Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Guarding Your Heart & Mind Series: God Strengthens Us When Our Strength Fails | Thursday Devotional
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When you’re exhausted, it’s easy to assume you’re failing spiritually. We slow down and let Isaiah 40:29 correct that lie: God gives power to the faint, and he increases strength for those who have no might. That promise is not aimed at the “strongest” person in the room. It’s for the person who feels done, stretched thin, and quietly afraid they cannot keep going.
We talk about why God never asked us to live the Christian life in our own strength, and why he doesn’t rebuke our weakness when we reach our limit. Instead, he meets us with compassion and real help. We also challenge the false idea that peace is protected by pushing through exhaustion. Lasting peace comes when we tell the truth about our limits and receive strength we can’t manufacture, the kind that comes by God’s Spirit.
You’ll be guided through a short reflection question to help you name exactly where you feel faint, weary, or out of strength right now. Then we repeat a simple affirmation you can carry into your day: “God strengthens me when I have no strength of my own. I receive his power today.” We close with a direct, honest prayer asking God to lift us where we are weary and empower us to walk in peace.
If you’re looking for Christian encouragement, biblical hope, and a grounding moment of prayer for burnout and fatigue, press play. Subscribe, share this with someone who’s running on empty, and leave a review so more weary hearts can find it.

Isaiah 40:29 Scripture Reading
Pastor Robert YoungToday's scripture is coming from the book of Isaiah, chapter 40, verse 29, where it says, He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might. He increases strength. God never expected us to live the Christian life in our own strength. He knows we grow weary. He knows our humanity has limits. He knows we reach moments where we simply cannot keep going. And instead of rebuking our weaknesses, he meets us where we are. Isaiah doesn't say God helps the strong become stronger. He says God gives power to the faint and increases our strength in those who have no might. This means our weakness is not a barrier to God. It is an invitation for his power. We don't protect our peace by pushing through exhaustion. We protect our peace by admitting our limits and receiving the supernatural strength God freely gives. Where our humanity ends, his strength begins. Let's take three minutes to reflect on the following question. Where do you feel faint, weary, or out of strength, and need God to empower you? Repeat this affirmation now and throughout your day. God strengthens me when I have no strength on my own. I receive his power today. Let's repeat that. God strengthens me when I have no strength of my own. I receive his power today. Our closing prayer. Father, I come to you with my weakness. I confess that I cannot carry everything on my own. Father, increase my strength where I have none. Lift me where I am weary. Empower me with your spirit so I can walk in your peace. I receive your strength today. For Christ's sake. Amen.
