, it's leveraging that existing trust and connection for potentially more personalized guidance on the things you're navigating.
DanIt's definitely worth considering how, you know, intentionally bringing faith principles into how you handle challenges could make a difference.
SheilaIt might offer a perspective or a strength you wouldn't find elsewhere.
DanAbsolutely. If you want to explore this further or look into scheduling, check out the description box below this deep dive. We put the links there.
SheilaEverything you need to get started is right there.
DanAnd maybe just one final thought to leave you with how might actively applying your spiritual understanding to the difficulties you face actually maybe unlock unexpected resilience or clarity in your life?
