Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Renew Your Mind Day 15 | Worship is Your Identity
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Start with the life-changing claim of 1 Peter 2:9: you are chosen, royal, holy, and set apart to declare the One who called you out of darkness into marvelous light. That identity reshapes everything. We walk through confession, praise, and practical reflection so worship moves from a Sunday activity to a daily way of being—a steady response to God’s love that fills your work, your words, and your relationships with light.
We begin by getting honest with God. Using David’s prayer in Psalm 51, we make space for mercy that restores clarity and softens the heart. Then we lift our voices with Psalm 100, learning to bring joyful songs into ordinary moments, not as a performance but as a practice of truth: God made us, we belong to Him, and His steadfast love endures. As Pastor Robert unpacks the meaning of “a peculiar people,” he shows how holy distinction looks like courage in hard places, kindness in conflict, and a refusal to mirror the darkness we once called home.
You’ll pause for a focused, three-minute reflection—How will I show God’s goodness this week?—and you’ll carry an anchoring affirmation into the days ahead: “Worship is my natural response to God’s love.” This is a simple, sturdy rhythm for real life: confess to align, praise to reframe, act to witness. Listen to the meditation throughout the week, let the words saturate your soul, and watch your identity in Christ lead your habits toward light. If this encourages you, subscribe, share with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help others find the 30-day Renew Your Mind Challenge.

Welcome And Who This Is For
Pastor Robert YoungWelcome to the 30-day Renew Your Mind Challenge, day 15. I am your host and spiritual guide, Robert Young. If you're new to the podcast, or if you're not in 64 of all of the stages of meditation that we practice, if you're not filled with the Holy Spirit, then this process will not apply to you. In fact, our whole podcast only applies to those who have repented, confessed, and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you haven't done this, then reach out to me with the link in the description box below. I can help you with the process of becoming a believer in Jesus Christ, and you too can experience the joy of living for Christ. If you suffer from severe anxiety, depression, or trauma, psychotic episodes, or if you are in active addiction, then consult your physician before beginning this or any meditation practice. Our scripture for today is coming from 1 Peter chapter 2, verse 9, where it says, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of him who have called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Before we begin to examine 1 Peter chapter 2, verse 9, according to the scriptures, God requires us to be completely involved and free from wrongful acts in mind, body, and spirit. Confession prepares the heart for being in the presence of Almighty God. Let's repeat the prayer that King David prayed in Psalms chapter 51, verses 1 through 4. It says, Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness, according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Let's enter into worship of our Heavenly Father by repeating Psalms 100, verse 1 through 3, where it says, Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before Him with joyful songs. Let's take a moment to lift up our voice in praise and thanksgiving to our God who is worthy of all honor and glory and praise. Again, where it says, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and holy nation, a peculiar people, that you should show forth the praises of Him who have called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. This passage and many more like it tells us that we as believers were set apart from other peoples by God to praise Him and tell of His greatness. Many scriptures throughout the Bible tell us to worship, praise, and sing joyfully about God's many acts of kindness and love toward humanity. Imagine you were created for Him. You were formed to reflect His goodness. Worship is not something we do, it is who we are. Let's take three minutes to reflect on the following question. One, how will I show God's goodness this week? Repeat this affirmation now and for the next six days. Worship is my natural response to God's love. Again, worship is my natural response to God's love. Our assignment. Listen to this meditation daily until it saturates your soul and follow up with the daily devotions about this subject throughout this week. Our closing prayer. Thank you for forming me to know you, to love you, and to reflect your goodness. Lord, teach me to live as one who belongs to you. Let my life in every moment, in every breath, bring you honor. For Christ's sake. Amen.
