Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Renew Your Mind Day 10 | New Standard of Security
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Anxiety feeds on the lie that security comes from what we can hold, hide, or hoard. We open Matthew 6:31–33 and face that lie head-on, contrasting the world’s scarcity script with Jesus’ promise that the Father knows our needs and adds what matters when we seek the Kingdom first. Pastor Robert invites us to reimagine provision as the overflow of alignment rather than the prize of accumulation, turning daily decisions about money, work, and status into acts of trust.
Across this short but focused teaching, we unpack how a scarcity mindset quietly trains our habits and language, replacing peace with pressure. You’ll hear practical ways to “seek first” in the real world: building a values-based budget, defining “enough,” choosing integrity over appearances in career moves, and practicing generosity that forms the heart. We also walk through reflection prompts that surface the fear behind our worries—asking whether our concerns are rooted in doubt about God’s care—and we close with a shared affirmation to anchor your week.
If you’re tired of living on the edge of the next bill, the next raise, or the next fear, this message offers a different economy: the currency of trust. Listen to reset your priorities around God’s reign, reclaim calm from anxiety, and step into wise, faithful stewardship. If the teaching helps you breathe a little easier, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review to help others find it.

Scripture And Core Teaching
Pastor Robert YoungToday's scripture is coming from the book of Matthew, chapter six, verse thirty one through thirty three. Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? For the Gentile seek after all these things, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. The world's standard for security is accumulation and hoarding of resources. It relies on the belief that resources are scarce, so we must grab what we can. This leads to a lifestyle of anxiety and striving. The kingdom standard is provision through alignment. Jesus teaches that when you prioritize God's rule and way of doing things, the king takes personal responsibility for your needs. We trade the currency of worry for the currency of trust. Our questions for reflection. Look at your current worries. Are they rooted in a fear that God what would it look like to seek first the kingdom in your finances or career this week? Repeat this affirmation with me now. I refuse to live in scarcity and anxiety. I prioritize God's will, knowing that my Father knows what I need even before I ask.
