Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Ever feel like your spiritual life is a treadmill you can’t step off? We take a close look at Ephesians 2:8–9 and the simple, liberating claim that salvation is a gift—grace received through faith, not wages earned by our works. That shift challenges a culture obsessed with performance and achievement, and it answers a quiet fear many carry: Have I done enough?
We unpack the difference between the world’s fairness equation and God’s generosity. Where the world says prove yourself, grace says trust what Christ has finished. That doesn’t make good deeds optional; it changes their purpose. Acts of service and mercy become a response to love, not a payment for it. With that foundation, anxiety begins to ease, humility grows, and the need to boast fades. You can show up fully, not to earn acceptance, but because you already have it.
We also offer a simple, repeatable affirmation and prayer to anchor your day: gratitude for unearned love, and a request for strength to extend that same mercy to others. If you’ve been measuring your worth by effort, this short message invites you to rest in what God has done and let that rest shape what you do. Listen, let the truth sink in, and consider sharing it with someone who’s weary from striving.
If this resonated, subscribe, share with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review to help others find these hope-filled messages.

Ephesians On Grace Explained
Pastor Robert YoungIs coming from the book of Ephesians, chapter two, verses eight through nine. For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. The world's standard of justice, fairness, and even mercy is based on effort. The world believes that you must earn your way into heaven. This way of thinking always leaves you anxious and fearful, wondering if you have ever done enough. God's standard of grace is based on the finished work of Jesus Christ and is available to all who believe in Him. Our good deeds, our mercy that we show to others, are external expressions of God's internal work in our hearts. Repeat this affirmation throughout your day today. Thank you, Lord, that I don't have to earn your love and mercy. I receive your strength to give others that same mercy and grace that has been given to me through your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
