Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

How To Recognize Truth When Everything Feels Urgent | Meditation on Discernment
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When every feed screams for your attention, how do you know what to trust? We open Scripture to Matthew 24:4—“Take heed that no man deceive you”—and move through a grounded practice of confession, breath, and worship that quiets the noise and restores focus. From there, we unpack what discernment really means: not living scared, but living steady, alert, and anchored in God’s truth when rumors rise and hot takes multiply.
We talk candidly about the pull of internet prophets, doom cycles, and spiritual FOMO, and we offer clear, usable tests to filter what you hear. Does the message align with Scripture in context? Does it produce the fruit of the Spirit rather than fear and pride? Is there humble accountability, or just hype? These simple gates help you recognize truth, spot counterfeits, and avoid the swirl of half-claims that drain your peace. Along the way, we return to the basics—confession that clears the fog, breathwork that settles the body, and worship that lifts your gaze—so your mind is ready to listen and your heart stays soft.
You’ll leave with a reflective question to take into the week—where do you need clearer spiritual discernment?—and a life-giving affirmation: God gives me clarity and I walk in His truth. If you’re hungry for a calm, practical way to engage Scripture, resist deception, and build a resilient faith in a world of misinformation, this guided meditation offers a path that is peaceful, biblical, and doable.
If this helped you find clarity, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs a steady word, and leave a review so others can discover it too.

Welcome And Purpose Of Meditation
Pastor Robert YoungWelcome to this week's Guided Christian Meditation. Here, we put aside all distractions to enter into God's presence and to hear from God better and to allow the Holy Spirit to make us more like Christ. I'm your host, Pastor Robert Young, and thank you for allowing me to be your guide on this journey. If you're new to the podcast or if you're not a believer, then I'd like to suggest that you check out episode 164 that talks about the who, what, and the why of all of the stages of meditation that we practice. If you're not filled with the Holy Spirit, then this process will not apply to you. In fact, our whole podcast only applies to those who have repented, confessed, and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you haven't done this, then reach out to me with the link in the description box below. I can help you with the process of becoming a believer in Christ Jesus and you too can experience the joy of living for God. If you suffer from severe anxiety, depression, or trauma, psychotic episodes, or if you're in active addiction, then please consult your physician before beginning this or any meditation practice. Our theme for this week is about discernment. Our scripture is from Matthew 24, verse 4, where it says, Take heed that no man deceive you. But first, according to the scriptures, God requires us to be completely involved and free from wrongful acts in mind, body, and spirit. Confession prepares the heart for being in the presence of Almighty God. Let's begin by repeating the prayer that King David prayed in Psalms 51, verses 1 through 4, where it says, Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness, according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions, wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Before we start to reflect on Matthew 24, verse 4, let's prepare our mind by closing our eyes and taking a deep breath as we invite the presence of God to fill us. First, take a deep breath in for a count of seven, hold the breath for a count of four, and slowly release for a count of seven. Repeat the exercise. Now, let's prepare our bodies by releasing any tension with muscle relaxation exercises. We will simply tense each muscle group for three seconds and then release the muscle. And as we always say, don't hold your breath for this portion of the meditation. Let's start with the calf muscles. Lightly tense the calf muscles for a count of three. Now release. Moving upward to the hamstrings, quads, and glutes, lightly tense for three seconds. Now release. Moving upward to the abdominals, chest, and back area. Lightly tense for three seconds. Now release. Finally, moving to the arms and shoulders. Lightly tense these muscle groups for three seconds. Now release. Now we can begin to enter into worship by repeating Psalms verse one through three, where it says, Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him with joyful songs. Let's take a moment to lift up our voice in praise and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father, who is worthy of all honor and glory, by repeating Psalms chapter 8, verse 9, which says, Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. Now that we've prepared our mind, our bodies, and our spirit, let's begin to examine and reflect on Matthew chapter 24, verse 4, where it says, Take heed that no man deceive you. In this chapter and verse, Jesus is telling the disciples about what's going to happen in the last days. In verse 4, Jesus is telling them not to be tricked by all of the false signs and misinformation that will be prevalent during that time. He goes on to tell of wars, famines, and all kinds of trouble, but not to be afraid. This scene that Jesus is painting is not too different from what we are seeing today. With all the information available at our fingertips, it can be easy to fall to some of the internet prophets and social media preachers of doom and fear. Jesus warned that deception would increase as the world moves toward the end of the age. Discernment isn't about fear, it's about clarity. It's the spiritual ability to recognize what is true, what is false, and what is simply noise. In a world filled with opinions, prophecies, and online voices, discernment becomes a shield that protects your heart and anchors your mind in God's truth. Let's take two minutes to reflect on the following question. Where in my life do I feel the need for clearer spiritual discernment? God gives me clarity and I walk in his truth. Again, God gives me clarity and I walk in his truth. Along with the daily devotions about this subject, and watch as God continues to transform your thinking as well as your inner man. Amen.
